[EMAIL] [CHAT] Brian Wilson, SRI
Interaction to follow
Event from Fri Feb 23, 2007 3:00 pm to Fri Feb 23, 2007 4:00 pm

Dear Jonathan,

All things considered, I have decided to forego the whole SRI placement examination process. I am tired of bureaucracy, it merely wastes time and that is one thing we have very little of. I will therefore come straight to the point. I hereby declare that you are a student of SRI and here is your first assignment.

As you may be aware, one of your fellow students Eva McGill has recently gone missing. I believe that the only way we can rescue her is by pooling our resources and pulling together as one.

Please join me in the private SRI chat room, which can be found at

http://www.sri-uk.org/cgi-bin/chat/chat.cgi

We will meet there at 19.00hrs GMT, Friday 23 February 2007.

Welcome to SRI and I look forward to meeting you.

Yours sincerely,

Bryan Wilson.

I got the same note.

So cool!

(META: Thank you, PMs, I love you! So cool that everyone has a chance for a live event even if they're not nearby. This is my first ARG, and it's fantastic.)

GMT?

All right, so maybe I'm completely daft or maybe it's the week long flu I've had, but I don't know what time 1900 GMT is in the Eastern time zone. Is that 4:00 or 2:00 p.m.?

Thanks.

As an American living in London, I have to do these conversions all the time!

It's 7 pm in London, 2 pm on the East Coast US, and 11 am on the West Coast US. Figure it out for yourself if you're in the flyover states!

Make sure that your profile is set to the correct timezone (Profile > Internationalization) and the calendar entry in this post will automatically translate it for you.

I'm working from home tomorrow, and 7pm is after work anyway. This means I'll be on a poky dial-up, but if there is a way to save the chat session, I'll do so and post it online.

The boyfriend unit is going to be very cranky when he finds out that I have plans that don't involve pints on a Friday night!

True, true, I know that, and you know that, but you underestimate his commitment to pints!

Just FYI, you need to register a nickname and stuff, so you might want to either go a few minutes early or do it in advance.

Hm... I never applied to SRI because it required me giving out my phone number and address, something which I am (unfortunately) not allowed to do.

Anyways, I registered in the chat program on a whim, and it let me register. Do you think Wilson will notice if I sneak into chat tomorrow?

No, this has clearly nothing to do with being a student. He just knew who to turn to if he was going to have any chance on finding Eva.

Rekidk, I think not giving out your name and contact details is a really good rule.

I get the impression that all of these bits--the cards, the emails, etc., are, in a way, intended for us as a group. I am sure it is fine if you log into the chat, and participate just as if you got an email.

ISSUE / REQUEST

okay guys... here is my issue.

Normally, in chats like these with chars, someone records and posts the chat log for those of us who cannot be there.

there will be no chat log. the chatroom {i tested with it} does not get a scroll bar. you cannot see older info - it just deletes it. {DID THAT MAKE SENSE?}

My request is, if someone is going to be there, could they please PLEASE please copy and paste AS IT IS GOING ALONG into a word/notepad file and just attach it here afterwards? This is a biggie, as it may have an impact on that persons interaction ability. Also, since it may have an impact, and i would hate for three or four different people do be doing this and missing out, could whoever is 100% going to be able to do this post here and say so?
