** NICE TO BE AT HAMLEYS: 'CITING, IF ANYTHING... **

Come and meet us! A smattering of Mind Candies are going to be rocking it up at Hamleys Toy Store (Regent Street, London) all week from Feb 12th until the 18th, as part of their Brain Gym programme. We'll be running some competitions, handing out cards, and spreading the Perplex City word to excitable nippers on their half-term break. It looks like we'll be on the ground floor, on your left as you come in, so if you're in the area, stop by and say hello!

** STORY UPDATE: THE LATEST FROM PERPLEX CITY **

Or: Where In The World Is Scarlett Kiteway?

After weeks of silence, Perplex City has woken up like a madman after a
particularly spooky nightmare. It's a frenzy of activity out there. Sente has been arrested over allegations of corruption in the PCAG tournament; Scarlett is missing-presumed-kidnapped by the Third Power, having also had her home broken into by persons unknown; Kurt is planning to rescue her from the suspected 3P hideout in Ascendancy Point, with help from Helena Frye and the Cube Hunters; and poor Violet is despairing about the state of her family and is terrified of how it ALL might end. Oh, and Caine had a romantic near-miss with Scarlett shortly before she vanished, but Violet doesn't need to know about that.

So, your help is needed. On Tuesday Jan 30th, at 7pm GMT, Kurt and Helena will be leading the assault on Ascendancy Point. Keep watching your screens. Scarlett's life may depend on it.

** BONUS NEWSLETTER PUZZLE **

Time for traditional newsletter puzzle, methinks. Last time around (before
Christmas!) we included the answers in the newsletter, so we can pass on the usual explanation this time around. Here's a new puzzle, then:

Fenlon's Coffee House sells wonderful doughnuts, but for reasons known only to Fenlon himself, you can only order them in boxes of 6, 9 or 20. So, if you wanted to buy 73 donuts, you could buy two boxes of 20, three boxes of 9 and one box of 6. But what's the largest number of doughnuts you *can't* (precisely)
order using these three box sizes?

** THIS WEEK WE'VE BEEN MOSTLY THINKING **

We've been thinking. Stuff like: isn't it a shame that once stuff in Perplex
City has happened, it's kind of history and you can't go and enjoy it if you're new? And isn't it a shame that because thousands of people try to solve a puzzle for our friends in Perplex City at once, if you're not the first to do it, then you don't really need to bother? But, on the other hand, isn't it great when everyone works together on stuff? And aren't our live events, online and in the real world, really great fun? Hmm...

And then, isn't it kind of a shame that there are only 256 puzzles in Season One, and only two are free on our website? Especially when you consider all the different types of puzzle out there, and how many of you create your own puzzles? We have ideas from you guys coming out of ears! Wouldn't it be good if we could offer you more puzzles, different puzzles, free puzzles... and let your puzzles share the limelight with ours?

Then we came up with some ideas. Stay tuned...
