Yeah, I'm with both of you. It seems strange to me how so many coincidences relating to Gaiman's mythos have come up. I have been reminded of American God's in several different instances, as well as The Sandman.

Like when Love mentioned this might lead to humanity meeting all gods ever imagined- that made me think of American God's instantly.

Could be pure coincidence though.. but I think the PM is getting inspiration from his works if nothing else.

Gaiman books

Actually that makes a lot of sense now. I know its a comedy, but I'm going to look at Good Omens in wikipedia to see if anything comes of the Crowley connection there.

Edit: I didn't see anything there, and I recall nothing from my reading of the book.

Gaiman tie in...
well they are making the Sandman movie right now

but they are still in production, and this ARG is too low budget to be a marketing thing.

But I do agree that there are similarities in this story to Gaiman's.

Hmmm... I thought this b4, but today I was feeling the urge to post something about the similarities. and lo and behold, other people are already thinking the same thing at the same time. I think there's a bit of a collective unconcious going on here.

Gaiman would not open himself up to the potential lawsuits that could arise, should this be connected to him. He's far too smart for that. There's been too much that's happened that would be bad, at the very least reputation-wise, for someone big-name like that to be behind this.

It's more like the PM is taking his/her inspiration from Gaiman....

...as well as Lovecraft, Greek Mythology, urban legends, and just anything creepy that appeals to him/her. Then he/she is just connecting all the pieces into a grander story.

My problem with this is: what exactly is the game? or How is this story actually interactive? I mean, yes, one can interact with a character on the HC forum.... But it all seems too... spoonfed (?)

I mean he reveals some exposition, there's a game of twenty questions and speculation, he reveals some more of the story... yada yada yada.

Don't get me wrong, it was all very engaging at first. But I'm finding my interest waning... I hope this isn't all there is to this.

I don't believe Gaiman is behind this, it's not his style, but I think that the PM is definitely taking some of his cues from Gaiman's mythos.

I've wondered if actually Grant Morrison is (comic fans will know how I'm talking about), but this kind is too weird even for him.

Yep. He acknowledged he's the avatar of Father Paranoia, so our collective.... er... paranoia?... er... summoned him. Ooooh, I wonder what'll happen next.

Hm...

I know this post is long and tedious... ah well...

I've just been watching this whole thing, not actively participating. All the same - I have read most of the posts. I know that this has been tossed around quite a bit, but perhaps it really isn't an ARG. There is an extreme lack of puzzle.

Is it an alternative means of storytelling? It's not really so alternative, really. Like a writer who publishes a chapter in each edition of a literary journal, you sit and just wait for the next thing to arrive. Then they give you another part of the story. I may be wrong, but it seems that when people have tried to contact a PM, (for example when HC went down) they have been unable. The in game character denies that it is a game, of course. But nobody will admit that it is one. NOBODY. If this was a pro project, there would be someone (obviously it isn't - moot point). Big companies have a lot of liability stuff to deal with.

So - NOT an ARG, probably not a story, we've concluded that it's also probably not a social experiment (read earlier posts). Is it some bizarre cult thing/some guy messing with us/someone with serious issues? Who the hell knows?! I wouldn't get really really involved just in case... but that's just me. Does it even matter?! As long as you don't do anything REALLY stupid, it's just fine to make it whatever you want. Many of you are probably miles and miles away from each other anyway. If playing along with someone who you think might be a bit off of their rocker is a problem for you, and you don't like things that keep you up night after night, then DON'T DO IT. Obviously the people at HC don't have a problem with it.

Personally, I think that if it is a game, it's really kind of mediocre. Very few puzzles and whatever. Despite this, I must admit that I'm interested in finding out what comes of this. It sure does have "creepy factor." But people, please bear in mind that in this kind of game (if it is one), it is totally possible to be taken advantage of. Don't just dismiss that because it seems to be unlikely. It DOES happen from time to time.

I just wanted to say that. Thanks for reading.

the Dead Kids Foundation, really far fetched speculation:

Are the guise of the nine good muses. they want info about the videos, have videos and ways that make us entirely un-afraid and some are even chuckle-worthy.
