Good question. If you can find a Mod or Admin to move this thread to the right place, then go ahead.

I just sent a pm to an admin, we'll see what happens.

Nothing spectacular, just a reminder that the -real- way to enter the game is to register at the site.... but it makes we think: Is the person on the other end of this message trying to get me to join with primatech and bring down others, or join up with -them- and take primatech out from the inside?

To put it another way... Who am I aligning myself with here: Heroes or Villians?

Also: When does this offically worm it's way out of "News & Rumors".

Also also: Hi. Smile

EDIT: added "to put it another way..." line

I just got that text, too. I think the l33tspeek might be significant. It wasn't present in any of the first few texts. Maybe the first texts were from Primatech/Mr. Bennett, and this new one is from someone else? Someone trying to get a spy on the inside?

This is what I've got so far with the l33t translation. I've filled in some of the blanks where it made sense.

I don't remember even seeing something you could unsubscribe from by snail mail, but then I don't often check that part of an email. Is that address in game, or is it just the NBC headquarters or something?

EDIT: And again, could someone translate the SMS number into something that works from Australia? Please?

EDIT 2: Also, nothing in the email source code.

Source code

When I pulled up the source code for primatechpaper.com there is a bunch of gimme text about NBC,

But a strange part of it includes a reference to:
"
Copyright 1997-2005 Omniture, Inc. More info available at
http://www.omniture.com -->
<script></script>
<script><!--
/* You may give each page an identifying name, server, a
nd channel on
the next lines. */
s.pageName="Primatech Paper Home Page";
s_prop10="Heroes";
s.prop2="primetime";
s.prop3="";
s.prop4="Primatech Paper"; "

Omnifurniture looks to be legit. Not in-game. Strange that it would be referenced in the source code.

Any ideas?

Omnifurniture isn't the same thing as Omniture. But in any case if Omniture is in game, it's the dullest in-game site I've ever seen. Plus a look at their customers suggests it's probably legit. My guess is Omniture is doing their web design for them.

The title bar says it all:
"Web Analytics | Web Analysis | Online Business Optimization"

That just means NBC wants to track who visits the site, how much traffic it generates, how long people stay at the site, where they click within the site, etc. Omniture provides a service to gather that data for their clients' websites, maintain a database of info and generate reports off that data. Other companies which provide this service will show up in source code as Google Analytics, ClickTracks, Coremetrics, Webtrends, just to name a few, often at the bottom of the page or in a javascript section. (p.s., this is completely separate from web design and hosting services)

I'm not exactly what it does (and am sure someone here does), but it looks like omniture takes care of stats for all nbc sites. I found this at http://viiv.nbcuni.com/viivexperience.html :

"SiteCatalyst code version: H.2.

Now this is pure speculation (or 60% Spec and 40% HopeHopeHope) but I'm thinking the PMs might contact us differently based on our answers.. Type 1's get one treated way.. Type 2's encouraged to do something differnt.. Type 3's to earn some npc's trust, etc..

and maybe we're gonna end up split into different factions with different goals, maybe even good-guy 'Heroes' vs bad-guy villians.

Again: pure speculation and wishful thinking on my part, but it's possible.. and (if true) awesome.

I've seen it discussed elsewhere that splitting the playerbase in an ARG is probably not a great idea. What makes ARGs work so well is the massive community united behind a single goal. There's a certain critical mass of puzzle-solving power required to make it all go. It's not so much an issue at the lurking and mainstream end, but splitting up the hardcores could really be a problem. I've read some mixed reviews of how that's worked out in Deus City. Still, if any game can do it well, it'll be a big commercially funded one with the potential to attract a huge audience, so who knows?

That would be awesome if they did it like that. Good idea

Coincidentally the third link (#3 page) on www.primatechpaper.com is the "about" page. I tried http://www.primatechpaper.com/ab.shtml and http://primatech.mlogic.mobi/item.jsp?key=ab but neither go anywhere.
