A Winner Is You!

So the first thing I usually do when I get home from work is look down to the right at this little table in the entryway where the mail gets piled up. With all the people living here, it's usually covered in a mass of junk mail, bills, and things that showed up for people who have long since moved out.

But like everyone, I love getting things in the mail. The odds are that if it's not from Wilmington, DE, I'm going to open it. All of this leads up to me trying to describe the sheer and utter *joy* of laying my eyes on the plain white envelope with the Marden-Kane logo in the corner.

What followed was undoubtedly a personal best for why-is-this-stupid-envelope-in-the-way-of-my-correspondence. My eyes quickly darted from paragraph to paragraph, first confirming that yes, the letter was addressed to me. Then, the "Congratulations!" made my heart skip a beat. Account Executive Erica Valdellon instantly became my new best friend, as she was pleased to announce that I would soon be receiving three (3) Microsoft Games for Windows game titles.

All in all, it's been quite a wild ride. I look at the paper in my hands, and more importantly, feel it, as a kind of tangible and satisfying conclusion to the whole affair. After chasing this woman around the globe for a month, it's good to have something as a lasting reminder. Something that, for a change, isn't going to vanish.

.......unless the games uninstall themselves after 90 days.

A lasting Impression...
I'm a 2nd Place Winner!

I just received a visit today from DHL...A letter from Marden Kane tells me I'm a potential 2nd. Place Winner! I'll be returning the doc's by return mail 1st thing in the morning to turn "potential into actual."

Thank You MS and AMD...Thank's also to the members of both Neowin and Unfiction forums and also to the VanishingPoint Wiki Page Maker.

Special note; I want to thank you guys and gals here at unfiction for putting up w/ me as a newbie to the forum....I learned a bunch about the game and the 2 communities. I'll be baaaack.

Edited;

After reading back into the thread....No controversy here either (I'm plenty old enough to play, and play I did 1310 total points w/ only 1 referral). It was a great game and looking back I could have taken a stab early at "Ivy" being the missing L.O.K.I. name, but chose another from the list of female "Latin" baby names I posted before running off to chase down existant but totally wrong TALIN points on the world map.

On the controversial prize elements...42 Entertainment, MS, AMD and Marden Kane (the Independent Judging Organization that sent me via DHL my "Potential" 2nd Prize Notification Letter), has full right under the contest rules to disqualify the Grand Prize Winner (any contest prize winner actually), if found to be under 18 yrs. of age period.

From the VanishingPointGame Rules;

http://vanishingpointgame.com/faq.htm

"...Who can enter?

This sweepstakes is open only to individuals 18 years or older (or have reached the age of majority in Country of residence) at time of entry who are legal residents of the following Countries: Australia, Canada (except the Province of Quebec), Germany, Singapore, United Kingdom, New Zealand, Ireland, France, Italy, Spain and the United States and District of Columbia. Void in the Province of Quebec and where prohibited by law...."

But then again....They are the contest judges, not I...Just glad they chose me as a 2nd. Prize Winner.

Marden Kane...My doc's. are on the way....And that my friends is truly "Golden." Lol...I never actually got to use that which I was so convinced earlier of...until now.

OMG!
I actually won!!

I got a letter from Marsden-Kane today but I had forgotten about this and didn't have a clue what it was.

Imagine my excitement when I saw the words 'Congratualations!....you have been selected and confirmed as a 4th place winnner!'

So no affadavit for me - I just wait for my prize to arrive, which is 3 PC games.

Thanks to everyone on the forums as I don't think I'd had finished this without you all!

Microsoft and AMD Award Space Trip to “Vanishing Point” Winn
Winner will go to space courtesy of Rocketplane Limited

BURNS FLAT, Okla. — Feb. 12, 2007 — William Temple of Sacramento, Calif., will be traveling to space as one of the winners of "Vanishing Point," a unique interactive puzzle game from Microsoft Corp. and AMD to celebrate the recent consumer release of the Windows Vista™ operating system. Temple was awarded the prize today by Aaron Coldiron, lead communications manager for Microsoft, Teresa de Onis, marketing manager, Advanced Marketing Group for AMD, and Randy Brinkley, president of Rocketplane Kistler at the Oklahoma Spaceport in Burns Flat, Okla.

