Wow - Isn't it a bit odd that a cut'n'paste bio can remain up on an 'unauthorised' page, or that it even exists at all? Where does that place all the 'friends of Th3spian?' - ALL just a mixture of 'plants' and fellow ARG-ers? Which friend WOULDN'T comment on a fake bio?

Nah, do you use Myspace? People send friend requests all the time based on location, occupation, etc. This guy says he's an actor in NYC... he'll get friend requests all day long... also, yes, a lot of those friends are ARG folks (I recognize a few).

More on netthreats

I caught the following on the netthreats site-

Quote:
There are sequences of numbers throughout the videos. We've isolated and examined them but couldn't do much with it. One of our older associates suggested they were reminiscent of the one-time pads used in early message encryption and still favored by so-called "Number Stations." If that's the case, good luck trying to decode them without the pad.

If you search wikipedia for "numbers station" the entry says that these are shortwave radio stations that read out letters or numbers and are generally thought to be a way of sending messages to spies. The voices reading these numbers are, and I quote, "mechanically generated...usually female, but sometimes male or those of children." Sounds like a pretty obvious reference to me, which furthers my belief that the netthreats site isn't "real."

So, I guess that leaves the question of whether these numbers can be decoded as-is, or if there's a pad? The pad of which they speak is called a "one-time pad." I'm not sure I understand it well enough to explain it, so I'll link the wikipedia article. The upshot is that it seems to be a rotation sort of code, but I have no idea what to do from there.

The new video title is "astutebriefclue" - unfortunately I'm not astute enough to find the brief clue. Reversing audio is just an atmospheric "cityscape" loop, can't make out any words other than "Merry Christmas". Frame by frame of the sudden ending doesn't really turn anything up either.

might not mean anything at all, but an anagram of 'astutebriefclue' is 'beautiful secret'

edit: again none of this probably means anything. i tried also anagramming 'thyanatomic' which is one of the screennames on the third video...and i got 'chat aim tony'.

I just realized in reviewing the old posts, the Malaysian was translated: During the girl's monologue it says "Beautiful, Good Secret"

i decided to keep up with the anagrams then...
and...there's LOTS of anagram possibilites for 'bristelgoodman': 'lasting boredom', 'streaming blood', 'mastodon gerbil'(and other equally humorous ones)...none of them seem terribly relevant though.

if it really is a one-time pad then you need the pad to decode the msg - cannot be cracked if randomly produced and used but once. might as well be trying to guess the msg just knowing how many characters there are; but since there are a few words with the same number of letters Smile, that is gonna be pretty hard.

The question, then, is where we might find a pad.

For what it's worth, one of the vids on the bristolgoodman site is now working. I assume it's the "first victim vid" I was so curious about--- it has the SoHo conversation and all of that. It's left me with a number of questions.

- who are rhino and ironwheat? As far as I can tell, they are both male, suggesting that their conversation is related to, but is not, the one that the girl is having with....whoever. I really wish those other videos were working!

- Why is she saying goodbye? It doesn't seem like a positive thing, like she's leaving when she doesn't want to. Where is she going?

- And who is she talking to? Indications are that it's the creepy guy ("let me see your hands") but how can he be talking to her and there to kill her at the same time?

Curiouser and curiouser!

Edited to avoid even more comments. NetThreats has a myspace! Nothing about BG and the name is Terry (the same name from the WHOIS). Hasn't logged in since 12/11, mentions "concerns about safety on youtube." Is NetThreats actually legit?

While on myspace I saw that Eddie says he's from Ames, Iowa. I thought Eddie was supposed to be in New York?[/b]

^ i think it more likely that it ain't a one-time pad. would be curious to use an uncrackable code to advance a plot line.

Site reverted?

It looks like the site has changed again. No video is pulling up but this looks more like the original site... including there is only one video up there (11-20-2006).

Although, most of the old pages are still there if you navigate to them directly.

What's up with this? Another reset? I'm about to walk...

NetThreats

Hearing that the BG site had changed led me to go check out NetThreats, which had a fairly substantial update to its BG blog. I'll quote what I think are the important parts.

