Aww thank you, I'm glad you like the write ups, they did take rather a while to do!

I thoroughly enjoyed both nights, would look forward to similar happening in the future.

Thanks again
(I really should learn to log in Wink )

The prize, I think, was what motivated a lot of people to play PXC that were outside the UK. The puzzle cards not really having any inherent value, distribution issues, and all the events taking place during evening GMT hours (aka, during normal work hours here in the US) made it really hard to justify playing outside of the prize. Honestly, I think I'm just going to be spectator during Season 2 because of those same reasons. Love the game, but oh.so.very.hard.to.play.here .

I have to say that I played the game with the realisation that I had a snowball's chance in hell of finding the cube first.

As for finding hard to play, last season I happened to be away when all the cool big events happened and having live events between 3am and 5am doesn't help. My wife wasn't too impressed when Kurt SMS'd at 2am one time (didn't bother me though).

Having said that, I'm not complaining about it because I understand that most of the players are in UK and the US. I definitely will get more involved in Season 2 even if it means a few late nights/early mornings.

My only wish would be the MC promoted the game more in Aus.

I have to admit, I'm really disappointed that the Cube turned out to be in the UK. From the moment the last clue was given, even if an American hopped on the next plane out, and went in a near straight line to where the Cube was buried, I think they would have been trying to wrestle it out of Rand0m's hands. There really wasn't a chance for someone in the US to find it. So booooo to the claims of "US friendly".

I think I'd have needed about 3 days lead on the locals to get there first! Shocked

I'd also like to say Rand0m that I thoroughly enjoyed your story and live chat that other morning night.

Only just saw this, and tbh, I think that's a naive attitude, as the game is very friendly to those around the world. Ok, maybe you couldn't fly out to find the cube itself, but you can play every other aspect of the game pretty much. In my opinion, finding the cube was a small part of the game, the large part is the ARG and the puzzle cards, and indeed the community spirit of working together. So with that said, I think the game was VERY US friendly even through being based in the UK.

So, if all the yankees are complaining, I've got to say the game was not German friendly. Wink

Well, no. I liked it this way, although I was tempted to jump on a plane and join the search. And therefore I need to back SB here. I can't think of any way, how this could have been implemtented better.

Well, another revelation which might be hard for some US gamers: "The US is not the center of the world, you know."

Now beat me. Very Happy

I think if people in different time zones and different continents are saying it was difficult for them to play then that's not something to be swept under the carpet (notwithstanding what I said earlier about Team Alice, where shares of the prize could easily have been on their way to the States and Australia). I do wonder whether that's part of the reason (alongside organisational difficulties) why s2 isn't going to be a treasure hunt.

Ultimately, the Cube could only be in one place, and a lot of players were going to be arbitrarily ruled out of winning because of that. Mind Candy's challenge has always been to produce a game that those players, too, would enjoy. A lot seem to feel they succeeded. Those who didn't feel that way have important feedback to give for s2 Smile

Perhaps if there had been more success in solving the puzzles, (instead of guesswork), then the international-ness would have played out differently. It is, in a way, a lot easier to set up cross-continent collaborations if you have a good idea of where to go looking, at least. I'd say UK players were definitely advantaged in terms of the whole being-able-to-get-there-quickly, but maybe that's a result of the sheer amount of prompting we needed...

I think S2 will suffer a little but gain a lot from this experience. Not having the "grand prize" aspect will certainly take a little of the "whoa" hook out (which, despite definitely playing for the fun, was still pretty impressive), but on the plus side will keep us all on a more equal footing Smile

Looking forward to a much more international field of players, even it was nice to have a UK-centric ARG for a little while Wink

[Edit to add...] Oh, forget to talk about the chat, heh. Was anyone else hoping for more information about how the CT puzzles were supposed to be solved? Will we be getting this info at some point?

Two simple fixes:
1. Online events should be done on Weekends.
2. Card releases should be timed, not by when they can be shipped, but by when the cards can be delivered to the stores worldwide. Stockists in the UK will just have to learn how to sit on their cards and wait.

Just to clarify:

I don't want my earlier reply to be misunderstood -- I always felt it was appropriate for the Cube to be in the UK, since that's where MC is based, and where more of the PXC players seem to be located. I just selfishly wished more fun stuff could happen for me across the pond because I lovelovelove PXC so much! Very Happy

I know the US isn't the center of the world. But I'm the center of my world. And in my world, PXC should show up at my door once or twice a week with puzzles and cookies and wine. Wink

I doubt "all" the US players are complaining. I'm sure many folks played the game for the ARG & the puzzle cards. Most ARGs are *not* about prizes or winning, they are about the story, the interaction, the thrill of the update or the email contact, the community...and I'm sure *most* figured out that a game hosted by a UK company would have the cube buried in the UK (duh!).

MC created a rich Alternate Reality universe with PXC and should be congratulated for all their hard work. How amazing to put out newspapers, put on live events, even create artwork likenesses of players to help bring them *in* to their world.

While I ended up not playing, I still lurked now & again (and I have a full set red -purple, 2/3rds of the blacks and a few silvers - all without scratches so I have 0 pts on the PXC board) and know how deep MC went with this world. My hats off to your tenacity & creativity. And, again, congratulations to Rand0m.

woo. Party with Andrea; chat with Rand0m?

I forgot to note that Andrea is available to do a party with us here in New York. So, let's try to figure something out? Next week is ARGFest and this week has been really jammed up for me, but sometime in March?

Also, chat in #syzygy with Rand0m? Woo. Let's get that done as well.