"This has been a lifelong dream — floating in space and seeing the Earth from above is going to be an amazing experience," Temple said. "I'm really excited I was chosen out of the 87,000 registered players online."

Coldiron noted, "We wanted to show people how Windows Vista will take computing to new heights — 60 miles up, in this case. The chance to give someone the ultimate 'vista' from space is a fantastic reward."

"This game brought to life one of the most promising and rewarding aspects of technology — the ability to bring people from around the globe together to solve shared problems," de Onis said. "The online community that grew around Vanishing Point displayed amazing cleverness, persistence and ingenuity in completing these puzzles."

The online community has been abuzz about "Vanishing Point," the latest alternate reality game: solving a series of online puzzles that led to a corresponding real-world event. The sweepstakes kicked off Jan. 8, 2007 with a spectacular custom light show in the fountain of the Bellagio Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas. The week following the launch event, people around the world discovered a new round of clues in the form of skywriting. On Jan. 20, 2007, significant global structures, including the Palace of Fine Arts in San Francisco, the Brandenburg Gate in Berlin, the National Gallery in London, the Hockey Hall of Fame in Toronto and the Victoria Theatre in Singapore, were "painted" in light, revealing clues about historic figures and times. To cap off the real-world activities, on Jan. 27, 2007, Microsoft and AMD conducted a fireworks finale on Seattle's Lake Union, drawing hundreds of people to learn more about the identity of the mysterious Microsoft Puzzle Master.

Temple will visit space in the Rocketplane XP, a four-seat, fighter-sized vehicle fitted with a delta wing and a V-tail providing good flight characteristics both subsonically and supersonically. The vehicle is powered by turbojet engines and a rocket engine, allowing it to accelerate to speeds of more than 3,500 feet per second (2,386 miles per hour) and reach altitudes in excess of 330,000 feet (60 miles), providing the sensation of weightlessness for three to four minutes. Rocketplane Limited is a subsidiary of Rocketplane Kistler.

The grand prize package includes a Windows Vista-based, AMD-powered Dell desktop PC; a 24-inch widescreen monitor; a Zune™ digital media player; an Xbox 360® video game and entertainment system; three Games for Windows® game titles; a Microsoft® LifeCam VX-6000 webcam; Microsoft Office Ultimate 2007; and $50,000 cash.

"Vanishing Point" raised the stakes in online games with tougher challenges, bigger rewards and events scheduled around the globe. Players worldwide competed for nearly half a million dollars in prizes. Representatives are available to discuss the game, the grand prize and the role Microsoft, Windows Vista, AMD and Rocketplane Limited played in the game. More information, official rules and coverage of the offline events are available at http://vanishingpointgame.com.

While the State, itself is the largest overall employer in the Sacramento area, One of the largest private employers is Intel.
Wouldn't that be a hoot?

As of 1:10pm, there's still no update on the www.vanishingpointgame.com site

Edit: My bad. I forgot the site won't have the winners list till 3/1/07.
EDIT2:
The winner is a 29 year-old Network Technician for HealthNet in Sacramento.
Pic of him at the Rocketplane facility.

Well, I worked with my dad on the Vanishing Point Game (I helped him with the puzzles), and guess what? He won! he won 3 Microsoft PC games! Ooooooohhhh Yeaaaahhhh!.

This makes standing outside freezing my CENSOR'D off in Toronto for Half an Hour staring at the Hockey Hall of Fame totally worth it! (Well, the freezing/staring stuff had no effect on my dad winning the prize. And, well, It was allready worth it because I got to hang out with TheBruce and Hojo! Sooo...yeah!)

Prizes

The Grand Prize Winner has received anything yet, he's waiting on the prizes just like everyone else. It sure is taking a while though.
