Might want to check the differences, and see who edited it.

Edits on Lorelei POEM
Only one line is unedited

When checking out the edit history of the lorelei poem, one finds that the only line unedited is the line:

"Her golden jewelry glistens"

Yet, I do not recall any previous hints, clues, or otherwise rabbit holes with promptings of gold or jewelry. Any ideas?

BTW- yes... the poem was amended 2 days ago, on the starting day of the VPG. Coincidence?

11, 12, 13 ???
Strange spacing.

Interesting... and perhaps I am making something out of nothing at all (oh how the game makers must love seeing what people "find") the poem is 25 lines in length. 11 lines differ, then one line static (line 12- "Her golden jewelry glistens"), then 13 more lines differing. Again, I have no clue as to what it could mean. More thasn likely I am simply bored at work and hoping this leads to more action.

Funny thing about patterns ... when you start hunting for them, you start seeing them everywhere. When I was a kid, I was at a baseball game on Friday the 13th. At one point, the scoreboard went blank except for a 13 on it. After a few seconds, everything was back to normal. Just a fun little prank by the scoreboard operator.

But for the rest of the night, I kept "finding" patterns of numbers that added up to 13. The deliberate seed of the number caused me to find patterns where there really weren't any.

The moral of this story ... When you're supposed to find something, it'll be pretty obvious. Smile

No, that's deliberate. After the Seattle event, someone will finish the Meta Puzzle, and it would make sense story-wise that Loki would need to be at AMD to give them the winner's name.

Loki Contact Sum-Up

What's been found today:

After the email revealed that we had to "try harder", I called Microsoft Headquarters like this:

1(800) 642-6767, option 5, say "Operator"

and found that you can contact people by email alias. I asked for v-loki and they forwarded me to a voicemail with the following message:

Awesome Work. All Knowledge Eventually Needs Effective Diagnosis

Leading us to http://www.vanishingpointgame.com/awakened/

This site has the phone number:

1(866) 523-5127

If you enter a fax number when prompted, a fax will be sent to you with an itenerary for L. Kitsune as follows:

Jan 4 AW 291 12:05p 2:22p
Jan 11 SW 608 7:00p 8:05p
Jan 18 AA 1308 1:45p 6:40p
Jan 24 UA 373/339 9:15a 1:07p
Jan 28 AK 394 9:55a 12:08p

12:08p is circled with a note below that says:

Former AT&T Building
x55654

We found that the former AT&T building is the AMD building in San Jose (destination of flight AK 394). Upon calling this building at:

1(408) 749-4000 x55654

We get another message:

Hi, this is Loki. Or rather her electronic footprint left behind on this machine.
Funny how the inanimate world retains traces of things long after they've disappeared, isn't it?.
If you're calling about the murmuring rock project, it's on hold indefinitely, unfortunately (or 'and fortunately)

We assume that the "murmuring rock" that she's speaking of is the Loreley (or lorelei), a special rock in Germany. We also assume that this is the clue for her "question" (as mentioned in http://www.vanishingpointgame.com/on_the_run").

Tracking Flights...All are after the planned events...
Arrival in San Jose is not yet too late...

I'm assuming the SW flight is from Las Vegas (after the first event/CES) to somewhere (one of the next event sites?), but without a destination the Southwest website doesn't provide info. Anybody know a better way to get information about what those flights all are?

http://www.flytecomm.com/cgi-bin/trackflight

Enter the airline & flight #

Loki Kitsune fits the folklore mythology link to a "T" w/ a bit of ARG theme in it. I wouldn't put my thoughts on the PLAY/GOLD theory away just yet as even Dennis Rader's wife had no idea he was BTK until after his arrest. She researched her character very well. She said leave nothing out....I'm not. A fax on demand of her flight #'s is amazing to both set up and find. Great work to the finder of that jem.

The daring soul might just wish to book a flight for a contact chance. But they would need to know the code word.

Just another tidbit....A search for Loki Kitsuni takes you to both the Norse Legend God of Loki and the Japanese Mythology of Kitsuni...They both mean exactly the same thing...A trickster, a shapeshifter...a jokester. And again...I really don't think I was that far off w/ the "Gold" word last night...the only line NOT EDITED contains reference to her Golden Jewelry? Is the casing on the AMD 64X golden in color perhaps? Yes they certainly are! I have yet to see one but heres a pic.

http://shop.amd.com/us-en/products.aspx

All flights do lead the right directions.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kitsune
http://www.crystalinks.com/trickster.html
Look down the list there, you will find both Loki & Kitsuni listed.
http://www.crystalinks.com/norsegods.html

Just heard from a friend who was keeping an eye out in LV for me tonight (a frequent flyer on vacation w/ lots of miles to burn, he isn't playing the game, but I am)...There was someone matching Loki's description that boarded Southwest Airlines Flight 608 that departed the gate at 7:19 PM and arrived in LA, CA at 8:05 PM. No approach made, but Loki now has a tail...It is afterall of her own making and he's a safe type. He going to witness the LA event...I just may join him. I was going to head to PHX as it is half the distance it is to LA, but what the heck.

