UPDATE: New live Journal entry 14 July

4:45 pm I stole some sandals today. Rahne and I were walking down Ninth Street and I saw them on a rack on the sidewalk in front of a store; I just plucked them up and walked on without breaking stride or the thread of conversation. Rahne didn't even notice that I'd picked them up until a few blocks later. She did not approve. I've been wearing shoes for as long as I can remember, but these sandals feel strangely familiar. (Swoosh swoosh, swoosh baby.) I gave the shoes to a barefoot guy in the alley; I didn't want to carry the extra weight. These sandals won't be much good once winter falls -- I don't ever want to be that guy who wears sandals in the snow -- but I'll just pinch some shoes or something when it comes to that.

Rahne and I are heading out soon. I've been telling her bedtime stories to help her fall asleep, and my thoughts have been turning to the story behind the stories, and pondering the gradual evolution of nursery rhymes and children's games. One meme in particular haunts me, so I'm off to pick up its trail.

Rahne seemed both excited and nervous when I told her where I wanted to go next. I think, perhaps, she's been that way before.
