Possible Trail for a "The Number 23" Arg. Possible trail regarding the movie coming out called "The Number 23".
I'm thinking the chances are about 50/50.
Here's what happened:
I was watching tv, and I saw a tv spot come on for the movie. The spot consisted of just text on the screen adding dates and random things that equaled 23.
Then about 15 minutes either a Dr. pepper, or Coke commercial came on.
(I think it was Dr. Pepper.)
The ending of the commercial was: "Now with 23 flavors."
Now. . . .I'm not so sure how many flavors the human tongue can detect at once but I think it's a lot less than 23.
Most soda only has like cherry or lime, or cherry AND lime. lol. Not 23 differnt flavors. Thats why I thought it stood out.
Plus nothing about the comercial talked about the flavors except the part where it said 23 flavors.
I'm really hoping its a not a coincidence. Cause "The Number 23" is going to be awsum!
P.S. I just heard that sprite was involved in an arg with some of their commercials. Dont remember which one though.[/b]

Dude, seriously? Dr. Pepper has had the commercials for a long time. And I mean, come on, what are the odds of Dr. Pepper and a movie company working together? Sorry, although it would be cool, it's not going to happen.

Really? Guess I never noticed the 23 flavors thing before.
And Sprite was involved in an arg, so why couldnt Dr. Pepper?

they are , to a degree
But not related to the movie. Just a coincidence. But probably good indirect marketing for each other =)
That said, yes 23 flavours has been around for a loooong time, and afaik, that is the main thing about Dr.Pepper, ever since it was created. I think they only just recently (relatively) started plastering '23 flavours' more prominently over their marketing campaign.

Not to be technical but.....
your tongue can taste only 4 (5 if you include an asian thought) - sweet, sour, bitter, salty.
your nose, however, can detect ALOT of odors.
taste + odor = flavor.
so there can be 23 flavors (unless you have no sense of smell).
But after seeing the trailer to 23, I agree you are going to find "23" in at least twenty-three places over the next hour.

I originally thought you were referring to the Dr.Pepper sweepstakes/contest thing over -> here
I also thought the 23 flavors meant that it takes a blend of 23 flavor ingredients to create the one great taste of Dr.Pepper -- yes, I'm also a customer!

I've known of the inspiration for Dr. Pepper for some time. Don't ask why.
Dr. Pepper has always been a combination of at least 23 flavors.
Pulled form the Dr. Pepper Museum site.
"Dr Pepper is a "native Texan," originating at Morrison's Old Corner Drug Store. It is the oldest of the major brand soft drinks in America. Like its flavor, the origin of Dr Pepper is out-of-the-ordinary. Charles Alderton, a young pharmacist working at Morrison's store, is believed to be the inventor of the now famous drink. Alderton spent most of his time mixing up medicine for the people of Waco, but in his spare time he liked to serve carbonated drinks at the soda fountain. He liked the way the drug store smelled, with all of the fruit syrup flavor smells mixing together in the air. He decided to to create a drink that tasted like that smell. He kept a journal, and after numerous experiments he finally hit upon a mixture of fruit syrups that he liked."
"With changing times came changing slogans. To broaden its appeal across the nation, Dr Pepper hailed itself as "the most misunderstood soft drink," and then in the 1970s became "the most original soft drink ever in the whole wide world." In 1977, Dr Pepper advertising was marked by the famous "Be a Pepper" campaign, followed by "Be You." The newest slogan out today is "There's just more to it," which coordinates with the emphasis on the 23 fruit flavors that give Dr Pepper its unique taste."

Looks like the new Air Jordans. Michael Jordan was #23 for the Chicago Bulls (Except for his brief stint as #45 after the comeback from baseball.)
That's my guess.

ah, that would make sense. What a minimalistic way of advertising " A SINGLE SHOE....23"

23 would be a terrible and mean thing to make an ARG about. The main thing about the 23 enigma is that you see it everwhere as soon as you hear about it or as soon as you start to look for it.
Imagine ARG'ers running every string of text through a binary machine, then hex then rot13 until they got something that could relate to 23.
It doesn't bare thinking about. We'd be up all night.
BTW I already started a Number23 ARG thread here . But the website has changed now and is not at all ARGish.

Okay, everyone, I don't know how we ended up with two active threads on this, but there's another one here and it's older (from November) so I'm locking this one. Please continue your discussion over there.
