[UPDATE] Sentinel - 1 Feb 07 - Caine Arrested
small note

Quote:
CRT Scribe Arrested

Cube Retrieval Team puzzle scribe Caine Johansson has been arrested, police say. He is charged with the murder of his colleague Anna Heath, who was found dead in the catacombs under the city in late July of last year.

woot. talk about calling it a few hours before the update!

Quote:
Caine is part of 3P.
Caine gets dragged away at the lifts (acting like he was in a fight), and goes up by himself to lvl 110. He enters the 3P HQ, and being a known 3P member, asks to see Scarlett privately, to interrogate her based on some 'new info' he has discovered. He goes into the room with Scarlett and decides to self-inflict some bruises to himself (not that hard I imagine). He waits for the attack to commence. Once Helena and her people bust in and start firing, he peeps out of the closet, and seeing an opportunity, pushes one of his fellow 3P members (behind the back) so that person gets shot.

Remember the name of one of the 3P killed at Ascendancy? A senior fellow at the university. Chances are if he lived, he could have named Caine as a 3P member. His death was very convenient.

woot! I posted this in another thread a few hours ago.
Finally, now ALL OF 3P is pwned.

Someone send Caine that "neener-neener-neener 3P got owned" letter now please.

I'd love for them to make that picture of ascendancy point dark in a higher resolution, that would be an awesome wallpaper, totally awesome.

I offtopicedly agree with maniacfive.
Mind Candy? gotta high res of that pic? tis quite cool Smile

Back on topic, however. Tangentially.
I suppose season 2's cards will be made by an entirely new set of puzzle scribes.

Aiko's anti-people and people are anti-aiko.
Anna's dead
Caine's busted
Garnet will probably resume his normal job with the military
Kurt's suspended, and may wind up working fFor the cops
Tippy's .... tippy.
Von's been shoved off to school
Sente's probably not getting off easy, either.

Perhaps in season 2 we'll meet Maya (whose only known existence was some pxc promo art which looks suspiciously like aiko as a latina). I suspect violet and kurt will stay in the picture, of course. But there's some 256 new cards to be made, eh!

I didn't see the Futures ever post so:

By Madame Bianca, for the week of January 29
The Hand (January 11 - February 10)
Wishful thinking is the order of the week for you, sweet pea. You may soon find yourself consumed by a raging case of the coulda-shoulda-wouldas. Don't call it regrets, though, call it nostalgia.

The Baby (February 11 - March 10)
You may soon find yourself wishing you really did lead the kind of life you tell your parents you do. Living on the edge is about to get a lot less compelling than it used to be.

The Eagle (March 11 - April 10)
Get thee to the Old Town, muffin, and do some slumming among the consignment shops. There are some dazzling gems buried among all of those dull pebbles, if you only spend a little effort on looking.

The Spider (April 11 - May 10)
A careless comment made years ago comes back to haunt you this week. Doesn't it just figure that everyone would remember and hold you to something as ridiculous as that? Maybe you should watch what you say more carefully, doll.

The Wave (May 11 - June 10)
I'm telling you, take your date to Conundra and try the ragout of lentil, yam and raisins with duck. If you can afford it, spring for the '60 sparkler from Harbin, too. It's the surest way to get what you want.

The Archer (June 11 - July 10)
You know I love you, but pumpkin, you really need to regain your sense of proportion. Some problems are big, but some of them aren't nearly as big as you seem to think, and I swear you used to know the difference.

The Half-filled Jug (July 11 - August 10)
I so thought you had turned over a new leaf, and here I find you haring off on the wrong track all over again. No wonder your place is littered with half-finished projects.

The Dragon (August 11 - September 10)
You're in for a bunch of surprises this week, sunshine, chief among them what you do when you're put into a tight spot. Funny how you can never quite picture every possible scenario, isn't it just?

The Three Balls (September 11 - October 10)
'I told you so' may be sweet on your lips in the moment, but they sour fast once they're hanging in the air in front of you. Forego the instant gratification, doll, and remember when to bite your tongue.

The Dice (October 11 - November 10)
Stop with the self-promotion, everybody can see right through you. Why don't you work on a party skill, like showy bartending or speed origami? It'll work a lot better than you do right now.

The Maze (November 11 - December 10)
Remember to bring a hostess gift, dumpling. You may have trouble with all of the niceties that you need to remember when you're invited to such an event as this, but a well-chosen bouquet can get you forgiven for a lot of other oversights.

The Apple-Thief (December 11 - January 10)
Defer no time, delays have dangerous ends.

And remember, the most exciting point scored is the last one.

Apple Thief quote:

Is she meaning the Cube?

think I might have missed something...

Why exactly was Caine arrested again? I get why the suspicion that he's 3P or whatever, but how does this "Faberling" thing prove that he killed Anna? Suspicion, yeah I get, but still dont understand what we're supposed to be suspicious of here, that he Killed Anna, she said the word, and Caine decided to put a word he could only have heard from one place at one time in a damn song? Seriously, whats the corroborating evidence supposed to be?

I am not a lawyer, nor do I know anything about PXC's legal system as opposed to that of the USA. However, I think that the police could consider the information provided by Violet, in combination with other evidence, probable cause for an arrest. Nothing has been proven yet, so who knows what might happen if/when he is tried.

What other evidence though? All there is is Violet's testimony. Bear in mind Caine informed us before the event that he was pacing that route, so theres a fairly solid alibi for his being at Ascendency last week. Violet's the only who heard Scarlett (who was likely groggy on some pentathol derivitave) claim Caine asking her about the cube, and Scarlett, when she posted after the fact, didnt seem particularly concerned about mentioning Caine. All that really leaves is the Faberling connection, which I think is nebulous at best. I mean if I write a song called "Rosebud" does that mean I killed Charles Foster Cai... Kane? Of course not. Granted there's probably legitimate questions about how and where I heard the word, but enough to indict of murder?
I'm actually considering writing the paper, since the articles "full text" isnt available earth-side, but knowing my luck details will emerge precisely 10 seconds before I hit send.

Very good question. I have no idea. I just know that the standards for making an arrest are much lower than for a conviction, and even if they don't think they can make a murder charge stick, it does keep him safely in jail for the time being.

It's not mentioned in the Sentinel, but couldn't they also be holding him for assault? He did attack the guards (police officers?) in Ascendancy Point unprovoked, so even if he's innocent of everything else, that's a crime.

Well, way back they were able to arrest Aiko because she was a Recon and they thought the Recons took the Cube at that point. If that isn't happenstance, I'm not sure what is.

Let's ask Helena. I'm sure she has time to spare to edify us.