Quote:
There have been some events on BristelGoodman.com that again prompt me to point out that, if this is an ARG, it's an awfully clumsy one.

This leads me to believe that much as I wanted to believe otherwise, the site is OOG.

Quote:
We used interpolative software to generate any partial characters in the ASL (American Sign Language) seen in the initial BG video. It spells out: Bristel Goodman. Nothing new there. We are 90% certain that the Greek characters seen in BG video 2 relate to numbers, not words: 35. 72, 67. 96, 13. 84, 15. (one-time pad?)

Hmmmmmmmm.

whoa....an actual myspace blog post from rumi909:

feeling sick ...
Current mood: lethargic
Category: Life

Woke up at 4:30 am this morning, had to get to work at 6 am. It was cold and rainy…I think there's a hole in my boots, actually…there were probably several of them, since my socks got wet…I fell sick. So I left early… but felt really bad about it. At home now… feeling weak. Mild temperature. Cold inside. Sore throat. Sleepy…

(Couple of hours later).
Ugh….laying in bed…. Not feeling much better.
Hmm….this is the part when someone who cares about me brings me some chicken soup… and tucks me into bed…Waiting….still waiting… Oh well. I should stop feeling sorry for myself. I just wish I was stronger.

seems kinda....bland...to me.

Hey guys. I'm kinda new to this whole thing. I stumbled upon the videos on Google Video and after some searches I ended up here. I thought the video itself was a interesting little story and I want to see it through.

Any mind another helping hand to solve this mystery? I'll do what I can.

Site updated
Bristelgoodman.com website is updated with a countdown

Greetings!

I noticed today that www.bristelgoodman.com was updated again. Apparently with some sort of countdown. In the script you can find:
Quote:

//ENTER BELOW THE DATE YOU WISH TO COUNTDOWN TO
later = new Date("January 23 2007 19:30:01");

So apparently we will find out what is going on January 23. I don't mean to sound childish and whiney, but I am excited and at the same time disgusted. This doesn't appear to be going anywhere very fast.

Ha, i just got two messages from some of our Bristelgoodman friends on myspace. Frankly, I forgot that I had sent a friend request way back when this thing started.

Anyhow, they're sort of cocky, which was rather amusing, considering I didn't know who they were at first...but here they are for your viewing pleasure.

I should know better
Current mood: relieved

Hi. Again. I'm back. Feeling much better. I went to get some groceries today. And had a rather horrible experience. Well. I think horrible is too big a word for it. Just unpleasant. Made me feel really stupid. I was walking....minding my own…when suddenly this guy with this big blue file approached me- he stretched out his hand so I took it and gave the firmest handshake I could. (I've been working on my handshakes) J
He then started telling me about this organization, and how they were helping underdeveloped areas, and about these children who couldn't go to school or have medicine because they couldn't afford to, and all this time, he held on to my hand. I was listening to what he had to say, but at the same time, I didn't like that he was gripping my hand so hard, and I tried to take it away, but he wouldn't let me. I said that while I was sympathetic to the cause, it was just something that I needed to think about, do some research on….and that I simply didn't have the money…. I mean, I have NO MONEY. I can hardly pay my rent. He kept on talking….and still he was holding on to my hand.. He said a bunch of other stuff that made me feel uncomfortable, but for some reason, I couldn't just pull away and leave. I just stood rooted there and allowed him to continue talking to me about this donation/sponsoring. And here's where I did something completely stupid. He asked me for my credit card number to fill into this form saying that I was going to make a donation. I told him I wasn't old enough to have one. And he said a check card was fine too…and I just didn't know what to say. In my head, I was saying no no no I couldn't….but then what came out of my mouth was completely different. I just simply couldn't say no. I was terrified…..I gave my card to him.. He took it down…And then he let me go….I RAN home….I called my bank and told them I had lost my card…for them to not allow any transactions since last night….and they had that sort of protection….so it turned out to be fine….but I just thought how stupid I was. It could have been a scam for all I know. Yeah. I have to be more assertive I guess.
