[Update] PerplexCity.com News Letter, 22nd December.

Quote:
*** HO HO HO, MERRY PERPLEXMAS ***

Us Mind Candies are about to head off for a sorely-needed Christmas break, and
so it falls to me to wish you all a very merry Christmas, Hannukah, "Winterval",
or Restitution Of The Cube, depending!

2006 has been a fantastic year for us here at Mind Candy. We've run some crazy
events, released tons of new cards, made a boardgame, and much more besides.
Our plans for 2007 are even more ambitious, so watch this space for more news
on those in the new year. But we'd be remiss not to thank everyone who's helped
us achieve so much this year - our distributors, retailers, partners,
suppliers, and of course, our fantastic players, who make Perplex City such a
vibrant and exciting game. We love you guys!

Have a wonderful week, whatever you're up to, and a very happy New Year - we'll
see you on the flip side! May 2007 bring enhanced levels of awesomeness to
all...

*** CHRISTMAS GOODIES FROM MIND CANDY! ***

We're experimenting with making some new toys for you to play with here at
Mind Candy HQ, and for your enjoyment, we've made a Create-A-Puzzle widget
that allows you to make your own multiple choice puzzles and send them to your
friends. Check it out here:

http://beta.perplexcity.com/

Also, we're now broadcasting our thoughts to the world via our shiny, new Mind
Candy blog! We hope to add more features, like comments and trackbacks, in the
future. For now though, enjoy our Words On A Screen:

http://blogs.mindcandydesign.com/

*** SCREAM, IT'S MYRRH! ***

And as an extra pressie from us, here are some bonus Christmas puzzles. The
solutions are at the end in code - if you paste them into the box here:

http://www.rot13.com/

...then they'll be revealed in plain English! They really are the perfect way
to keep your family safely occupied after your festive dinner. Along with
copious amounts of sherry, of course.

= = = =

What are the longest words you can make out of the letters "MERRY CHRISTMAS?"

There are two 10-letter words, nine 9-letter words, and a whole 39 eight-letter
words to be found... using some Scrabble tiles might help.

= = = =

We?d just finished decorating our new Christmas tree when I noticed the
multicoloured lights wrapped around it formed a pattern. At the bottom was a
layer of 128 lights, then 64, then 32, continuing on up to the single light by
the star at the top. It looked stunning when we switched them on (that is,
until 1 of them blew and we spent the rest of the evening testing to find which
one).

Can you tell me how many lights were on the tree?

= = = =

I bought a wonderful (and perfectly conical) Xmas tree for the office the
other day, that was 2m high and 1.5m wide at the base. Unfortunately, it had
to be shipped in a cylindrical container, and shipping cost £2 per metre-cubed.
As I used the smallest container possible (without squashing my immaculate new
tree) how much did I end up paying just to ship air?

= = = =

Over the whole 12 days of Christmas (according to the rhyme) how many legs
would your total haul of gifts have?

= = = =

What are the longest two words you can find with no letters shared between
them? Combine the two word-lengths to get your score (our best is 20!)

= = = =

Can you make a word ladder from DASHER to DONNER and DANCER? A word ladder is
where you change one letter at a time to get from one word to another, making
other real words along the way, like:

MIND MINE DINE DANE CANE (A Candy cane, of course.)

And finally...

*** STORY UPDATE ***

While the communications lockdown continues, there has clearly been some
movement in the shadows of Perplex City. For a start, it looks like the
vitriolic Kate Brewster has been fired by The Sentinel. But more importantly,
'Combed Thunderclap' has continued to update the Library of Babel website with
some very direct clues regarding the Cube's location... well, as direct as
anything seen so far:

http://thelibraryofbabel.com

But how do the clues tie into the cards? Will Earth's Cube Hunters manage to
solve them? And can anyone dig up the Cube before the Third Power reach it...?
Only time will tell!

Merry Christmas, one and all, and happy hunting! (Once you've let your
Christmas dinner go down, at least.)

Mind Candy

= = = = =

PS: Extreme Puzzling results very very shortly after the new year. Really sorry
for the delay - they're just too awesome to choose between!

Just thought I'd post it Razz

If the Maids are "a-milking" then, presumably, they must be milking something. Tarim will make the rash assumption they are each milking a cow*. So that means a few extra legs…

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
An extra 160 legs. So 648+160=808 legs in total.

* AAfter all, it is a traditional Christmas song. Mind you, the picture of eight ladybird maids, each a-milking an aphid, is somewhat compelling.
