Site down - Why?

Does anyone know what is going on with the site and when will I be able to solve again.? I was on the site last night and my points total completely disappeared, is this happening to everyone? It's so annoying, I only got to solve two cards and I don't know if I have got points for either of them.

I think they're running across more problems than they thought of. Remember how any solve with a dropdown menu was broken? And the comments were all out of order and popping up for the wrong puzzle?

Maybe they're sorting EVERYTHING. No sense in doing half a job, so to speak, even if it's finished late.

The real game doesn't start for another month anyway, over at www.perplexcitystories.com

Shouldn't these problems have been sorted before opening the site for solves?

That's good, but where do you find out how many points you have got and your place on the leaderboard?

Well, yes and no. When you're launching a site you always hope it will stand up but you don't really know until it actually goes live. All the testing in the world won't entirely prepare you for what happens when real people flood in. And if the likely demand is front-loaded, with everyone wanting to get onto the site in its first moments, you really do have to cross your fingers and hope to a certain extent.

For problems caused by sheer volume of requests, yes, there's not much that could be done except hoping... but for things like drop-down answers not working in IE there's simply no excuse for not testing that on a private server before putting it live.

Considering how polished the cards themselves are, and the puzzles and the ARG, and even the old site, the new site has been a continuous disappointment.

I agree, there are too many bugs. I am solving my cards now and hoping that I am getting points for them because there is no way of knowing, the points meter on my profile has gone

Yeah far too many bugs. Its almost as if they haven't done any testing at all. Big disappointment so far

It's a bit silly not being able to see how many points you have until you reach the top of the leaderboard, why have they changed this feature from season one?

Give them a break

Cmon. Give MC a break.

I've been lurking a few topics just like this, complaining about site being down, not being able to 'enter' solves, not being able to be the 'first solve.' I don't dispute the fact that it's important to a lot of people to see their names up on the leaderboard, or to have fame as the first solver of certain cards... but aren't we forgetting why we've come here in the first place?

To enjoy puzzling, solving puzzles from 1-minute quickies to long-hours of distraction. We bought the cards because we want to enjoy solving them -- for that "AHA!" moment when you finally get the solution that's been evading you since you read the puzzle.

The points are just something to make us feel we're doing something. Depending on your standing, it tells us we've got more puzzling to do, or maybe less.

I sincerely hope you paid your quids / dollars primarily because you enjoy solving the puzzles. And I hope you enjoyed solving the cards, and getting that AHA! moment.

If yes, then you got your money's worth. The points / leaderboard / first solve are just a bonus. It shoudn't bother you too much.

If not, then there are probably better places to gain fame on the internet that won't cost you as much as buying a set of PXC cards.

I'm not trying to make a statement here. I just wanted to share my opinion is all. I sincerely apologize if I may offend anyone, and be assured I did not mean so. I humbly accept that your opinion may be different, and may be valid for you. But I thought I'd just put a different voice out there.

Despite my frustration, I have to kind of say I agree. I feel a bit sorry for MC as I'm sure they've been working very hard on fixing things and getting stuff sorted out. When Season 2 started there was bound to be high demand which would inevitably crash the server and database initially.

I'm sure MC will slowly sort everything out, and in the mean time we just need to enjoy the cards and be patient! Razz
