So.... Played boat for like an hour, still no resolution. Just supposed to play boat for a while then? Or did I not play to the correct number to trigger something?

I believe conelrad said in his podcast that the boat site is just up for practice right now and the actual tournament starts on Friday.
I'm wondering if some of the names that came up that I was playing against are other characters that we will be interacting with later or if they're all NPCs. I played against a group where they all had full names and then against a group where it was all Parare Joes.

Yay reinstated, thanks SG.
I'm looking forward to playing some boat tonight, total n00b at poker so I expect I'll be losing big time though.

I just got my mailing last night, so if anyone's still waiting I wouldn't worry just yet. Boat is pretty fun. I've only won one hand so far, but I'm not doing too badly.

Same thing happened to me...weird. Fun game though. I'd be doing great if it weren't for a player named Susan Checks who has made it her little bot-goal in life to personally hand my ass to me at every opportunity...grrrrr!!!
Oh well, she doesn't always get the cards...
btw, is anyone else having probs with the boat page? For me, the boaty background fubars the text, making it necessary to highlight in order to read, and to start a new hand, I have to hit "quit" to get out to the start page, and hit "start" from there.

FYI, John Match (mentioned in the podcast) was a character in the first game.
EDIT:
I'm loving Boat, almost doubled my money already
! Doh! lost all my winnings by getting too cocky.

Hit the 3000 chip mark.
I sent an email off to conelrad asking if we'll start the tournament on friday with our practice winnings or if we'll all start at the same amount, just to see if I should keep practicing or not.
Just for reference in case the names do matter (or if these characters are real, so I can reference them later) these were the guys I was just playing against, although last time there were different names before I got the Parare Joe bunch:
Brian "BB Gun" Blaine
Xavier "G-Man" Parson
Brock Wilson
Chris Fuller

Yeah I think it's time for a new thread on our competition...

Good idea
Not sure if keeping track of the amounts of chips is something we can do easily? will post over there in a sec w/ the amounts on the guys I'm playing.
Edit, hours later:
Update on Mabel's website w/a task: find the lucky poker chip!

I've been thinking about the coming Tournie proper. I guess we need to get good at Boat, but also, somehow, make sure Scott wins still. I'm not sure I can work out how to help someone else win so any thoughts would be appreciated.
BTW, I guess as we are in theory working together on this, as much as I like the idea of going rogue and trying to win the mayorship for myself .( ) Should we share tips & strategies? If everyone agrees I reckon a new thread is in order.

I've been busy, so haven't been playing much of the pre-tourney boat.
I don't really know how we'll help him win, either. I suppose that'll become more clear? I assume we'll have more character interaction with more people by that point, too. I'm still a little on the fence about Scott though, Mabel seems to have a quick turn around about it, but he may still be bad news. If we wanted to be really though, we'd give it to the IRS agent!
Tips and strategies for boat and poker? I'm not opposed.
Anyone tried emailing the webmaster for the boat page? I suppose that'd be Ned?

One thing I've noticed, if you try and force the pot they seem to be able to keep up with the bidding without losing their chips. I just dropped 6000 testing that, as a result one of my oppenents now has 17000+. However the other players, who must have contributed several thousand each, started with around 1000, and still have that...
So how does that work then?

Someone was asking how we could help. Well as this is an SC Arg, it is certainly possible to not help Scott out, and take the position yourself. If you wanted to help Scott, however, if you find yourself at his table then rock the house against the other opponents and when you play scott head to head, just lose. Pick bad cards, bet high, and give him the moneys .

Yeah, you're right there, but we can only do that with our own hands, we can't control how the other players act. I think the 'lucky chip' has to come into play at some point too.
Personally, I think that one of us should take the win, and turn it over to Clarkson...Scott seems a bit too unbalanced.
But on that note, I wonder if there is more to Scott than we are seeing right now.
