Some of the screams sounded familiar... Marathon? Probably some public domain sources, if I may breach the fiction wall for a moment.

Blobs
The words layer, era and strata are now making think of geological features. I think we have to find a certain geological layer that has the same shape as the blobs put together (I'm thinking 2d jigsaw now), which could well correspond to some sort of national park. There's probably a route along it called "The <something> Way", somewhere along which is buried the cube...

Right....
The Greensand layer is a thin geological sand layer which runs through SE England. It has a narrow geological time frame. There is also a long distance footpath called THE GREENSAND WAY which roughly follows the ridge through Kent. There are lots of woods on route.

Could some one tell me what you mean when you say Blobs please

Has anyone separated the blobs from the relevant cards and put them somewhere where they could be obsevred/manipulated separately? Possibly so that someone with cool imaging software could put them together?

I sense fish in my future, but I have to ask anyway.

A number of cards have shapes on them that do not appear to have anything to do with the puzzle itself - for example, right above Aiko's name in 235 Circuitous.

The list is on page three of this thread.

Hm... never spent much time on Perplexorum since it wasn't accesible from work - but our highly inconsistent firewall has decided that it's now an acceptable site for me to view. Now I will play with that and snack on Trout .

do not be discouraged, because you will find a quadruped. a four legged animal with its "middle leg held proudly."

A four-legged animal with its middle leg held proudly, eh?
I have one word for you:
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
Inanimate.

By which I mean:
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
Don't look for a four-legged animal. Look for something that, to someone not familiar with Earth (I. E. Whoever wrote that passage) would mistake for an animal with its middle leg held up. After that, just walk twenty paces in the direction its leg is pointing.)

As for the talk about jewels, sadly I have no clues.

Quadrupeds

I turned my back to it and strode forward, but after only 20 ammot the light was upon me. Precious, my children, is the light."

Reading all the talk of the Jurassic way and how that neatly matches the "blobs", could the quadruped be referring to the
