Piper, I wouldn't talk about the difference between IG and OOG in DC... it's like you're describing IG and OOG while you're IG.... I think that's why the Bug Report Group got pissed at you. I've just described what credits, prestige, and karma were. I suggest comments about OOg things not even be discussed in the messaging system there.

Trace, Foo described you perfectly.... you do open your mouth before you think. Or use your fingers before you speak- whatever. Don't get mad because he called a spade a spade.

And go ahead and mess with the lil "freak. WE all know i'm the one and ONLY freak here LOL and besides, doens't she know that this game is for geeks???? (oh- use the word 'ignant'- it's ignorant apparently, i found out from my VERY ghetto co-workers)

Oh, believe me, taureanfreak, I'm being VERY careful what I say anymore. The trouble is that some of the other players would really benefit from being able to reference the stuff here, and it would mean more minds on the puzzles. But if they are going to be THAT nasty about it, I say phooey.

I mean, I understand that the whole idea is that you are in an alternate reality, but a little flexibility would be nice, especially when I'm only attempting to help another player. The thing is, though, when you've gotten thwacked enough that the alternate reality is starting to look worse than your real life, it makes you question things.

But pay no mind to me. I'm just in a bad mood, and under a lot of stress elsewhere. As I said to notgordian, I actually started playing this to relieve tension--wrong ARG to choose! Laughing

OK, so I was browsing through the Deus City forums and noticed there are two FreekAleek accounts-- #270 and 271.

I don't know if that makes the player IG or OOG...what I'm more interested in are the potential reprocussions of that. What it means is it's possible to have two accounts with the same name--I'm assuming the password information would be different.

It's not a case sensitivity issue--both accounts have identical capitalizations. Just one has 0 prestige* while the other has 11 (at the time I'm writing this).

I wrote cfreak IG to find out what's up. As is, if anybody wants to have a "Foo" account, I guess this is your chance.

I'm pretty sure that column is prestige, not credits. Far as I know there's no way to find out someone else's credit total.

But yes, very strange.

 		By the way, there's been an update to the FAQ explaining the mechanics of Credit.

You receive a 3% increase to your credit every day. You will receive a minimum of 20 credits per day, so this fact doesn't matter until people start having more than 600 credits.

 		Leaving the game
After receiving an email from the company that runs the game, I have decided that I will be leaving the game. At their request, I am not posting the email that I received from them. Suffice to say it is enough to make me feel badly about my participation. If you need any help with puzzles that you think I may be able to provide, you can PM me here.

I do sincerely hope that all of you have an enjoyable experience, and that the game designers themselves are able to have a positive experience as well. I may log in occasionally just to see how things are progressing, but that's about all.

It's been fun interacting with you all. Thank you for helping out a new player, for your patience, and for your kindness in dealing with me.

Sorry to hear that, Pied Piper; your contribution to the puzzle-solving has been invaluable. I guess the PMs didn't take too well to a bit of constructive criticism then Confused .

Can't say I blame you though. My experience of Deus City has so far been pretty disappointing and I'm also thinking of upping sticks and heading back to Perplex City. If you're still thinking of playing an ARG then you'd always be welcome to join us in PXC - either here on the Unforums or over on Perplexorum - they're both pretty friendly places Smile . Season 2 should be kicking off in a couple of weeks so it's the perfect time to join as well.

 		I'd like to add, for the new people here, that this is not common practice for most of the ARGs played here on UF.

Usually, PMs don't communicate out-of-game with players to tell them what they are and aren't "allowed" to do. Most ARGs don't really have rules for the players (beyond the common sense and common courtesy ones), and if the players do something unexpected or undesirable for the PM team, it's the job of the designers to find an in-game way to deal with it, or to adapt.

Sorry to hear that all you got for your good faith efforts to play the game was a clumsy OOG smack from its makers.

Of course, so long as they don't break the TOS here, it's up to the PMs to do whatever they want -- ill-advised or not -- but if this is your first ARG experience, it's not characteristic of ARGs in general.

Leaving was my decision. They said that if I didn't like the game that maybe I should play another one, but ended by saying they hoped I played and enjoyed the game. I just don't have the heart to do it. One thing they did mention is that part of what troubled them was not just the content of my messages but I was sending them too many messages, and they considered that abuse of the game. When I wrote back, I did tell them that I hadn't read anywhere that this was considered abuse or I wouldn't have done it.

In any case, I'm probably going to try Geist and maybe Perplex City. Both of those sound interesting. I'm sure I'll see all of you there or in some other game at some point. I appreciate all of your support. I'm just a private message away, and if you need puzzle help and you think I might have some insight, feel free to PM me here.
