[White District]Noted[SOLVED]
in Fujimoto Park

Quote:
Recently a DefenseCorp agent who is running operations against the alledged Underground identified and tailed known Underground sympathizer. The man was spotted sitting in the park, writing something on a pad of paper. All of a sudden, the agent received a message on his datapad, looked visibly shaken, tore up the note he was working on and threw it in the garbage can, and rushed off to his car. The tail was able to recover the note. Data processing has provided a photograph of the note, which obviously contains a coded message and we need you to decode it. You must be precise. The TIA counting on you.

This puzzle lets you send the answer to the Underground. (sweet).

This looks like a variation on the good old pigpen cipher. Trying to crack it now Smile

Had a confirmed solve on this one - here's the working method in hint form for those who'd like to solve it themselves:

Hint 1:
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
As Agent Lex pointed out, it's a variation of a pigpen cipher but it uses diamond shaped grids rather than the usual square-shaped noughts-and-crosses grid (or tic-tac-toe, if you prefer Wink ). It uses 3 grids - 1 blank, 1 with a minus sign and 1 with a plus sign.

Use frequency analysis to find the 2 most common letters - these correspond with the most common letters in the English language - see here for details. From those you should be able to work out the first and then the last word. Now you have several letters, put them into the grids and you should see a pattern start to form.

Hint 2:
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
The pattern is: A in the topmost section of the blank grid, B in the topmost section of the minus grid, C in the topmost section of the plus grid, D in the top left section of the blank grid and so on. From here you should be able to work out all of the letters.

Solution:
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
'the west docks are secure make drop tonight'

And you get the option of sending it to Defenscorp or, via a hack, to the Underground

If anyone is like me and refuses to try hints, you might make use of this site as it allows you to input letters and placeholders for letters and generates lists of all the words in the english language that could fit.
