Hey, all! I've been out since the end of ILB, but I'll be watching (and hopefully participating in) this with great excitement.

Guys, if this is the end, it's been an honor.

However the '4' is not visible unless you highlight it.
I don't think it is connected, but could the author be speaking of the first text I quoted?

While the 105th Airborne comment would seem to be in line with the events surrounding L.A., Feb 4 seems wrong-- the Academy Awards always fall on a Sunday, and the 81st Annual Academy Awards, in 2009, doesn't have Feb 4 on a Sunday. Perhaps the airborne commenter was speaking from the aftermath?

Quote:
Memoriam mentions a film called Silence which is in production.

According to the plot summary (http://imdb.com/title/tt0490215/plotsummary),

Quote:
Two Jesuit priests, Sebastião Rodrigues and Francis Garrpe, travel to seventeenth century Japan under the Shogunate regime (which has isolated itself from all foreign contact) to see how the evangelical mission is going. There they witness the persecution of Japanese Christians at the hands of their own government, which wishes to purge Japan of all western influence. Eventually the priests separate and Rodrigues travels the countryside, wondering why God remains silent while His children suffer.

Not sure if that's purely for flavor/versimilitude, or if there's a hint in there.

Ah, I see.
Thanks for pointing that out, it prompted me to take a look and it turns out the Sunday before Feb 4th 2009 is Sunday the 1st.
Which is three days later.
I think you're probably right about the aftermath.

Memoriam -
Quote:

IN MEMORIAM...

The first dirty bomb went off at the Kodak Theater during the 81st Annual Academy Awards Ceremony. Over the next
half hour, eight more dirty bombs deployed by Islamic extremists spread a pall of radioactive dust across Greater LA.
Three days later a Presidential order required the entire city to be evacuated.

Yes, that's the film Smile

Again Memoriam -

For the cast & crew of Silence: it doesn't matter now, but I work for PriceWaterhouseCooper, and you would have won. Ad Maiorem Dei Gloriam

I guess that's mount Fuji, which makes sense, given the film.

PriceWaterhouseCooper - http://www.pwc.com/
Not sure how relevant that is.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ad_maiorem_Dei_gloriam
Though I believe "Ad Maiorem Dei Gloriam" is used just as a blessing/motto in this instance, not as some sort of clue.

EDIT - Tidied up post.

PWC is relevant as they are the firm that tabulates votes for the Academy Awards (hence knowing who would have won):
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Price_Waterhouse_Coopers

The latin quote seems to be related to the movie, based on the synopsis (Jesuits).

Ah, I should have Wiki'd PWC.
Thanks, you learn something new every day Smile

Yes, it's definitely in reference to the film, but what I was saying was, I don't think it's a clue.

I'm not sure if these have been edited to suggest something like Opal or if the photos used actually look like that.

Maybe I'm being silly Razz

Actually, the document from CMS/nooneimportant says it "temporarily turns the whites of the eyes black" (emphasis mine). So, probably just a coincidence. Smile

I'll be the first to admit I've never read the stand. Is my understanding accurate, though, that it ends with the "hand of god" reaching down from the heavens to resolve (I use the term loosely) the main conflict? There's obviously a visual connection to The Presence here, but also seem to be some situational similarities. Can someone more familiar w/ The Stand speculate if this is an actual reference to point us in a new direction, or just a literary reference to help establish the ARG-world's climate?

A couple of new sites were found by people over at ETS, related to http://www.securebroadcastinformatics.com/

Check the thread for more information, including puzzle solves:

http://www.echoingthesound.org/phpbbx/viewtopic.php?t=20854

Edit:

Holy cow. These people are physicists! One person logs on from "fermi", short for Fermilab (located near Chicago), which features a particle accelerator called the Tevatron. (Finally, I get to put my erudite QM knowledge to work.)

Comment by Wayne on SBI: "Can't you just use an old computer that was around like 20 years ago and just, you know, send the message to the younger version of itself?"

