You could probably take the 2012 entry for February out as it's a leap year and doesn't match the February page we have.

Lots of possibilities there, though.

Also... The number of overlapping days, in chronological monthly order are 1-1-2-4-4 in case we need any more five digit numbers to toss around.

Sylvia,

I believe your calculations are a bit, wrong. The organization of days in a month are on a 28 year cycle. Take, January for example. The first day of the month progresses one day each year, except leap year in which it jumps two. As such we have

2005 - Sat :1
2006 - Sun :2
*2007 - Mon :3
2008 - Tue :4 Leap skips wed
2009 - Thu :1
2010 - Fri :2
2011 - Sat :3
2012 - Sun :4 Leap skips mon
2013 - Tue :1
2014 - Wed :2
2015 - Thu :3
2016 - Fri :4 Leap skips sat
2017 - Sun :1
*2018 - Mon :2
2019 - Tue :3
2020 - Wed :4 Leap skips thu
2021 - Fri :1
2022 - Sat :2
2023 - Sun :3
*2024 - Mon :4 Leap skips tue
2025 - Wed :1
2026 - Thu :2
2027 - Fri :3
2028 - Sat :4 Leap skips sun
*2029 - Mon :1
2030 - Tue :2
2031 - Wed :3
2032 - Thur :4 Leap skips fri
2033 - Sat :1 This is back to the original 28 years later

As such you were right about it being 6 years from 2001 to 2007, and 11 from 2007 to 2018, Then continueing on 2018 to 2024 is again 6 years. After that the next one is 2029 which is only 5 years away. This particular cycle works for every month, is just depends where in the cycle those months currently are. The real cycle of days is 6, 11, 6, 5, repeat. You'll notice that for your may you have 6, 6, but from 2007 to 2012 is only 5 years.

good observation reality757, i didn't check that deep, just skimmed the surface. I was just tying to see if the overlapping meant anything but probably what Rogi said above is all that's meant to be read in to it but then again I don't know.

Re: Talk with Elan

Wow! Adrenaline rush and fun to see live. We stayed for the second version (after they fixed the projection on the left side where it was a little fuzzy).

I spent some time tonight talking with Elan (from 42).

They are definitely monitoring what is posted on the boards (but we knew that). They had no control over who got the puzzle boxes nor the silver envelopes. That was all under MS control, not 42.

42 was responsible for all the puzzles. In fact, I have a picture of our puzzle masters.

EVERYTHING has a clue. The *only* mistake was the appearance of the gaffer in the doorway in the first video.

The building in the second video? That is the office of EDOC Laundry Cool

Speaking of the second video. The music is from a band "Concord". Their first album will be released this year and they will be playing at the special event (for over 21) after the live event in Seattle.

At all the live events there will be a projection of some sort with the video clues. After a reasonable interval, that same video will be available on the game website.

No, they would not give me any insider info, no answers, no clues, no hints. Nothing is timed. You have all the time in the world to get the answers to each 12 puzzles. The only "timed" puzzle would be the meta one. And that can't be fully solved until the last live event (Seattle). There may be something familiar in that meta puzzle (as in an ARGish flavor). It's gonna be deep. That's all he could share.

Hope you enjoyed it. I wonder if I'll show up on any of the PR film that MS did (you never know what makes the final cut).

____________________________________________________________
Let's see if they (or Loki more like it) is/are truly paying attention...Let's get her into the game personally.

Loki, you have created an obsession, tweaked the mind let's say, stimulated nerve endings, made me go back and actually watch a cult classic again, search for answers to the multitude of puzzles, verify & clarify information, search for answers even if others already had the answers...Take the tough route when the easy route was available elsewhere. Review and re-reviw the material again and again. I realize something...I Love This Game.

You have made this lost soul who genuinely loves a great mystery, real or imagined, defend your very existance, as you were very convincing in the vid's. I could be very wrong in believing you are anything more than an actress w/ a job to perform.

