First things first, second things second. ARGFest-o-Con II?

Here's the scoop. The ARGFest has happened. The fun was had. Partytime must come again. We need more pictures. We need more stories. We need someone to do something so outrageously funny while drunk, that they can be reminded of it periodically to much embarassment (imbrilog ring any bells?).

Usually, I'm a pretty quiet member at the UnForums. Now that ARG-Fest-o-Con has come and gone, it's time to start thinking about ARG-Fest-o-Con II. First, we need to come up with a location. I think that, since the last one was in Las Vegas, this one should be on the east coast (of course, I'm biased because I'm on the east coast). Considering that the east coasters are pretty well spread out, we'd have to choose a travel-friendly location. The specifics do not need to be decided today, but just so the discussion is open, I started this thread. I'd love to host the party at my apartment, but I'm sure a dozen people won't fit in my only bed. Other things that come to mind are "Who's interested?" and "What kind of activities should be planned?". Not to mention that I'm willing to be the guy who does something really stupid while drunk!

Communication is good. Offer suggestions, comments, whatever. Most of us are still jealous that we didn't go to the first, so we should be frothing at the mouth over this.

/me is still very green with envy.

But I don't want to cry my tears of regret into the pillow of remorse just yet. Let's put our heads together. It's always better to act sooner rather than later. Now get to thinking. Go on....

/me waits for responses.

Orlando

My vote is for Orlando, especially if people are considering October, because of all the Halloween events at Universal Studios. The Halloween Horror Nights (weekends in October and more dates toward the end of the month) are a fantastic time to visit, and the weather is generally very comfortable. Accomodations run the spectrum from very reasonable to luxurious, so there's a hotel room for everyone as well.

I didn't check the dates, but EPCOT generally has their Food and Wine Festival during the end of October, also. You can cruise through the different countries and get sampler platters of international dishes and wines at special prices. You can also reserve a seat at one of the gourmet dinners with internationally renowned chefs if you're into that sort of thing.

And I would vote east coast east coast - the boston/D.C./Baltimore/South Carolina region (which now looking at it, spans some serious coastline).

But still. east coast should be east coast. like on a coast. in the east. (I'm now getting redundantly retarded)

It's either that or we head to Winnipeg Wink

date/place choices

I'd say that once a location is decided upon, someone should check on airfares for several dates before deciding when it should be. Sometimes the price difference from one weekend to the next can be enormous depending on the season and events going on at the time. I know when I was looking at tickets to vegas for my honeymoon, the weekend we originally wanted to go was about $300 more due to some big boxing event in town.

date/place choices

Of course I am kicking myself for not being in Las Vegas... but I would look forward for a 2nd chance.

Orlando is a great spot and Halloween Horror Nights at Universal is a perfect idea. I second that it has a wide array of lodging for everyone's budget (or lack thereof).

Since I am (sort-of) local (3 hours away) I could help with coordinating efforts.

Count me in for a trip to Florida in October (and the sooner we know the dates, the easier it is for coordination).

I wouldn't mind Boston either (interesting local, lots of history, ripe for a mini-quest), maybe a field trip to New Jersey Wink

And then we plan for ARGFest-o-Con III in the Bay Area (San Fran or San Jose) for 2004?

Damn, you guys make things difficult for me. You plan the first con for a week AFTER I get home from LA...then you start planning a con for two weeks BEFORE I'm already gonna be in Orlando...and now somebody suggests SF for spring '04, when I'll already be back in LA again.

Looks like I'll have to live with just the pics...

Well that's the best idea I've heard all day! Here's the Winnipeg proposal:

Arrive Friday, head to my house (sleeps 43 without beds, 4 with). Have a drinky-poo with the missus and the princess.

Friday night: Go down to Teasers, Winnipeg's 'finest' burlesque palace. I believe if you come down in October, we can catch 'Banana Festival'.

Friday Night After-Party: Big ass bonfire on the side of the number 1 highway. Good times! BYOB.

Saturday AM: After breafast in bed, head down to the Forks for the 1st annual Jamesi Sez Scavenger Hunt. Prizes include a beer and three Aero bars.

Saturday afternoon: I need a nap. So do you.

Saturday Night: Head over to the most authentic English style pub (The King's Head) and play darts and billiards until we grow weary of sharp objects and racks of balls. Then, head over the Coyotes bar, famous 'cougar' bar (for definition, email me).

Sunday AM: After brunch in living room, head over to the Transonca Ballpark, play some softball (drinkering optional) and then head back to my house for barbequed hamburgers and more beer.

Sunday afternoon. I need a nap. So do you.

Sunday night: What the hell are you still doing in Winnipeg? And you don't already have hives? GET OUT WHILE YOU CAN!

Any other ideas can be emailed to me. Loking forward to you all coming to help change diapers and drink beer.

re imbri's message:

Orlando indeed equals lotsa fun, but wheels would be required. Even if I don't go IN Epcot, I would visit the restaurants and shopping at Disney. Biggest advantage - many things to do when group not actually convening for an event (as in Las Vegas). Beachy locations would trade that advantage for sitting around in the sun drinking the local brew when the group is not actually convening for an event . . .

Some commentary on suggestions to date:

the Keys - no info

Orlando - Smile

Atlanta - night life, not exactly cheap, not sure what else we would do there when we weren't drinkering

Savannah - charming, small, walkable, may appeal to golfers most, really not much going on but at least we could get good rates close to downtown. Once you've had the horse-drawn tour of the city squares (all 20 or 30 of 'em), you've seen everything there is to see.

Hilton Head - more night life, wonderful beaches, great golf and tennis but not cheap

Charleston - my favorite city ever - great restaurants. charming places to visit in town and outside; maybe get a beach house outside of town . . . I like it better than Savannah although they have many similarities, but I have to say that there's just something about Charleston that draws me back.

Myrtle Beach (Holden Beach?) - what imbri said

Outer Banks - like Myrtle Beach -
beach/house/cookout/restaurants/miniature golf

NC/TN mountain areas (beautiful if in november) - would need a great lodge on a lake and a quest to get us through the weekend...hmmm

Virginia Beach - more cosmopolitan beach (not as nice as Hilton Head, more commercial development).

Moreland WV Wink 'nuff said.

DC/Baltimore - woo hoo! I can offer spare rooms!

NY - expensive, can be difficult to navigate for the newbie - would really need homegrown host(s)

Boston - expensive, but historic.

OK I'll stop now... well one more

more mid than east...
. . .
Niagara Falls - woo hoo! my mom can offer spare room! (I'll sleep on the couch).

I'm open to anywhere back east. If I can make ARGCon I with only three days notice, I can do anything. Wink

Orlando, Boston, Chicago, New York, even Aglaura, NJ, are all fine with me!

Clearly Ozy will be visiting only the Universal park if we meet in Orlando. Laughing

I'm with Ozy, then. That's where all the bars and hot chicks are.
