[UPDATE] - Helena Frye's Personal Case Notes - 7th Feb 2007
Who is CT?

Quote:
Feb. 7, 270: You have a lot of time to think about loose ends in the hospital. The Third Power may be done for, but still no word from the one who really took the Cube. But even through that stew of drugs, I've realised - I know whodunit. I know who took the Cube, and how, and why. So I called up and we had a little chat. "It was you," I said. There was only silence from the other end. "You have to come forward," I said. "It's all over. You can either tell the world on your terms, or I'll tell on mine." And then I hung up.

Well, this might relate to what Madame Bianca said when talking of Thursday.

Looks like it could be over tomorrow. Crying or Very sad

Maybe this is a good time to re-read the "[TIAG / SPEC] What are the CRT actually *for* ?" thread from a while back. Given recent developments, some of the suspects could probably do with a bit of re-evaluation.

Just a bit! Some of what I wrote isn't looking too clever now...

HA HA! Someone's in trouble with Frye!

I bet CT is Bob. He has been so quiet during this whole thing. Most people don't even know he exists! He'd better come clean! Why Bob? Why did you do it? Why steal the cube, Bob?

In case Combed Thunderclap is 'outed' today or tomorrow (and the Cube found), I'm just going to get my last thoughts down quickly. I've been trying to reread everything we know about his/her identity and motives, but haven't had enough time to formulate anything conclusive, or even radically different. So:

Who I think it might end up being:
-Margaret Wildwood. For no brilliant reasons, really, but we were possibly supposed to know the Jurassic/forest path to take if we knew who CT was (the UK forestry commission has something called 'wild woods' but I don't see this as necessarily a great indicator - just a link). She's a little too conspicuous for my taste, but she is the head of the Centre for Reality Research anthro team, so she fills the Earth-research and CRR access requirements. Wildwood also studied with Ruth Coralhouse, who still remains intriguing - I felt Coralhouse had to know something about the disappearance of the Cube.

Who I think it should be:
-Fleming Heath. Ever since the odd Faberling conflict appeared (Anna 'swore not to tell anyone'? about a made-up pet name? Plus Caine uses the term Belgian, which is ominous, since Fleming = Flanders = Belgium). Still no word from anyone on what he does besides volunteer with the police, but Anna seemed to be involved in too many CT-related events. I was hoping she'd turn up alive to verify, but Fleming could be CT, with Anna in the know. Plus Helena would certainly know his contact number. And Kurt once emailed me back when I asked questions about him and Miranda (the old 'Carl' question), and I'm geared to think that any non-auto-response is significant, even when it doesn't look that way.
-Claire Castille. I thought it was her for ages, but I don't think Helena knows the identity of C or would be able to call her. Sadly. Her story and her father's don't make any sense timing-wise, nor are they consistent with each other. (Check on when she's supposed to have heard rumors about Viendenbourg and when she actually took on the job there, and how that would have fit in with her Cube theft work, which, bizarrely enough, was an 'odd job' to fund the Viendenbourg research? I'll update with specifics later.) She's afraid of Henry Castille for a reason, and I think he's looking for her with suspect intentions. (Perhaps the family was in the Recons/3P business for a long time. Or actually the line is not Perplexian, but originally from Viehattle, for instance.) Claire could easily have slipped something into Scarlett's bags while loading the car, and she's 'dug herself deep' almost literally. Hiding from V, yes, but possibly for more than one reason. (I often wondered if he were the missing Castille father, since he's seemingly reluctant to kill her. But probably too young, unless Claire's description was deliberately off.)
-Kostka. She entered the Recon compound at an interesting time. 'Estranged' from her husband - could have found out about his Cube theft job and taken it upon herself to alter it. Don't know anything about her previous skills, really, which is both good and bad. Helena certainly knows how to reach her, though. But also too conspicuous with her claims on Recon theft, so she's not quite the 'silent' type in that respect.
-Others: Tippy Ankron, Henrik Tanner (involved in the CT posting, not nec. the Earth trip), Lyssa Ling, Inari Ekeba, Kurt's CRR friend/Karen's possible SO Leo, Echo West, Caine Johansson (Violet's been misspelling his name, sadly; Fleming could have set him up somehow, though I prefer to think he was way in debt and was coerced into this 'odd job' - overall I didn't think of him as CT until he mentioned having no family, which struck me as either a CT or 3P thing to say. Really I don't think it's him.)

Who I think it shouldn't be:
-Scarlett, Sente, Violet, or Kurt. Violet is the only one I would possibly be okay with (fine, there is that purple bit re: CT, Lyssa Ling friendship, and her latent Reconstructionism), but I'd find it kind of a betrayal of narrative unless some really convincing explanation or really obvious clues appeared. Which in every case with these guys involves an implanted or split consciousness (in my odd thinking). Or a clone/AI. Also thought about V/Cyrus Quinton also being CT, with a similar split personality/AI or weird brain issue - why always with the figment/shadow/phantom references?) (Or CT is embedded in a chip currently. Or perhaps CT in some way is the avatar of the Djinn virus. but that's out there even for me.)

There was more, but this is already worthy of Anthony Granier on his bad days, so to be updated..

I personally think Sente is involved. He found out the 3P was going to steal the cube and did it himself, having it hidden on earth (which would make Violet or 'Lette much better candidates, then) and starting the whole CRT/Earth business to get the city to fund more PXC/Earth research and relations, furthering his passion for Earth research, as well as bringing 3P into the spotlight and eventually eliminating or crippling them.

I think CT is MC!

I think they were behind it the whole time!

How nice that they were in the right place at the right time to be the official card creators for Sente, eh? And were able to keep everyone on a wild goose chase for years!

Not enough wanion! Wink But just as fun...I much prefer spec to puzzles Very Happy ...has anyone noticed my lack of useful contribution in the puzzle department? Unless of course it involves shouting at the public...I quite like that.

I definitely agree that it shouldn't be Violet, Sente, Scarlett or Kurt. That would be boring, but I think I trust them enough by now for them not to do that to us. I'm not sure I would put money on Margaret Wildwood, I've always suspected Patrick Azadian to be 3P (or bad, or CT, never trust the Grand Vizier) but I think Sente would have noticed if he'd disappeared (having to answer his own phone etc.) so I reluctantly put my suspicions to bed.

Claire Castille is a great character and even if she isn't CT, then it would be good to see her again in Season 2. It is suspicious that she's still alive, especially as Scarlett managed to find her...to me that suggests that V should've been able to as well, though maybe he was here by then.

What was it that lead the 3P to suspect Scarlett? There has to be something that links her and the real CT that lead them to assume Scarlett. But I have not the brain to think what Smile

So why should there be only one person involved? How about Sente found out about Patrick's and others relationships with 3P and helped CT(=Patrick) to make sure the cube cannot be obtained by them so quickly.