Your "Vanishing Point" could be a multitude of things, from your wish to be imortalized in a film, by a film project (like I said a cult classic, like Vanishing Point-The Movie), or create one. It could be to own your own Film Production Company like vpointproductions, or to quite plainly escape from the vpointgame project (as you yourself said, we are your "hour glass", when the game is up , when we solve the puzzle(s), Loki the paid actress or project/game creator will simply vanish), or even just to simply cease to exist as a woman w/ a single identity and marry (it wasn't hard to notice you appear to be single - no worries there as I'm not, and I'm no stalker). It could be none or all of the above, and it could be simply a game w/ an end. One thing I do know for sure. It is more than just a viral ad w/ you. My, what a "golden" opportunity...

Here are a couple of gifts I found for you, our mystery shapeshifter...

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aoUGndRRir0
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Bxwkl1Z0pv8&mode=related&search=

I didn't make either, I only wish I had...But my search for you led to them. So many twists and turns in "never leaving anything out"...Enjoy dear. While some have given up on the hunt until Saturday, my obsession continues. Here's lookin at ya kid.
__________________________________________________________
In Game, Out Of Game, GAME ON...You should, realize by now that this outrageously good viral ad and the other accompanying meta puzzle is both net and real life based, and is an ad campaign, a game, and a pure mind blowing blast.

They stretched this one further than most that have come before by including a ton of elements. The only rules one must abide by are those of the actual law, and those listed in the "Game Rules" section of the VPG site...Specifically this one; "CAUTION: ANY ATTEMPT TO DELIBERATELY DAMAGE ANY WEB SITE OR UNDERMINE THE LEGITIMATE OPERATION OF THE SWEEPSTAKES IS A VIOLATION OF CRIMINAL AND CIVIL LAWS AND SHOULD SUCH AN ATTEMPT BE MADE, MICROSOFT CORPORATION RESERVES THE RIGHT TO SEEK DAMAGES OR OTHER REMEDIES FROM ANY SUCH PERSON (S) RESPONSIBLE FOR THE ATTEMPT TO THE FULLEST EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW."

There are no rules to the actual playing of the game there, before yesterday most of you would have said calling Microsoft was "OOG", today though it was IG (heck, they devised and created the game...They Are Responsible For The Game!)....And there's a real prize that is in the end "Out Of This World!" When this game/contest/sweepstakes is over...for at least 2 participants...The real fun will be just beginning! And another prize that will be the biggest ego trip of all.

IG, OOG...Pfttttttttttt. Show me the rule book, as I have now seen here that even "the community" can't agree on what the rules are. Either the PM's set the rules in stone, or they cover every base. Otherwise everything seems IG to me.

cglrcng love your enthusiasm but unfortunatly as far as Loki is concerned UF doesn't exsist. If you would like to see if she will play with you I'd suggest posting your message on a personal blog or somewhere that isn't considered OOG. (out of game)
One of her phone numbers let you leave her a message you could make the site and leave the url on her VM, maybe.

Yes, UF is by our definition OOG. Characters do not come here. And if they do (sometimes new PMs don't read the TOS carefully enough), we shoo them away. This is where we talk about games, outside the view of the characters. So their universe stays intact. We step into their universe to interact with them in the game and then come back here to talk about it.

Other communities take a different approach to this, but this is a fundamental part of how UF operates.

Then I fully apologize...

I truly missed that part. This is a true alternate reality. Members here though say outright that the PM's are watching...But you say they can't watch. Is there any wonder why I'm confused?

A question.

Do you folks read what you write? Not flaming, just trying to understand. There are rules, there are no rules...Loki isn't real, only the PM's are real. The characters that "aren't real" can't come here since they are only made up by the PM's, this is where we escape to to discuss the game away from the unreal characters, but the PM's come here to judge the players' progress...If they meant and designed it to happen it will, but if they didn't design it that way, then they didn't. But then they will change the rules mid-game if we tend to be smarter than they were, or intended to be.

How can anyone possibly win a game using that logic? Give me a rulebook that includes thinking "outside the box" and I'll follow it to a "T"...The Holy Bible is less cryptic.

The PMs are watching, but Loki is not. It is expected that the PMs will be watching in order to gauge players' progress.

It's just a matter of separating the fictional people from the creators.

bwahahahaha.

*Starts planning next devious rules twist to make it even more confusing...*

Sorry about all that.

It'll become clearer as things move along. Welcome!

