 MeiGeist: The Beginner's guide
What's the game all about?

I've spent all night updating the wiki, and it was lacking a "quick and dirty" introduction to the game, so here it is:

What is Meigeist?
Synopsis

Meigeist is an Alternate Reality Game revolving around Eva McGill, a 19 year old college student studying at the Sphere Research Institute in Bristol, England. Eva has lost her pet cat, Erwin and needs our help to find him - but not all is as it seems. There is some as yet unknown connection to Melvin Geist, a director / actor/ businessman who is causing controversy with his construction plans. The following section aims to give new players an idea of what the game is all about, and to give them an idea of the story so far without a blow by blow account of everything that has happened.

Strange Goings On

Eva lives alone in a flat her mother left to her. Professor Bryan Wilson, a professor at the aforementioned S.R.I. generally keeps an eye on her and is very friendly.

While out looking for Erwin, Eva had an accident and hurt her foot. Strangely though she has no memory what actually happened. All she remembers was falling and then waking up at home with her foot bandaged.

As if that wasn't bad enough, the latest project Professor Wilson asked Eva to carry out has some rather disturbing undertones.

Eva was asked to investigate Youshi, a health drink produced by the Youkin company. Although the company website had a (somewhat annoying) chatbot, it was not easy to get much information about Youkin. Eva asked people viewing her blog for any help they could offer, and support came flooding in, incuding an offer of help from two eccentric conspiracy theorists, Pat and Dave... But Eva was also contacted directly by one Keir Jones via an email address which she had NOT made public. Keir offered a warning that "There are people who know you better than you know yourself", and told Eva to be careful at S.R.I. Naturally, this got Eva rather worried.

After some conversation it transpired that Keir may not be a complete bad guy, but there's still so much enigma surrounding him, it's unknown whether he can be trusted or not.

The Youshi arrives and things go downhill

In order to help Eva with her assignment, Professor Wilson arranged for a sample of Youshi to be delivered to Eva. The ingredients on this stuff are absurd to say the least - Eva's a very brave girl drinking it.

As the days go on, Eva appears to get more and more depressed. She has started having bad dreams and headaches. Additionally, other strange things have been going on in her flat - books falling off shelves of their own accord, and ghostly shapes moving arround, accompanied by strange sounds.

Keir shows up again, this time with some information which he claims comes from S.R.I. and Professor Wilson, regarding Eva. Someone appears to be monitoring her movements. Could it be that Professor Wilson is not to be trusted? Speculation abounds regarding Neuro-linguistic Programming techniques. Everyone's worried about Eva and urge her to stop drinking Youshi.

An ominous message arrives from Professor Wilson, stating "My dear girl, I am sorry. I've known this day would come for many years and please believe me, I have been dreading it."

After the Youshi

The Youshi supplies have finally run out, and coincidentally Eva is feeling a lot better, but who knows for how long...

Right, time this was updated:

After the Youshi
The Youshi supplies have finally run out, and coincidentally Eva is feeling a lot better. She received a parcel from America, from one Dr. Frankie Francis. The contents of this package are not entirely clear, but they certainly shocked Eva.

At the end of her latest video blog the screen distorted and people started getting worried. Attempts to contact Eva were met either with silence, or with a strange auto-reply containing a mysterious image. However a day later Eva posted a new blog explaining that the parcel contained Voiphe, Eva's teddy bear from when she was a child. Apparently the power cut out in her flat at the end of the video, and came back on unexpectedly some time later. There's something not quite right going on somewhere along the line...

Just how much does Keir know?Keir Jones is apparently being monitored by persons unknown at S.R.I.. Somebody knows he has been leaking information. The question that remains now is: who?
Professor Wilson is apparently not happy with certain practises at S.R.I. and has contemplated resignation. Is he to be trusted? Is he a good man pushed into doing bad things?

Wilson goes missing and Dr. Francis arrives on the scene
Keir has contacted Eva with the pictures of himself being surveilled. Pat and Dave think that both Keir and Professor Wilson are fairly harmless, but Keir knows far more than he is letting on. However, he has offered some clues in the form of Yuki Dolls for sale on ebay.

Eva has made a speedy recovery and her foot is now completely healed, meaning she is no longer house-bound. seems rather smitten by Keir and has extended an invitation to him to meet up, but she is also worried at the fact that Professor Wilson has apparently gone missing. The mysterious Dr. Frankie Francis has made contact with Eva via email - it would appear that Dr. Francis is currently staying in Eva's childhood home. A look at Dr. Francis' Website reveals that she knows about subject180287.net, which begs the question, just how much does she know?

We Love Beef launches

Pat and Dave: They love beefWe Love Beef, a website set up by Pat and Dave, turns out to be a grass-roots ARG. It seems that it is merely a cover-story though, perhaps a way for Pat and Dave to communicate with us without fear of the wrong people overhearing. Pat and Dave have also started organising a sortie to Bristol on 18th February (Eva's birthday) in order to carry out some "Undercover Action".
Meanwhile, Eva has been getting some weird feelings while alone in her flat. Things moving around of their own, something "just not right". she is also apparently under surveillance, perhaps by those same people who are monitoring Keir. Whoever it is, it almost certainly relates in some way to subject180287.net. Most weird of all was the latest video blog left on Eva's website. The text "Coreoutput-_" linked to a video showing a strange ball of light approaching Eva. She's scared, and rightfully so, so she's been staying at Professor Wilson's house for the time being.

Life and Death
Pat and Dave led various players on a merry conspiracy-chase through the streets of Bristol, eventually heading to The Watershed for the Psivolution Symposium chaired by Dr. Frankie Francis. After explaining a few things about the shady KenKon Corporation, Dr. Francis received a call on her mobile phone from an unknown source, and left in a hurry. Meanwhile,Eva and Keir were due to meet that same day at The Watershed. However, fate conspired against her, and Keir didn't show, leaving only a message warning to Eva that she was in danger. Eva fled the scene very quickly, only to discover later that Keir was dead. Had he run afoul of KenKon? Was Keir assassinated? Did he fake his own death? The speculation rages on...

Eva Vanishes
On her video blog posted on her birthday, Eva learns of Keir's death, and appears to vanish at the end. Eventually it is discovered that she is being held, in a comatose state, beneath the Montauk compaund in the USA. Professor Wilson is back on the scene, having been travelling round the United States in search of Melvin Geist. He has yet to find Geist, but he has managed to find Erwin. Wilson and Dr. Frankie Francis are aware of Eva's situation and have asked for help to revive her, through the medium of a video sequence constructed specifically to jog eva's memory and return her to a conscious state. While their intentions seem noble, there is still an air of distrust surrounding both Wilson and Francis. Are they looking out for Eva's best interests? Or are they simply pursuing their own personal agendas?
