you might be onto something, but after rereading both stories, i only found one similarity between the two.

At least the bad guy in the story knocked. That was kind of polite. But I don't see any connection to the masks we wear. Unless The Knocking Man is the same person who wore the Mark "Mask."

The only real connection I can make between the Knocking Man, and the rest of the story/game so far, is that the narrator makes mention of the Knocking Man feeding on him ("I would not feed him."). I know this has come up more than once before. I almost get the feeling that we're supposed to be dealing more with some sort of supernatural entity, a dark muse that is running around, consuming people. Using them as masks or mouthpieces to continue whatever... Game he, and/or his brothers, is engaged in with humanity. Getting to the bottom about that may be difficult, tho, as he seems to be a bit squeamish regarding questions of identity. I'm really hoping this 5th video advances the storyline, tho.

Let's call him what he is... if you look on the description for the Hackjob Johnnie thread, it says, "Playing the Dead man's game? POST HERE THEN"

So how about we call him Deadman, or maybe Dark Muse. DM for short, works for both.

I'm going back through the threads, and there are quite a few loose ends we need to look at. The connections of how people got the videos is one of them, the capitalized letters (for mood effect, or a code- I tend towards the former, given most of the words capitalized are "dark") Also the Wyoming/Lusk and Yellowknife connection hasn't been explored. But for now we have some real progress- an IG website and contact points, and something to look out for on Monday.

I think we are still establishing backstory for right now, and the game hasn't really begun. But things will start moving again now that some of the red herrings have been eliminated.

Translates to:
Spoiler (Rollover to View):

SHARP [FONIEIS]
[ANYPOLIPSIA]
[AIDIASTIKOS]
BROUGHT TO DESPAIR
[PARAFONIA]
BARBARISM
PARANOIA
I WITHER
[YLISTIKOS]

That's what I have so far... courtesty of Wordlingo. Might want to go through and do a straight transposition into standard english letters too.
Certainly an interesting list, though.

Well, looks like we have names for our Dark Muses.

I ran the Greek words through Webster's Online Dictionary, and this is a rough translation of what I got:

Caustic Words
Disrepute
Repulsive
Hopeless
Discord
Barbarism
Paranoia
Wilting
Materialism

The only thing that I can connect to the videos is the last word, Materialism, seems to be the message of the fourth video (YOU CAN LOSE EVERYTHING. NOTHING IS PRICELESS.)

it should be noted that each one of these "dark muses" seems to be the exact opposite of their sister counterpart.

also, can anyone translate the greek letters into western letters? example: Καλλιόπη becomes calliope. if we figure out which muse he represents, we can use that as a name for him.

My guesses:

Calliope (beautiful voiced) is the opposite of "caustic words".
Euterpe (rejoicing) is the opposite of "hopeless".
Clio (famous) is the opposite of "disrepute".
Erato (lovely) is the opposite of "repulsive".
Melpomene (melodious) is the opposite of "discord"?
Polyhymnia (many hymns) is the opposite of "paranoia"?
Terpsichore (dancing) is the opposite of "barbarism"?
Thalia (blooming) is the opposite of wilting.
Urania (heavenly) is the opposite of materialism (earthly).

I was sort of confused about three of them.

i would say polyhymnia is the opposite of barbarism as she was a muse of eloquence. melpomene being the opposite of discord makes perfect sense if you think of discordant music.

the only connection i don't get is paranoia and terpsichore.

Direct greek->roman alphabet translation

In the same order:

drimus fon(ay)eis
anrpol(ay)psia
a(ay)diastikos
apelpismenos
parafonia
barbarismos
paranoia
maraino
ulistikos

They (ay) is represtentative of the letter E, but is phonetically sounded as "A" as in "Hay"

EDIT::

Melody being the opposite of discord si understandable, as melody is derived from an organization of notes, or sounds, working in synch with each other. I would switch polyhymnia being the opposite of barbarism, just like viraldetector said. As for the dancing/paranoia aspect, someone dancing, I suppose, would be considered care-free, or happy to some extent, and someone who is paranoid, probably would not dance, for fear or ridicule, or negative treatment(This is why I don't dance at clubs =P) So, an updated comparison is as follows:

Calliope (Beautiful voiced) is the opposite of Drimus Fon(ay)eis (Caustic words.)

Euterpe (Rejoicing) is the opposite of Anrpol(ay)psia (Hopeless.)

Clio (Famous) is the opposite of A(ay)diastikos (Disrepute.)

Erato (Lovely) is the opposite of Apelpismenos (Repulsive.)

Melpomene (Melodious) is the opposite of Parafonia (Discord.)

Polyhymnia (Many hymns) is the opposite of Barbarismos (Barbarism.)

Terpsichore (Dancing) is the opposite of Paranoia (Paranoia.)

Thalia (Blooming) is the opposite of Maraino (Wilting.)

Urania (Heavenly) is the opposite of Ulistikos (Earthly.)

So which of the nine dark muses is our informant?

Are his words caustic?
He hasn't appeared hopeless.
He's all we have to go on, so "disrepute" wouldn't make too much sense.
He isn't repulsive, as far as we know.
He isn't discordant either.
Barbaric? Maybe, if he's into this "cubing" stuff.
Wilting? Is he dying?
Earthly? Materialistic? Possibly.

We don't know much about him, really.

I wonder if we're to discover his role as one of the nine by ruling out possibilities from the movies. These have to relate to something, and so far, everything he has mentioned seems unrelated, or loosley tied at best. Maybe the movies tell us a bit more about who he is, or who is working through him. Notice he says;

Quote:
I, for all you know, represent one.

In a way.

Sometimes

Maybe he's telling us that he is channeling one of these dark brothers, that one of them works through him.

If so, we would have to wait for more videos to be released before we could figure it out.
