More info on Video #7

I just thought I'd post this. This is what posted the yesterday on the YouTube link.

Video #7
A promise from my former has failed to have been kept. He was IT. He's Gone, too.

I just went over there to watch it again and saw this added.

The subject that showed the most Fear the night of the Ritual has been tapped on the shoulder.

More to follow.

Honestly, I think somebody is trying to gamejack it and make it legit and Something Awful is trying to squash the jack by playing it off as another one of their dumb pranks to Unfiction. I decided to do a bit of comparing. The original 6 to this new one I've came to this conclusion.

The 7th video is slightly different. Notice that the heads move more fluidly, not choppy like before. Also the backmasking audio at the end is pretty much crystal clear, before it was compressed sounding. The message " We Are Returning" and "Will You Accept This?" seem to be like some sort of announcement than a cryptic message.

Again, I might be wrong about this but it's something I want to throw out there for consideration.

i am pretty sure this arg is legit but was screwed over badly when sa became involved. this is, personally, what i think happened.

1. sa discovers the game.
2. sa finds the thread where that admin says his password has "gay" in it.
3. somebody uses one of those programs that goes through a list of possible passwords to hack into his account.
4. that guy from somethingawful proceeds to post a bunch of stupid stuff under ilovetofix's name while he's away.
5. ilovetofix comes back to the forums post-prank and panics.
6. ilovetofix tries to fix the arg by doing that stupid detective thing everybody hated. (this one's iffy)
7. ilovetofix posts the code in hopes of garnering interests once more.
8. this new post is put up in another attempt to restart the game.

i really think something awful (or at least a few of its posters) screwed everyone over, pm included.

I hope this game has either be reinvented by another party or fixed due to gamejacking by SA. It creeped me out pretty good and the videos were a great touch. Heck, it caused me to join the unfiction forums.

I am gonna go back and give it a shot.

Edit: Oh wow, there is a new huge post describing how SA did steal the boards. The forums have also been reopened for posting.

Isn't it a Roy Orbison song?

No, it was a prank from the start. One of the goons was a plant. They were involved from the beginning.

I think what's happened is that someone (probably another goon) took over and is trying to be legit. However, I don't trust the game enough anymore to get involved again. Fool me once, and all that crap.

things seem to be getting interesting again. maybe it was originally a prank, but it seems like someone has taken it and turned it into a legitimate arg.

and even if it is another prank, at least i'll be prepared this time.

I doubt it was a hoax in the beginning - i think there was far too much effort put into it to be a hoax.

I posted on HC and offered Love my help if he so desires. We'll see how this turns out.

I find it hard to believe that anyone accepts the explanation that the SA/"'Twas all for boners" 'incident' was genuinely a result of hacking...

I go away for a while and look what happens Laughing

Well, it looks like things are back on. I'm glad that they are because Wyoming Incident introduced me to ARG's and the Unfiction forums. Maybe a smaller group is what's needed for this "game".

Here's hoping that things pan out and it doesn't turn out to be for bonerz again. April 1st should be a good projection as to whether it is or not.

Does anybody else think that a new Restart thread is needed?

i say we wait until after april 1st to see if this is a prank and then start a "rebirth" thread.

after thinking about this and looking around on sa, i'd have to say i think that somebody new is now controlling the game and turning it into an actual arg. args seem to be pretty popular on sa going by their "year zero" thread.

I don't really think of this is a "prank", more like an interactive story that the maintainers just got tired of. A "prank" would be if they had actually convinced some credulous individuals that the whole thing was 100% real. If it was intended to be a prank, somebody needs to look up "prank" in the dictionary, or otherwise "Avenue Q" is a prank designed to convince people that there are really debauched muppets living in Brooklyn.

I'll be paying attention to the HappyCube forums for a little bit, but my participation will be limited. No driving to random locations in Indiana, or for that matter more than 20 miles where I live. Also I'm a little disturbed by the fact that this may be getting dangerously close to viral marketing; the mention of "Yellow Field" and "Dana McKearney" (who are both, as far as I can tell, fictional) seem like this is supposed to be a lead-in to a book we're expected to buy.
