another part would be

One common companion to a http web site is a ftp:// counterpart.

Most servers have one and we will probably got one or acces it at some point.

ftP://www.sectorseven.org with properL/P and port of course.

another thing to not is the scrolling text that "logging" activity from connecting "people" hold some clues too. the dod/ part clearly must be Department of Defence. With the pentagon in the trailer w know sector seven isnt the only agency involved. I was hoping the maybe find a folder of logs.... but nope

Anagrams anyone?

This was at the top of a page titled simply "i". It was a link at the bottom of the "Missed The Ground" page.

Think it's an anagram?

P.S. this could also be use on the one that still has some people confused at the site:

the starting page is here: Miss The Ground

Is this the starting point of the whole thing? What is it exactly?

This looks interesting. Except that I have no clue what you all are talking about!!!

Quote:
It's not stegged,

In the imbedded video, the traceroute IP of where the vid is coming from is 12.22.112.7675
Last time I checked, that's not a valid IP.

2.22.112.7675 is interesting...

backwards its
211.22.21
and that gets you to test page for Apache HTTP server ...interesting..

can they decompile the flash of the login and retrieve the password that way or is that not allowed?

server response. doesn't have an index.html file so comes up as forbidden to prevent hackers :p

How do you DO all these things????!!!!! What does "stegged" mean? Is there a website or something to explain how to "decompile a flash" or determine what is or is not a "valid IP address"? And why is an "Apache HTTP server" interesting? They are everywhere! What in the world is a "traceroute IP"??? Or a "index.html" file.

I've played a couple ARGs now, or at least am playing, but I've never seen this kind of stuff. It sounds like Rocket Surgery (and yes that is intentional)!!!

All i know

im not playing any game, I am simply breaking apart the site to find any extra content or find holes to new content. There are a few things...not quite right..and yes alot of our theories are wild and no chance in hell to be right. But of course the site was found by someone who took the time to freeze frame the trailer and find the hidden message and password. whats the harm of looking around on this site for hidden things?

No harm at all as far as I am concerned, I just want to know how to do it!!! How does one find "hidden things" on a website? I assume that's what all the jargon in my previous post is referring to but I don't understand a word of it!

well..

well im sorry but if you have to ask how, you cant be shown in a few simpel steps. check urls for dir list holes or to take a picture apart in photoshop, or viewing source files for dirs and everything else we do is just basic web design / descontruction training. Can't really teach you that.

We are loooking for things that most people might miss and for the possibility of new content. I could care less about playing any game

Heheheh, welcome to the wonderful world of ARGs, which sooner or later prompt you to develop a higher level of internet literacy than you ever figured you'd need.

A few brief explanations (knowing how to use traceroute tools is certainly useful, as is knowing what an Apache server is, or how to find out if something is a valid IP address, but you probably won't need to know that to solve puzzles or follow an ARG story, so I'll stick with things you might need to know and you can research the others yourself (the ability to Google effectively probably being the #1 most important skill for actively participating in puzzle solving or other types of ARG exploration Wink):

Index.html: When you create a website, each page on the website has a name, like any other file.

Let's say I have a site called "www.killermongolianspamhordes.com" and there's a page on there for my contact info. If you wanted to go directly to that page, the url would be www.killermongolianspamhordes.com/contact.html." The name of that page, as a file, is contact.html, and the name of the website is where it's located.

The "index.html" page is a little unusual, since it's usually the "home" page for a site or directory. So, when you go to www.killermongolianspamhordes.com, usually what you're actually seeing is www.killermongolianspamhordes.com/index.html.

Stegged/Steganography: You may have heard of cryptography, in which you have a message that everyone can tell is there, but only people who know the method by which it was encoded can read it. Steganography refers to hiding a message in such a way that (hopefully) only the intended recipient can even tell there's a message there at all.

A common form of steganography is hiding text or even other images inside images. When they're opened with a text editor, such as Wordpad, you can see the message.

Check Unfiction's Online Resource Page for tools for both stegging and destegging.

Decompiling Flash: I'm assuming you know what Flash is -- it's a program that lets you make movies or interactive content for websites. (See here for examples of Flash-based websites.) With certain programs, you can download Flash movies (they have the file extension *.swf) and "decompile" them, which basically means breaking them down to their component parts: images, sound files, and scripts. Often, if a Flash site requires you to enter information (see the bottom of the page here, for example), you can find out what it is by examining the scripts. But in order to see them, you first must decompile the Flash movie.

Anyway, hope that helps a little. Smile

before going anywhere with this 'missed the ground' site, can you please inform us how you came to that website?

If it's not related to Sector Seven, then by all means feel free to post a new thread in the News & Rumours forum... but let's keep this thread on topic. Wink

ETA: bah! googling misstheground brought up this unfiction thread already discussing it from Aug/Oct 06. Searched UF, and in my haste, I mistook a 'can't make another search so soon' message for a 'not found' message.

ETA2: alsray posted it below. I am slow.