This combined with the comment at the very bottom, which references the EPR Paradox and an image demonstrating quantum entanglement can only mean one thing. Time travel! Smile

We now know (or can guess) why we're able to see sites from the year 0000. Sweet.

Edit 2:

I watched the chat log a couple more times and it looks like Carolina and Wayne are both in the message transmission machine (aka. tarpit) when it goes off. The team seems to have built a kind of reverse time capsule -- banned books and music to transmit. Ten bucks says they're alive in our time. Shocked

i sent an email to the one on the bottom and the auto response:

Quote:
As I write this, cops are coming to arrest me and my friends for trying to make
America a better place to live. I'm an IT specialist, they are mostly
scientists, ranging from graduate students to eminent professors. None of us
are soldiers. None of us wanted to hurt anybody. We weren't in favor of
violence-just the same free speech that used to be your right under the
constitution.

If you look down, you will see an email I got two days ago. Is this the kind of
country you want to live in? Are these the choices you want to make?

If you wanted a job here at SBI, ask yourself *which America do I want to
defend?*

If you think about that for even a little while, be careful: the cops will be
coming for you next.

Francisco Parro
IT consultant

PS I'm sorry, Elaina. If they had come to me even a little sooner, I would
have betrayed my friends to save you. Now it's too late for any of us.

Content: hidden bandwidth

>>Dear Sir:

>>>>It has come to the attention of the Bureau of Morality's Internet Monitoring
Taskforce that several of the clients for whom you handle IT seem to show
bandwidth loads that do not match their formally submitted audit numbers.

We have asked for clarification of this matter on three occasions. Your replies
have been either evasive or insufficient or simply late. Frankly, speaking as
one human being to another, it has been as bad as dealing with a health
insurance company.

>You may be aware of that frustration yourself, in the lengthy delays you have

do your very best to explain these bandwidth discrepancies.

Perhaps your wife will start feeling better soon.

the german translates to

You'll find that the German is from the famous quote by Pastor Martin Niemöller...
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/First_they_came...

For those of you too lazy:
Quote:

When the Nazis came for the communists,
I remained silent;
I was not a communist.

When they locked up the social democrats,
I remained silent;
I was not a social democrat.

When they came for the trade unionists,
I did not speak out;
I was not a trade unionist.

When they came for me,
there was no one left to speak out.

Als sie mich holten,
gab es keinen mehr,
der protestieren konnte.

Is the last stanza. Smile

quick version: the insert in the HDDVD contained three bits of text - secure, broadcast, informatics.

people googled or played about with variations and suffixes

once the main site was found people played with the draggable elements, reforming them into a login in the middle of the page. pay close attention to the password box as you drag it Smile

Ooh. Interesting. (And, I think, an even more concrete reason for all this stuff to filter back to us than, say, we saw in ILB!)

The chat is just frightening.

Quote:

Yikes! Yeah, that's the impression I got from Carolina, though I'm not sure about Wayne. Though if the repeated messages are any indicator, then yeah-- both Wayne and Carolina are a little out of wack with the time stream.

Of course, if they *did* make it back, that implies we have some character interaction to look forward to.

Of course, I'm also wondering what other banned books/music we're supposed to see. And who, I wonder, are they talking about when they talk about sending back music who's still alive and kicking? That is, who is it that disappeared in jail? Maybe it doesn't matter.

The discussion threads on the left are also fascinating-- especially the following links:

Mallet Rings
EPR Subsystem
Power
Com

The first three links reveal this:

Current Status: Stable
Security: High Risk
Notes: freeze all activity till Carolina is clear

The last one (Com) gets us this:

Current Status: Stable
Security: Good
(EDIT)Notes: Frank will relay Carolina. Stay on the channel until the test is complete.

Interesting. Oh, and I picked up on this dark gray text in the background:

24.19.2

Finally, I found from ETS that you can actually grab the text by plugging in the first names of the links as pages (sympathetic.htm, workarounds.htm, comm.htm).

So... is that why all of the websites are so funky looking? Because they're being sent from the future? Or... Oh my head. Shocked Crazy, crazy.