Oh, after seeing the poem edits in side by side format, I'll change GOLD to perhaps "golden", but I won't back off from that word or phrase. Everything points to it that I have seen...She will only ask for 1 single word. Of course the time has to be right and of her choosing and the AMD Winner will have to make contact.

http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Loreley&diff=99426811&oldid=98969229 golden/gold appears in the original edit, but no less than 3 times and well placed in the last line! There it didn't appear until 2 days ago....On the 8th no less.

1 last thing...

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nix

"..The German Nixe is a kind of river mermaid who lures men to drown, akin to the Celtic Melusine and similar to the Greek Siren.

Nixes are water spirits who try to lure people into the water. The males can assume many different shapes, including that of a human, fish, and snake. The females are beautiful women with the tail of a fish. When they are in human forms, they can be recognized by the wet hem of their clothes. The Nixes are considered as malignant in some quarters, but as harmless and friendly in others.

One famous Nixe of German folklore was Lorelei. According to the legend, she sat on the rock at the Rhine which bears now her name, and distracted fishermen from the dangers of the reefs with the sound of her voice...."
_____________________________________________________
Are we being lured into shallow water?...The contest main prize(s) is financially rewarding and a Grand Experience....The AMD prize is yes immortalization of name, while winning the most challenging of brain game...Not truly related, and but a side bit of fun, but of no real financial reward, purely ego related (not that I'd mind either mind you). To be hidden under a fan and heatsink would take a bit of getting used to, tho of all the units I personally build, those AMD's are the hottest!

So maximus in IRC figured out that we should try getting the voicemail by calling Microsoft and asking to be transferred to v-loki at microsoft.com

That gave us a new voicemail from loki:

http://www.zerogen.net/loki/loki.wav

"Awesome Work. All Knowledge Eventually Needs Effective Diagnosis"

So I listened closely and tried harder: First letters -> AWAKENED

http://www.vanishingpointgame.com/awakened/

Which gives us a new number to call...

____________________________________________________
I don't want to either spoil the game, or get us as a unit off onto the wrong track as far as clues, since I can fairly put some in order by category, but none in order by sequence of events...But using the above and earlier hints and a "random word generator" using "Time", "Magic", "Memories", "People" and the phrases "Time Passes", "Magic Happens", "Memories Fade", & "People Disappear" and adding them 1 by one to the end of the url;

http://www.vanishingpointgame.com/

It comes up w/ a small number so far of what I believe are future clues (and a ton of 404 page not found(s)).

I won't publish them yet, since we don't know what order they go in. This isn't a tease (still working on the pages, as I get results from the generator), but I saw a simple pattern and took a shot. Looks like all are strictly the META part of the game to me. Will Loki change the rules or the game if we get ahead of her in some way? Is there such a thing as cheating as long as you aren't truly cracking a website...but merely taking a well tuned shot in the dark? What rules does she live by?...It is afterall her game, her puzzles...her rules. But our challenge.

PS...I also read the thread you referred me to and of all the posts there, I must agree w/ vpisteve from that thread...He said he'd check the ARG rule book, then came back w/ "Oh Yeah...there isn't one...."

Loki said they were looking for some of the smartest people on the planet, and the prize is BIG!

I did some more checking. I'm thinking the poem edits may be misleading.
The person who edited them is from:

Location: United States [City: Quincy, Massachusetts]

http://www.dnsstuff.com/tools/ptr.ch?ip=72.45.42.139

That location doesn't seem to fit in if it was game related.

You can buy a fully refundable first class ticket with a credit card, enter the gate area, wait for Loki, and cancel the ticket for a full refund after the ordeal.

You have to remember at a meta level that there is no Loki, but PM's who created a fake gaming environment. Thus, any attempts to cheat the characters are in effect cheating the creators of the game.

Using an automated word list to look for folders falls under Brute Force. That has been previously debated extensively (see this thread for example).

At worst your automated code will constitute a DoS attack. At best, you will ruin the game and thrill for discovery for yourself. We play these games not for the prizes, but for the thrill you get when you solve a puzzle.

My personal opinion is that automated brute forcing is wrong when applied to web servers, and in this specific case of Vanishing Point should NOT be used.

I think you are correct in not posting your results, and that you should not further pursue this direction because I know based on past experience and current game elements that it is not the intention of the creators for us to do so.

That said, if you weren't doing it in an automated way, and just typing in every attempt based on random shots in the dark, then it would have been fine to continue that and post your results.

The PM's should take care of any unexpected turn of events from player actions in an in-game manner. e.g. if you do find the last answer to the super AMD chip printing prize, they will quickly make it obsolete.