The PMs are expected to "watch" (or "lurk") in order to keep track of what works and what doesn't work. But they cannot directly respond to anything posted in here unless a player sends that information to a character (which might happen in a real ARG where players and characters interact - for good examples, read some of the threads in the ARG archives). This isn't a real ARG, it's more of a puzzle trail with ARGish elements.

We don't have any rule book because in real ARGs, there is not "winning a game"....in ARGs we have saved characters, saved the world, killed Santa Clause, destroyed AIs, etc. The ultimate outcome of the ARG depends on 1) the PM's story, and 2) the players' actions.

The puzzles have been created by 42entertainment. They hired an actress to portray a character named Loki. The PMs will read the boards to guage how we are doing along with the puzzles, the responses, and reporting back to MS how many people are becoming aware of the Vista product (the purpose of this marketing campaign). They will give the actress a script to read on camera (and for recordings) but they will not send her out into the real world for improv (according to Elan).

This forum has always been considered OOG to allow us discussion about things we don't want the "characters" to know about. And good PMs respect that. And it's for sharing of resources and information. If we are puzzle solving, we share the puzzle and the solve (putting the solve in spoiler box). If we send out emails, we post the email & the response. If we try emails addresses and find they do not work, we often share those to help other players NOT waste time repeating past mistakes.

What is tough about VPG is that it's still mostly a puzzle trail (with a sweepstakes - that does not require any winners to have solved any puzzles), with an ARGish component for the META prize.

I beg to differ a wee bit; She was an active participant in the countdown, unveiling, and "The Launch" in Las Vegas. She appeared at the Keynote right next to Uncle Billy, the Launch began w/ her present and pretty much "In Character" as an employee/vendor/guest (or whatever), as the Launch site was unveiled to the press and CES Participants (in the manner of showing how to view thumbnails w/ Vista), could you call that planned or just a PM mistake perhaps?....And I have seen numerous pic's. on the net and at Flicker of her photographed w/ CES attendees (one even said he asked her to dinner for 6:30 PM the 8th. and she told him she was "busy."

While true, if one is wearing blinders, one may not call that "improv", but this was after the "Game On" time...And I know for a fact she is currently in LA and will probably be there for that "Live Event" also. I suspect that the faxed (though admittedly partial), Itinerary is pretty real so far.

I'm headed to LA this afternoon- (5.5-6 hrs. from home), then PHX - (3 hrs. from home), after the LA event. So we'll find out I guess.

Sry to be a pest all....You were kind w/ the "enthusiasm" tag the last few days.

Thanx for putting up w/ a stupid n00b to ARG's the last few days. I am learning.

Actually, it seemed to many that she was out of character, but still "playing along" as best she could. In other words, she was at CES as a perk, and to clue in other people, but outside of that capacity, she was just there to see the show and have fun. I'd submit as evidence the fact that she posed for pictures, something I'm sure that the "real" Loki wouldn't have done. That was the actress being cool about being recognized. Saying she was "busy" at 6:30 probably wasn't even untrue ... She was probably expected to be someplace else, either for filming or just to keep up the appearance that she was putting on the show.

Anyway, we're really arguing about stuff that doesn't have any bearing. Yes, we're being watched and paid attention to, and they might make minor adjustments to the game as we get more clever, but I'd say that there's very little room for adjustment in a project this size. It's a real sweepstakes/contest this time, which means that there are rules THEY have to follow as well, and part of that is probably having everything checked out by lawyers and whatnot beforehand.

I'm really and truly sorry if this is a trout, but I don't know what I'd type into the search to get this answer.

Has anyone tried corrolating the flight plan with the calendar already? If the calendar really is anomolus then perhaps it is in order to force it to fit with flight times, which would be far more obvious for being out of synch.

n.b.

And in relation to the influx of us clumsy newbies (and there may be many, thanks to the hotmail ad) perhaps there could be a thread of 'newbie advice' to dump all our interruptions into? 'Lurk before you leap' and a definition of the rules of forum etiquette seem to be written in EVERY thread.

Actually, Giskard set a stickie with posting guidelines at the top of the VPG subforum. He's good about that stuff. And we do hope people read and comply because we hate locking threads and movings things around. If weird stuff comes up sometimes you supplement that stickie, but otherwise we just cope with the influx of people unfamiliar with this community. Hopefully this will be a little less chaotic than the Pirates contest last year.
