[spec] Miscellaneous Thoughts and Guesses
Hopefully some of these will be useful.

Feel free to move this or poke me if a these things have been mentioned. I noticed a few oddities and I thought they might have some meaning. I've mentioned them in the chat room a couple times, but I'll post them here so everyone can see. Maybe others have similar speculations that does seem to go anywhere else.

On Eva's Hometown:

In her blog, Eva mentioned that she lived in Springs, in the U.S. Mapquest says that there are two Springs, one in NY and one in PA. The New York location has a wikipedia entry and has been home to several authors and artists, including Vonnegut (someone had mentioned that the book burning comment reminded them of Vonnegut).

On www.subject180287.net/input1.html:

--"Nodes Expanding" suggests an AI search algorithm to me.
--"Digital Scarring Occurred" and "Deception Sites Online" are two VERY odd phrases and both begin with the letters DSO.

On Keir Jones puzzle:

--Instead of looking for an 11 letter movie, should we be searching for a 6 letter movie and append ".html" on the end?

Okay, that's all I got.

Personally, I don't think the number of letters in the movie is significant. Or, even if it is, we shouldn't limit ourselves based on that.

---

Anyways, your other points seem very interesting. I totally had forgotten that she said she lived in Springs. Also, nice notice on the awkward phrases with initials DSO. It vaguely reminds me of VFD from Unfortunate Events... XD

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Springs%2C_New_York

proves the link between Springs, Kurt (Vonnegut) and Joseph (heller) as mentioned in Eva's blog

More Weirdness

There apparently is (or was) a band called Quantum Leap. The email address indicates that the authors are in the UK...but the page is thoroughly broken and doesn't seem to have anything on it.

http://utenti.lycos.it/QL2/

I figure it's probably not in game, but I might as well mention it.

perhaps

I tried to email the hysterion email address it shows but it bounced...

I couldn't see anything interesting to work with, seems all the links have decayed etc...

also the content seems pretty vintage... think maybe one of the ppl who made the game was in this band back in the 90s remembered they still had a site and decided to use it as bluefish? or perhaps they just stumbled across this relic from the distant past Wink

If they had engineered it recently to fill out Pat's backstory then wouldn't they have left us something to get our teeth into?

so seeing as this thread has a suitably vague subject I thought it would be the best place to try to draw together some of the various narrative strands that have been dangled in front of us... I'm just putting this out there to try and stimulate some debate, creative dialectic and all that...

What is the Core?
seems to be cropping up a lot... input/output/legacy w/e - it seems like it is going to be pretty central to the plot.
spec
Is that what Melvin is building in his back yard?
let me throw a couple of quotes in -
from SRI:
Quote:
Professor Wilson's theory of a network which would be a physical version of the collective unconscious was shared by his collaborator of the time, Ted Nelson who went on to develop Hypertext.

(my bold italics)
I didn't know much about Nelson so I did a little research, heh, he is a pretty angry guy. He had a bunch of big ideas for the web and it all went wrong for him. If you want to read his side of the story, check here:
http://www.file.org.br/file2005/textos/symposium/eng/tednelson.htm

also from SRI:
Quote:
His early research was inspired by Teilhard de Chardin's Phenomenon of Man

My research indicates that one of Teilhard's pet causes was the "noosphere" where noo indicates "thought" -
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Noosphere
Teilhard (1881-1955) believed that evolution was leading us towards a "consciousness convergence" which he called the "Omega Point"

I'm not techie enough to know about that but it feeds into my hazy ideas.

ALISDAIRPARK related these exchanges with Yuki:
Quote:
more of interest:
I asked how it heard about me: Quote:
An AI from the future named VALIS contacted told me.

I asked who/ what VALIS was: Quote:
Vast Active Living Intelligence System (Philip K. Dick).

now I'm not suggesting that these answers should be taken at face value, but if you have read a little P.K.D then you may know that VALIS is much more than just an AI, more like a -- wait for it -- supreme collective consciousness.

As well as that there was the Digital Life Spawn page, random but still feeding into the idea of techno-lifeforms. (maybe)

Plus: it has been noted that the ingredients of Youkin are basically amino acids - which are regularly referred to as the 'building blocks of life'

Is anyone else seeing the pattern emerging here or am I clutching at straws? ... not enough info to make any conclusions yet but it seems like an awful lot of paths all leading in roughly the same direction... no idea what it all has to do with Erwin but maybe that will become more clear...

what do y'all think?

I'll post up more as it comes to me Wink

legioninfinity, I've noticed a these things too, and come to mostly the same conclusions, its too early to know for sure, but this seems to be the right track.

All of this collective consciousness stuff gives the otaku in me a serious head trip. Didn't Evangelion deal with a collective consciousness, or the dissolution of the individual? I haven't seen it, but I've skimmed a plot summary.

Of course, most people know this series by the shortened name "Eva"...

*probably completely unrelated...just gives me shivers..."

Hopefully some of these will be useful.

Could it be a reference to Pat and Dave's "Triptych nodes" ?
