[EVENT] Free screening of "The Host" in NYC Event: Mon Feb 12, 2007 9:00 pm
Quote:
Free Screening of The Host!
WHERE: Magno Review 729 Seventh Ave (between 48 & 49 St), 2nd floor, Room 1 NYC
WHEN: Monday, February 12th, 2007 at 8:00 PM eastern
WHAT: FREE advance screening of Bong Joon-Ho's The Host, sponsored by Magnolia Pictures and Helio
WHO: You!
HOW: Message me here at MySpace , email me at park.sunyi[@]gmail.com , or send me a private message at the discussion forums at my favorite website, www.monsterhunterclub.com to let me know you want to come. Only people who "reserve" a spot this way will be considered for the random poster drawings and will be admitted first if we run out of space. One of these people will also win the Grand Prize for the night – a copy of the Korean movie poster for The Host, signed by the director Bong Joon-Ho.
I really hope you can make the screening. At the very least, you might get a cool movie poster. Please be sure to message me by any one of the three methods provided above to be eligible for the posters. I've placed a few pictures of the posters I'll be giving away on my page here for you to see.

So far I haven't heard anyone say they're going to this, so if you are, please post here. It would be really great if we could get an unforumer there, as I wouldn't be surprised if something goes down. Of course, Sun-Yi will probably video it, but I would feel bad if Sun-Yi hosted this thing and no one showed up. I think most of us playing this are really scattered, though, so for most of us it probably isn't an option.
Anyone live in or near NYC?

I unfortunately do not, although I would love to have gone, even though I've already seen it. I'm really curious too. Since the movie explains exactly what Agent Yellow is, does that mean that the ARG will have to have ended by then? Otherwse, how is Matt Wheeler going to explain that one off? Unless someone sabotages the movie screening and no one gets to watch it...

I'm not caught up on the journal entries, but with regard to the Agent Yellow stuff, my general sense of the narrative is that, even though there's this movie called "The Host," many of the things in it like agent Yellow and weird things in the water are actually real. I don't think we've seen Matt address the Host thing yet, but maybe after seeing it on Monday (assuming he goes), he'll be like "They made a movie based on my grandfather's research!" ?

I tried following this ARG when it was in news and rumors, but I got busy and never caught up. Since it doesn't look like anyone is gonna be there I might be able to make it, the movie looks really cool, and it'll be my first live event. I'm in Boston so it's like a four hour train ride, but I'll make a day out of it, and maybe sacrifice going to classes on Tuesday (wish Sun Yi chose a weekend ). Anyone wanna fill me in on what I should be looking for, and anything I need to do if I can make it?

Here's a page that gives a very good recap of what's happened so far:

And this one gives all the site links and emails along with puzzle solutions we've gotten so far:

New Twitch Column and Last Chance at Free Screening of The Host
Current mood: anxious
Category: Blogging
Hi everyone! I'm very excited about the screening I am hosting tonight, co-sponsored by Magnolia Pictures and Helio, at 8:00 PM in New York City. We are almost full but there are a few seats left so if you are still thinking about coming let me know ASAP, either by messaging me here or through the member forums at www.monsterhunterclub.com. Actually, you can even text message me if you want and let me know, if you think it'll be a last minute thing. Send me a message here on MySpace and I'll give you my mobile # so you can send me a message and I'll add you to the list. I'm going to try and send some "live updates" via text messaging during the screening event tonight, so if you send me your number I'll put you on that list, too.
My new film review is up at Twitchfilm.net, this one discussing Pan's Labyrinth. Please leave me a comment there and let me know what you think about it.
See you all in NYC in just a few hours!

Wow, I'm a moron. It just occured to me:
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
Sun-Yi's last name is Park. The movie center's around a Korean family named park -smacks forehead- Not to mention that both Agent Yellow and the newest creature drawing on Matt's site (it looks like a little version of the film monster) connect him to it as well.
Anyway, I signed up for her text message updates, so we'll see what happens.

Last night I dreamed that Sun-Yi was starring in "The Host". Strange when games start to mess with your dreams

I just got back from the screening. I got a picture of Sun Yi and Matt and one of the theater that I will post in the morning. Derek wasn't there, but someone said he had to go pick up someone at the airport.
I didn't get a chance to sign up for the text messaging so I totally missed out on that. Anyone know what happened? I saw some people get messages and they seemed to leave before the rest of us.
At the end of the movie, Sun Yi gave out posters from the film.
I don't want to spoil the movie for anyone, but I will say that it is well-worth seeing.
