 		[QUESTION] How to Stop Cheating in a Treasure Hunt
I started working on a new ARG/treasure hunt (not sure if there's going to be a story yet. Still have to work it out). I don't want to give away what's so cool about it...if I go through, you'll have to wait and see Wink. But, for the purposes of discussion, assume that it will be the same thing as Masquerade, and that my identity as PM/treasure setter (if there's no plot) is publically known.

What I am concerned about is people being able to use personal information to track down the treasure without actually solving clues. Like, if I put my treasure in, say Brazil, it may be possible for somebody to see my travel records and see that my Passport was stamped in and out of Brazil in a matter of hours on a specific day, and figure out that the treasure was in Brazil. Stuff like that.

The obvious way to tackle this would be to choose a location in my country, so I can just drive or train there myself, hide the treasure, and get back without leaving any evidence. However, this would limit the search that the players would have to make and the locations I could hide the treasure.

So, the point of this topic is two things -
1) Discuss possible ways to prevent this type of search
2) Discuss how you would go about these types of searches, so I could limit the amount of evidence I leave behind.

If you need clarification or anything else, just ask, and I'll try to post something helpful.

Give it to a local friend. Have him/her mail it to the friends/relatives. Have them bury it.

 		I dunno, Brazil is still a huge country, so I am not sure how much help that would be in finding a hidden treasure. Also, wouldn't people with access to your personal stuff not be permitted to compete or win?

Yeah, if you wanted to hide an item in Brazil, you could fly into Argentina, then drive/train into Brazil, hide your item, train back to Argentina, and fly out. Then again, that's a bit complicated (and getting pricy).

I'd say it'd have to be a pretty substantial prize for someone to bother tracking your plastic/other non-cash transactions, but the people involved in some of these hunts just might have the means and inclination to do it.
