[META] RocketPlane Webcast Is this something that would intrest you? Would you like to see me put this together for you guys? Konamouse and shark have both meet John Herrington and can contest he is very nice and very interesting.
I will put a web cast together (like 42 entertainment) with our NASA astronaut and Pilot John Herrington, to talk about our involvement in this game, history and any questions you would like to ask? Also I may possibly be able to get the winners of the contest in the web cast as well. They are here at the Rocketplane Kistler offices this weekend and the official announcement is here on Monday.
Edit: Split from postgame chat thread . -SpaceBass

I'd love it! Hard part is lack of access to Skype equipment to participate.

The only equipment is a mike or headset; doesn't have to come from skype.

Right, and for that matter, if you just want to listen, you don't need either a mic or a headset, just speakers.

Oh great, Loki has taught people to use ?! to end their sentences. Curse you, Microsoft!
Yeah, there's definitely interest.

Sure, I'm interested. I love hearing from people who are obviously excited about what they do and like sharing it. And how often does anyone get a chance to talk to an astronaut? I'll be there.

Webcast thoughts

Ok I have the approval to put web cast together. Bad part is I finally got the approval last night.
I recommend getting ahold of Rob from NeoWin on this, he has done the legwork to coordinate a large webcast already. I know he also had a good means of recording.

Yes, the Neowin/UF/42 chat is going to use Skypecast.
A single individual can host it, and decide who talks when. Listening individuals can request voice status by moving themselves into a "waiting" category. The host can see this and decide when and if to voice them (e.g. a listener could move herself into the waiting category when she had a question, and after the current participant was done asking their question and talking to the guest speakers, the host would devoice the current participant and select someone in the "waiting" category to speak next). I believe that Skypecast supports up to 100 participants, but Rob should be able to tell you that for sure. All you need to participate is Skype (free program) and a headset, or speakers & a mic.
Skype also makes it fairly easy to record, I believe, as it's what we use to record the ARGNet netcasts.
Hey, mods -- for the sake of reducing confusion, maybe the Rocketplane Kistler chat should get its own thread?

Yes I have considered that. It was even the first option we looked at but since no one here has done one we have shy ed away from it. We would like this to operate as smoothly as possible. Last thing we want is to spend half the time trying to figure out new technology. Again if anyone is in the Oklahoma City area you are welcome to come to our office and be the Honorary host of this program. I am sure we MAY be able to work out some compensation. I don't write the checks so I won't promise anything I can't do.

*Phaedra nobly resists a sudden evil urge to make a joke about it not being...well...rocket science.
I couldn't help myself. Sorry.
But in all seriousness, yes, unless you have time to do a test run beforehand, probably wisest to stick with what you know.
