Space Colony One

I guess it deserves its own thread now... The organisers of this ARG added me on MySpace and then I posted about it in this thread.

This is a (probable) ARG being made for mtvU's Digital Incubator programme.

You can sign up for it at http://www.spacecolonyone.net.
You then get redirected to http://http://x5.ct0r.net/.

They have a video on YouTube

According to the mtvU site, Space Colony One officially launches on October 9th.

I got an invite on myspace as well, and I'm excited, because I haven't been into any ARG for at least a year.

I'm ready to give this one a go!

I'm gonna send in a sample of my hair and see what happens. Unless this is just some covert government genetic profiling program in which case maybe not.

Did you see an address to post it to?
I couldn't see one on the envelope in the video, but I wasn't looking that closely...

You could always send them a fake nylon hair from a wig, if you're that worried. Smile

The top page on google leads to a page about a local election...

link.

This leads to Michael Goodspaceguy Nelson's blog...

link!

EDIT: Wow this Nelson guy is actually all over the internet... Check it out, he's even in New Scientist. Which mentions that he actually has two blogs. There other one is here.

k, I sent in a sample of my hair with a note that has my username and security code on it. No return address, I don't want them knowing it's me if it's really a genetic profiling porgram.

Preamble: I would be very careful about this one. This seems like quintessential ARG material, but it's really dodgy. I could certainly conceive some sort of shady business trying to target the ARG community-who else might willingly give up a DNA sample to a complete stranger, it isn't real right?-with less than honourable intentions. Hate to be an agent of paranoia, but be careful. Could be a fun ARG, and it definitely looks like a potential.

Speculation: Michael Goodspaceguy Nelson, who is he? Why is he connected to an ARG? Why is he connected to MTV? Frankly, I have doubts that Space Colony One is a legit organization, genetic technology is in its infancy, and reprogenetics is still a long way off. The topic is bioethically so hot that no serious organization could avoid getting burned at the moment.

Maybe this Michael Goodspaceguy Nelson is actually Mike Nelson, the same guy from the Satellite of Love on Mystery Science Theater 3000. Laughing
