For 18. Take back my UFO comment: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rod_(cryptozoology)
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
anywhere from 5 inches to 1 meter in length, and it is proposed by that they have a thin membrane across their axis that is used for propulsion through the air

EDIT: dlbuller, it's def c.2007 for me.

EDIT2: For 13 & 14, although the Devil has been seen for hundreds of years I would guess at
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
January 16 – 23, 1909
. It's the period of highest sightings?

The C2007 is on the teenclub page not the movie page.
The questions 13 and 14 seem like trick questions. From what I can find a captain in the year 1800 first saw it ... but there indian legends about it too. the last sighting ... well its still being sighted. So 14 would have to be yes. I don't think the guy that wrote this quiz knew what he was talking about.
EDIT
John Wall (#17)
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
coined the term cryptid

aw maaan, this is why I should never sleep..... Evil or Very Mad

I finished the rest of the answers, except for the last one..."what is the code word?" That one has me stumped for the time being.

Here's what we have to date (c&p's from word doc...kind of cruddy looking here...)

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
1. Roger Patterson and Robert Gimlin
2. Bluff Creek, Six Rivers National Forest in northern California
3.

4. Ghost Writers
5. Indrid Cold
6. Chile
7. A businessman in September 1837, then Mary Stevens in October 1837.
8. April James and Kyle Lauer
9. Dover, Massachusetts
10. Water serpent about 25-30 feet in length, living in Lake Champlain
11. A bipedal flying creature with hooves, claws, and a tail said to live in the Pine Barrens in southern NJ.
12. A bipedal, hairless creature with an disproportionatly large head,
spotted near Dover, MA over a two day period in April of 1977
13. Jan. 16-23, 1909
14. no
15. "crypto" – hidden "zoology" study of animals. The study
of "hidden", or unknown animals.
16. Botetourt County, VA during the 30's, and Mattoon, IL during the
mid-40's

17. He coined the term "cryptid"

18. It is an entity appearing on photos and film that takes the form of a stick-like being. Anywhere from 5 inches to 1 meter in length, and it is proposed by that they have a thin membrane across their axis that is used for propulsion through the air. They are often dismissed as being an anomaly caused by fast-flying insects, or even birds, caught on camera.

19. ??? I have to thing it has "crypt" or "crypto" in it...??

I agree. To me, the full moon question almost seemed like it was also supposed to be a future hint of sorts for us. I found an online lunar phase calculator, and saw that during that period of time,
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
the moon went from just past the new phase, to a few days before the full moon...nothing noteworthy. So, if my assumption that we were expected to find a series of dates that did include a full moon is correct, we might have the wrong answer.

I double checked the dates for #13, and I really wasn't able to find anything else. Honestly, that question could be answered with a vague, 300 year timespan.
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
The Jan 1909 dates seem to be simply the first "noted" dates that is was sighted.

On a different note...
I wonder if the quiz was already up when I was whinning to the PM a few posts back about wanting to be put to work.... Embarassed

since the jersey devil has been sighted off and on for over 200 years there has to be atleast one incident of it being on a full moon. whether the pm likes it or not, however i think the 1909 spree in jan. is the one the pm is looking for.

as far as the last one goes
In telecommunication, a code word is an element of a code. Each code word is a sequence of symbols assembled in accordance with the specific rules of the code and assigned a unique meaning (e.g. a Gray code).
....Cryptography is about the creation of ciphers. A code word is an element of a code book designed so that the meaning of the code word is opaque without the code book.
straight outta wikipedia

I think I understand what you're saying. However, the way I read it, the question asks for a specific code word, not a definition of the term.

The 19th question is "What is the code word?", not "What is a code word?"

"Seculum" would translate into "to cut"...

eta - Dan and I were talking, and we came up with a thought. If you look at "seculumnarvartis", you can translate a portion of it from latin to english. "Seculum" mean "to cut". We've not been able to find a translation for "narvartis" or any other fragment from that word.

If you look at the background latin "gibberish" from the movie site, I wonder if there isn't a possibility that we have to cut either the non-word "narvartis", or just the letters that make up the word from the latin background text from the movie site in order to come up with ???

eta again... Or, maybe that's the damn codeword!? lol!! Boy, sometimes, the best hiding spot is right out in the open!

Wabonan, I'll wait until you post about your response from the club, and possibly the needed 19th answer. But then, I'd like to send in the answers using "seculumnarvartis" as the codeword. I'm betting (more like hoping and praying) that as long as we get the correct answers in by the deadline, we won't get penalized for a wrong answer - in other words, his mom won't be offed!

Sound good to you guys?

Hello there, Carol. This isn't the kind of club you "join," but rather the one you go to with friends to dance and have a good time. So, come on down and check us out! Admission on dance nights is free, but you have to pay for food and drinks (non-alcoholic, of course) and things like that. Hope to see you soon!
