Save VT?

I'm still not sure what I'm supposed to spoil-tag, so I'm gonna cover up all of this post. Just to be on the safe side.

Spoiler (Rollover to View):

From a comment left on Fred's latest entry:

Quote:

Wilhelmina said...
Fred, I told you, you're not to go spreading lies on the internet. If your mother were alive, she'd be very disappointed with you.

I told you, you're not supposed to go to the cliffs. When I find you, lad, you've got a problem on your hands.

February 17, 2007 11:23 AM

Clicking on Wilhelmina brings you to her profile, which leads to her blog, which is at http://savevt.blogspot.com. This has one post:

Quote:
I'm Sorry...

You'll have to excuse my nephew, if you don't mind. He's a bit touched in the head... there is no Organization. Our town is fine.

He has this thing against vermont... don't ask me. We try to keep him away from people as much as possible.

How did I do? I'm still trying to figure out posting conventions and things like that... did that work for everyone?

Good, except for the fact that on my browser (firefox) quotes using quote tags INSIDE a spoiler show up. (No big deal, I was just about to check the blog there myself.) Not sure if that's a browser issue or what, but one thing you can ALWAYS do is preview your post. Other than that, good job and welcome! I'm going to have to check this stuff out now.

Interesting. Wilhelmina's email address is savevtSPLATgmail, and Freidrich's is stopvtSPLATgmail. Interesting choice of address names.... Already we have two factions, both appear to have germanic names, Fred's mother is no longer around.

I sent her a generic email, commiserating about troubled teens, but threw in a question about what to see and/or do if I ever make it up there.

I noticed the first comment there was deleted- did anyone see it?

I'm wondering if there's a connection between this game and the Beast of Black River game that ended last week or whenever... I heard about that on the ARGN netcast so I read through the threads.

That was about a town in New Hampshire, just like Welcheburg, under the thumb of an evil Organization. It was about a boy who tried to take down the organization with his friends.

Does that sound familiar?

Just wondering... Smile If we see a beast attack soon, we'll know.

Yeah, this has "beast" prints all over it. That one crashed and burned in a very novel way. He had a great story and potential for something really fun, but there was just no depth to the whole thing as it unfolded...or stagnated, really.

Working on the assumption that this is from the same PM as BBR, I would certainly not write the guy off. I thought he had some great ideas, and I really liked the storyline. Hopefully, he was able to learn from the problems that came up in Beast (both from the development side, along with some other crap that was outside his control), and put together something a little bigger and better. Implosions aside, I still think it's really cool that he and the other "grass-roots" PMs go through the effort to put these together for us. Wink

Got a reply, but it's in morse, and I can't find any good morse decoders or alphabet lists. (The one linked on unfiction is down, apparently.)

So, for someone who CAN decode it:

Quote:
.--- ..- ... - -.- . . .--. .-- .- - -.-. .... .. -. --. - .... . -... .-.. --- --. .-.-.- .-.-.- .-.-.- .. ' .-.. .-.. . -- .- .. .-.. -.-- --- ..- .. ..-. .. -. . . -.. .... . .-.. .--. ..-. --- .-. .- -. -.-- - .... .. -. --. - .... --- ..- --. .... .-.-.-

I'll be sending an email to his aunt as well. Given that I was a troubled teen not too long ago, I'm going to try offering some sage words of wisdom.

Yeah, quotes inside spoilers don't seem to work. I'm not sure that what danashulps posted needed to be spoilered anyway. It wasn't really a solve, just additional info. I'm off to check out Wilhelmina's blog now!

Hey peeps, just wanted to let everyone know that there is a new post from stopvt.....

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
It is hex for : The reason I mentioned being by the cliffs is, I went to sleep in my bed, and woke up out by the cliffs. I don't remember whatever happened to me in between. I know it had something to do with the organization, I just don't know what yet. Now, about the Organization. They are masquerading as a furniture company called "Vetonil Furniture". You can contact them at (603) 294-4721 or Vetinol.FurnitureSPLATgmail.com .... They also have a website, but I dont remember the address right now.

Curiouser and Curiouser....

I sent Fred a message asking him how much longer he had the Organization paid off, and he sent me this reply:

Its not money... Im earning protection by turning people in for doing things against the Organization... I know its bad, but it's the only way to keep them off my back.

ALSO:

Welcheburg is German for some castle, so I checked out Google for castle and New Hampshire. There is a New Castle town in New Hampshire, but there are other possibilities. Check out this link It is a castle, and near cliffs (It's actually on the side of a volcano).

Think this might be an avenue to explore. (There are other castles in New Hampshire on that guys page but that looked itneresting enough to check out.) Nothing back from Evil Auntie yet.

I will call the company tomorrow and email them later tonight after dinner.

Hi all,

I just got an e-mail from Vetinol furniture.

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
Hello,

I am Kathy, with Vetinol Furniture. We would like to dispel the rumors going around about us. We are not an "Evil Organization", we do not make people disappear, and if you have any questions, you may call us at (603) 294-4721. Thank you for your time.

Which is strange as I never e-mailed them

Actually April if this is the same person that created The Beast of Black River, I would completely and totally write him off for the disgustingly immature way that he ended BBR.

Sorry, there are certain respects that you pay to your players and to not fess up to mistakes and actually fake your death ... unforgivable in my eyes.

Just my 2 cents

Yeah, I can see where you're coming from. If I was at all invested in the game, I would have been pissed. I know I'm the minority in my point of view. If I was on the outside looking in (as were most experienced ARGers who took a pass on this early on), I would have been thoroughly annoyed, because, it really did look like a situation of an unprepared PM deciding he wasn't having fun anymore. Rolling Eyes At least, that was my take on it.

However, at the point we were at with this one, there were barely a handful of us left...4 maybe?...and it was pretty clear that we were all pretty much walking away from it. So, when it all came apart, I think most of us were thankful for the clean cut. As far as faking his death, the way it was portrayed made it obvious to the few still following along that it was still part of the ARG...the last chapter basically. Not the most conventional way to ax the thing, but oh well, it ended, right? Laughing

But all that aside, I think BBR was his first and last "strike"...at least as far as I'm concerned. If this one implodes in the same way, he'll have no credibility left. Not only will that keep people away from what ever looks like his doing, he will unfortunatly cause the same trouble for any other PM who may use similar story lines, writting styles, etc...which will be the real problem, imo.

Phone numbers? I'm in.

I ran a quick search for Vetinol Furniture and found nothing. Ah well--might be so new that it hasn't been cached by Google yet.

The phone number originated from Portsmouth, NH.

I called.

All I got was four rings, then an answering machine. "Hello, you've reached Vetinol Furniture. We're sorry, but there are no associates available at this time. Please leave your name and phone number, and we'll call you back."

However, I didn't leave my name or my phone number. I made sure to hide my phone number. (Which is sad, and I hate doing it, but my parents probably don't want me giving out my phone number.) So... It looks like people who leave their numbers are going to get called later. Smile
