I'd be of no use to these people, as a measly artist Wink But I'm absolutely keeping an eye on this.

I thought SOS in morse was ...---...?

Edit: Yeah, definitely not meant as SOS. The only thing I can think of VVV being is Veni Vidi Vici, but I haven't read V For Vendetta recently, so who knows what it refers to? Got to mean something, otherwise it wouldn't be there.

Email from Tobin Schroeder

I emailed Tobin asking for some information that might help me decide between a job with the Engineers and R&D. I included a simple encoded message "you can trust me" into my outgoing email (through incorrect capitalization). I've attached her reply, I don't see anything enlightening in the reply, but I thought I might be missing something.

------------------------------------------------------------------

Mr. (last name),

I'm afraid I can't provide very many insights into R&D, beyond that
the people working there are all pleasant, if somewhat quiet.
Precision is the key in that department, but the same is easily true
of engineering.

The pay itself is above average, what I might call secure, but the
rewards are even greater in the ability to be at the forefront of
thought and eventual culture. The goal at U-Media is to open up new
pathways in human evolution and experience -- to broaden not only
minds, but also lives. As engineers, we facilitate that as never
before.

We are both search engine and therapist all in one. A basic
understanding of human psychology is helpful, I find, but not absolute
necessity. An ability to communicate, and empathy, are a must.

Now I don't know you personally, or your work habits, so I can't say
which environment you'd prefer, but I think it would be hard to go
wrong with engineering. If U-Media is the future, and we in
engineering certainly are U-Media, then there's your answer. While one
might find that their fellow employees can be a bit distant at times
(admittedly supervisors more than most), everyone has the company's
best interest at heart.

I hope I've answered your questions fully, or at least to the best of
my abilities, and that it might help you to make up your mind about
U-Media.

Just don't go for my job, and I'll gladly wish you luck.

Sincerely,
Tobin Schroeder

Assessment Required

The latest from Rick Mohnberg on my employment application with U-Media:

Rick MohnBerg wrote:
Dr xnbomb,

Thank you for your swift reply and my apologies for any indiscretion towards your title on my behalf. Your application will be duly considered, however I must ask what your situation is regarding assessment. It is U-Media policy that no candidate be employed without being assessed in the previous six months. We are not at liberty to suggest assessment centres in your area, however little research should be needed to find one. I will then need you to roughly translate your scores onto our scale (one to eight where eight is highest and five is average) and pass those on to me. I apologise for the bureaucracy, it saves us all a lot of headaches further down the line.
Once I receive these scores, I will validate your file and you will hear from us after the holiday season.

With thanks,

Rick Mohnburg

I had given him a gentle nudge to address me as Dr. I would probably never do that under regular circumstances, but fun is fun. Also, I had forgotten they wanted those assessment scores on a scale of 1-8 for the categories they specified (as the application form was down in the security audit, and I had forgotten). So, now I can either give up the ghost on working for U-Media, or pretend that I have been assessed (despite not really knowing what they mean by that) and make up some scores. I think maybe I'll do a little self-assessment Very Happy .

Hello, I was wondering about a job at UMedia, I was in the Navy's R&D division for 4 years and have a PhD in physics and am currently working on a PhD in Mathematics. Any room for me there?
