So, taking stock of this new video, we can surmise that whatever or whoever is leaving these little videos for people to find, there are multiple entities involved. The repeated use of the word "we" proves that, so...maybe an organization? A cult? It definitely sounds as if the things being said come from some kind of "the world is sick/ill/corrupt/whatever" type cult. The kind that wishes to "help" the world "fix" itself.

Or possibly an egomaniac/psychotic. Those guys can refer to themselves as "we"

From another forum I found this:

Quote:
A small, sparsely populated area in the state of Wyoming including the town of Lusk was the victim of a late-night broadcast hijacking. The incident is notable for reportedly causing hallucinations among those who witnessed it, which were later determined to be the result of certain sound frequencies played throughout the broadcast that are known to have psychological effects. The broadcast consisted of the text "We Present A SPECIAL PRESENTATION" followed by "YOU WILL SEE SUCH PRETTY THINGS" and a repeated series of rendered animated faces. The responsible parties are unknown."

Quoting Lusk (an actual city) instead of just Niobrara County.

And has anyone seen Videodrome?
Quote:
Exposure to the Videodrome signal results in nightmarish hallucinations and bodily transformations

Dude, I call dibs on the claws that can cut through anything. Or possibly shooting spaghetti from my fingers. Cool

So, were these forums ARG-related, or was this actually something that happened?

It was another, small speculation forum. I was browsing around trying to see if anyone else had come up with anything -.-

I came across this thread while doing my own... Research/investigation of these videos (after having blogged about them). A few thoughts: It may just be me, but the first google video shows as having been posted on 08/09/06 (even though I don't see any mention of it anywhere in the net until around December/January, which is also somewhat odd; if it's an ARG or viral campaign why wait so long to attract attention to it?) and the follow-up video was posted on 02/05/07. That's a six month gap. I would expect more frequent postings if it was part of an ARG or some viral campaign. To me this feels a lot like Project EVIL/For Mein Fraulein... experiment from this past Summer, that it's either some kind of social experiment or a piece of creepy performance art. Another interesting note... The YouTube video was linked to by iliketowatch (who also was probably the person who posted the google video) and the YouTube video was posted by givemeanumber... I'd keep an eye out for people with four word usernames ("I like to watch, give me a number..."). ^.^

Live here.

Unemployed at the moment. Came across this vid while goofing off on youTube. Scared the bejeezus out of me. I'm just trying to figure out what it is so I can get some sleep again.

Although probably of absolutely no relevence, both usernames reminded me of "popular" culture references.

Iliketowatch = obviously it logically means that s/he just has an affinity for videos, but my first thought was the very creepy line from Fear Dot Com, "Do you like to watch?" Which if answered 'yes' to meant that you got a string of really creepy video images (sort of like the much more popular Ring). Then you begin to hallucinate and usually end up dying horribly.

givemeanumber = Immediatly reminded me of the exact same line from Neil Gaiman's Sandman. More specifically, Part Five of The Doll's House at the Serial Killer Convention. The Bogeyman's gimmick is "Give me a number" to which he would then proceed to tell you what was special about that numbered person he killed.

Both very creepy and probably irrelevant, but I thought I would share anyway. Embarassed

You're obviously too young to remember Peter Sellers in "Being There" (1979) as Chance the Gardener, whose line "I like to watch" was famously misinterpreted.

I had a similar thought. Not specific to the Harshad Numbers, but thinking that there might be additional data encoded in the video.

Well, I'm afraid that if there is something encoded, with upload on YouTube/Google vid it was lost

Not necessarily. I grabbed the audio off the first video and ran it through Baudline and was able to get a look at some interesting harmonics in the tones near the middle third of the clip (you can clearly make out three, need to capture an image for posting online). Of course, I'm no expert and have no way of telling if this is intentional or not. At any rate, it's always possible there's information encoded in those tones (if each tone represented a number, say 0 thru 9). There's a polytone broadcasting mode that you can catch sometimes, if you listen to short wave radio enough, which uses a scheme similar to this (it sounds a lot like someone hitting random keys on one of those old little cassio keybords). I know it's reaching, but anything's possible.
