Got any questions for the Geist PMs?

I understand that there will not be a post-game chat for Mei Geist, but Phaedra, speaking for ARGNet, asked me to put up a notice for anyone that has any questions for the Geist PMs to send them to ARGNet, as they are in contact with the PMs and will try and find a way to get some of them answered.

.... or you can post questions for them in this thread so (as suggested by Pixiestix), we're not all sending the same questions into ARGN, seeing what other players are asking might spark follow-up questions, and ARGN can refer to this thread. (Hopefully, that makes it easier for all involved.)

this is three or four

How did you pick Montauk? I live in NY and I have spent some great time on the beach there, but you all seem to be from the UK.

Which I guess brings a bigger question - Did you see any differences the way players approached this game based on where they lived? Or any other cultural differences that you used in your design as the game evolved?

What inspired you to make this game?

What did you learn from the game that you didn't expect when it started?

Uh, well... I had already sent questions to the Netcast people before any of these threads were created. Sorry 'bout that.

Here were the questions that I had already sent:

1. What was the role of 'We Love Beef' in the overall narrative of MeiGeist?

2. The characters were well played in videos, email, and on message boards. Did the actors/actresses play their parts not only on video but also in email/message boards (to keep consistency)? Or was someone else writing for them? The reason I ask this is because Eva, Pat, and Dave all acted in their emails/forum posts just as they did in the videos.

5. It's a burning question for me--what was the purpose of the Erwin and Professor image, and why did it appear to be manipulated to cover up the white nose of the cat?

6. Why were there 8 links on the Montauk page?

7. Could you explain what we were supposed to glean from the file on the benzodiazepan receptors in Eva's brain?

8. What were the things you found most difficult in your role as PMs for this particular game?

9. Were there any things that you expected to be difficult for you, but which turned out to be easy?

10. Were there any things that you expected to be easy for you, but which turned out to be difficult?

TO THE MODERATORS (and Pixiestix!): Thanks for doing this--what a great idea!

Montauk is big in the world of conspiracy theory, though not as much as say cropcircles, Area 51, or the Philadelphia Experiment.

I'd never heard of the Montauk Project. I'd read about some of the kooky stuff going on at Camp Hero and Fort Bragg and I'd heard some kind of twisted version of the 'send a battleship into another dimension' somewhere, but I didn't realise how much lay beneath the surface Wink

Anyway, I thought of a question for Hazel and Jon... I'd like to know if the mentions Yuki made of VALIS, The Matrix etc etc were intended as part of the game fabric or whether they were, as Jediwannabe spec'd, leftover easter eggs from the original script for the bot.

Um... and another one; meiGeist encouraged a collaborative ethos among players, how much did the process of developing the game reflect that?

Did we discover all the content or was there anything we missed?

Actually, I have a million questions - Kurt and Joe, why? - parable? what parable? - NLPEXP, eh? I say, eh??? I still don't get what that was meant to be, I don't understand anything about that at all Razz

I was wondering if the parable they referred to was "Apocalypse Cow."

I'd like to know how much impact we had on the telling of the story. If, for example, they had to change something because we had uncovered a flaw - or if they took some of our meandering specs and thought "Hey! That's a great idea, I wish I'd thought of that!" and then incorporated it into the story.

Also, what was the relevance of Schroedinger's cat in relation to the overall story?
