we are all working hard on this so some of us are entitled to a little reward...well not little but you get what i mean heh.

I personally just hope there are little gifts waiting for us at those selected locations cause i wont be a happy bunny if i travel all the way to london for nothing ^_^

IMHO, coming into this with an expectation of getting something for nothing is the wrong way to do it. If you choose to go to London, that is your choice, but if you are all ready to be very upset or disappointed if you get to London & you don't leave with some new free toy or gift, you may want to reconsider your travelling plans.

None of us are entitled to anything. If we happen to win, great! But if the only reason you are getting involved is for the chance at something for nothing, you will not have the same level of experience as others who do it for the love of the mystery, or the love of the game./rant

I have to agree there. The thrill is in the chase, the puzzle, the little orgasm that occurs when it clicks and the solve hits you in the gut.

Dangling a carrot can make some people get secretive and competative and nasty. Especially when the chances of actually winning something is pretty slim.

So don't go to these "events" expecting to get something for nothing.

Events are the opportunity to interact, to participate *live*, to be part of something big. If you do win something, that is just the sprinkles on the iced cake you got just for being there.

And I'm pretty excited that they are doing this around the globe (and not just CES). Las Vegas is going to be the guinea pig for the followup events - but you never know with 42 - they may change things up as time goes by....especially since there are some places that are on the same day (can Loki really travel around that much?????). I remember Jane & Kiyash had to travel to various Graveyards all over the US but they had a week between each place.

Yeah sorry, i guess i worded that rather badly.

I already know there isnt going to be a brand new vista-integrated laptop or anything, i just mean i'll be disapointed if nothing new is figured out through the trip.

I have no problem with spending as much money as is needed to get there and check it out cause i'm rather curious as to what awaits and if there is nothing, then hey i get a weekend to London, i cant complain ^_^

Two 16 yr olds on a trip to London what could be better Wink

Sorry for the previous post, didnt mean to sound spoilt or anything.

I am Soooooo going to the Toronto event! Oooo Yeah!!!!!
Finally, a live event in a nearby city of a game i'm actually playing! My dreams hath come trueth! (yayayyay!) Smile

Now we just need to figure out exact times. And search for more keys.

Soapbox is invite only, eh? Anyone want to invite me? Perhaps with more of us looking at Soapbox, we can find such videos. I seem to recall Loki saying that if we got stuck we could just "look for the tag vanishingpoint online". My first thought was Flickr, but maybe Soapbox would be a wiser place to search?

Something else: Now that we know a bit more, it appears to me that http://vanishingpointgame.com/biography/ was written by Loki herself. That would mean that "A certain large corporation" would be Microsoft. Kewl.

Check out the wiki's video page. There are links to the original and a slightly more vendor-agnostic transcode of the original.

Edit: ...or are you looking for other videos that aren't the original...? I'm now not entirely clear what is being asked.

Whilst we wait for the next little clue ive taken to trying to solve more of the video.

Loki appears to be packing some sort of magicians outfit.
There are four pocket watches put into a box with what looks like a red screwdriver.
Two paintings are on the wall with what look like numbers on them.
There is the notebook with the math scribbles and stuff on.
A book containing a family tree.

Might aswell use my time creatively so I'm going to try and figure out each of these little quirks that pop out of the movie.

If anyone else has already got any answers on them then please let me know kay?

Hello everybody. I've been following the topic here and at neowin with the name Accipitridae. One more thing to look for in the video that we noticed: At 00:34 seconds there is a funny pixelation corresponding almost perfectly to the word "timeless." If any of you know anything about video encoding, this might be worth looking into. We don't think it's simply a compression error. Thanks and keep us posted! This is going to take teamwork!

Yeah, if unfiction and Neowin are working together then that makes the situation alot easier on both sides.

And as for the video and the pixelation i dont think its an error either...it
just seems to well timed with what she is saying.

Does anyone have any idea how to make something out of it cause even
though i think it was purposeful i have no idea how something can be figured from a fuzzy video image.

I'm looking for other videos. It just struck me that in the video we have so far, Loki says "If they need help, they can always search for the Vanishing Point tag." As i understand it, Soapbox uses a tag system to find videos, and i think that for a Microsoft game, it is more likely for them to use their own video site instead of a competitor owned site. If some more of us get invited to Soapbox, we can more easily search for videos related to Vanishing Point.

But thanks for the wiki link!

Where is this line about less than 1000 people having seen vista. Is it from some part of Vanishing Point i missed, or from a vista advertisement, or what?

perhaps they are talking about the 1971 counter culture film "vanishing point"-- http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vanishing_Point

instead of a trip to space, maybe this will turn out to be a microsoft remake of "vanishing point" that will premiere on soapbox -- starring the winner (arg meets american idol) Laughing Laughing

Haha yeah that would be rather comical ^_^

I surely hope it has no link to the movie though, very bad ratings indeed.

A book containing a family tree.

This was already mentioned in this thread, but that book is The History of The Decline and Fall of the Roman Empire. The family tree is that of Theodosian Dynasty through the fourth and fifth centuries CE. The book cover that is shown previous to these pages is that of Herodotus' History. It is a completely different book; Herodotus' events and what Gibbon is talking about are centuries apart, so I'm not really sure what we're supposed to get out of this other than the fact that Loki is very well-read Mr. Green

It's difficult to finish that sentence. The usual quote is "there are more stars in the universe than grains of sand on all of Earth's beaches". Her quote is "Let's be more precise. That name will be repeated as many times as there are grains of sand on a beach." That is actually less precise, as we don't know which beach she has in mind. Heh.

Crazy Speculation time: We don't know the exact place where Loki is going to be meeting people (assuming that she will be meeting people at each of the different places listed), so perhaps this means that the location will be at a beach!

EDIT:
Here are some resources for those of you interested:
How many stars are there in the sky? (between 200 billion and 3 thousand million billion (a 3 with 16 zeroes behind it) stars, at current estimates)
How many grains of sand are there in all the world's beaches? (7.5 x 10^18 grains)

Arg....

The global countdowns are bugging me now....

I've been trying to hunt down any microsoft events happening in the corosponding cities at the countdown times but I cant find them.

This means that the other venues dont follow the same link as the vegas one cause we know there is something going on there.

Could just be my lack of searching skills but if we can link some event to each of these cities then it will make a meeting place easier for each of them.

Also look for Acer & AMD events - I think this has more than one company behind it
