So rather than an implant, could it maybe be Eva's membership card/ID card for SRI that's tracking her?
Or possibly credit card, since it was logging purchases.

which city? bristol?

That would put Erwin's movements as follows (allowing room for shop names I can't figure out):

Topshop 2399 - 20th December 2006 14:03
Henne?? 999 - 20th December 2006 13:10
Habitat 1599 - 20th December 2006 12:06
Costa Coffee 211 - 20th December 2006 10:40
...etc

So, I realise all UK cities are pretty interchangable and that these brands are everywhere. But fwiw all the identified shops can be found in Bristol. I can post a candidate list if anyone cares to see. Most on whiteladies road or the city centre. Is the game actually set here, ... or just originates here in RL?

Both, actually.

As for the RFID thing - they are completely useless as a standalone tracking device. They cannot transmit on their own because they are too small to hold their own power-supply - when in close proximity to a radio sensor, that is actively sending out a signal, that radio signal serves to power the chip enough for it to send a short burst back to the sensor.

That explains why we are only seeing logs of purchases made. The RFID chip would not be able to log her precise movements along an empty street, or out in the countryside - not unless there were sensors planted everywhere along the route. Instead, we see a snapshot of data from when the RFID carrying device (probably a debit or credit card in this case) has come into close proximity of an RFID reader (a card reader in this instance).

Has anyone in Bristol considered visiting these shops? I know it's definitely a stretch, but there could be clues at those places.

They're very generic chain stores, ... I'd be suprised. If anyone's got specific things in Bristol they want checked out, I could help maybe (when I'm in town...).

Has anybody thought that just perhaps the idea behind the "credit card" is kier trying to help Eva recall her movements prior to her accident as well as point out the fact she's being tracked. The student/member ID for SRI would be a non invensive way to keep tack of the...hey...sorry formaking this a stream of consciousness post but could the black flying thing in her apartment be homing in on the chip (wherever it is) and has kier seen the video with the fliyng thing?

Heh. To me, it looked a lot like a tiny image of a leaping cat - but whatever it was, it creeped the hell outta me!

 incoming Specs

last night in chat, Derek and I had a good convo and here are some things we speced about.

1) The flying bug looks and sounds like a robotic bug, perhaps how Professor Wilson or whoever is keeping an eye on Eva. In other words the bug has a camera and can follow her either like you said by honing in on the RFID or by remote control.

2) Erwin is a ghost (geist = ghost) or at least somehow invisible in Eva's dimension and he was the one that pushed the book off the top shelf trying to get Eva to look in that direction. If she had looked far enough in that direction or had went to check out the book she would have seen the bug in the corner. If you watch the video close you can see the bug in the corner right after Eva gets up and before it starts to fly.

3) What if the video we found at http://www.subject180287.net/NLPEXP.html where Eva appears dead (eyes wide open) not just knocked out is really a glimpse of what will happen in the future if we don't somehow intervene. Or is it possible that Eva died and maybe Erwin or someone found a way to take her back in time to try and change the outcome.

4) Or is it possible with all the reference to the Wizard of Oz stuff she was knocked out and she is still out and living in a dream like Dorothy did in the WoO and that's why she can't see Erwin though he is there (I believe he pushed the book off the shelf. Eva said he loved to get on the top shelf) and some time in the future she will wake up. Maybe she was beginning to remember things (come to) is why Professor Wilson is sending her those Youshi drinks. Maybe they function to keep her in a dream like state or mind control.

I know i may not have use the best wording, but I'm sure you guys know what I mean. Sometimes i find it hard to express in words what I'm thinking.

5) As far as tracking devices, if Eva has one and if it is made by the Military or as Pat and Dave say Ministry of Defense (MOD) it could be very powerful. For this I refer you back to this

I don't agree with that.
If that's true we're either part of the dream... which is something that's obviously impossible, or she's just seeing stuff she's only allowed to see, i.e. not Erwin, which again is impossible because we would have seen him.

Great speculation, Sylvia! Some of these things are definitely plausible; 1, 2, and 5 especially stick out as things that these events are pointing towards. Good job. Smile

That tech is still utterly useless as a tracking device. The article talks about improving the capacity, at the cost of range. Where a standard RFID can be read from a few feet away, this one has to be practically within contact of the reader in order to work.

RFID chips can only ever work as a tracker, if the subject is travelling a pre-determined path. It is the only way that you can ensure the subject will pass the detectors in order to give you a reading. For example, an RFID chip in a parcel could be scanned at checkpoints to let someone know when it has been packed, loaded onto the van, sent to the distribution point, etc. You can't track people and pets with it, because there's no garuntee that they will ever come into contact with a sensor in order to set the chip off.

If Eva is being tracked with a new form of RFID that we haven't heard about yet, then it doesn't make sense that we are only getting snapshot data of purchases made - and it also doesn't make sense that Timehole haven't alerted us to the presence of such a chip.

You could well turn out to be right in some of these specs, but for the moment I think that there is such a thing as "over-analysing" a situation and missing the bigger picture.

Whats to say they don't have GPS integrated with the chips they are using? That isn't new technology.

GPS needs a power-source, which makes it far too large to successfully implant into a person or animal. GPS tracking systems currently used for animals, are usually in the form of a fairly bulky collar worn around the neck.

Re: RFDI

Another alternative is credit card tracking, or store loyalty cards, although it seems clear from game context that we're dealing with RFIDs here.

There's a new post at http://www.evamcgill.co.uk/blog/index.php?itemid=16 where she says "this information must be commonplace. I replied asking about loyalty cards, credit cards, ... since in the absence of that possibility, something funny must definitely be going on.
