Poll: Should I open the Season 2 boxes today? What do you think?

I'm a little surprised you're considering it. I say only a little, cos hey, it's season 2! But like, I'm not sure what the consequences to you might be. I would suggest asking Mind Candy, if anything. I'm not sure of all the rules of wholesaling, but I'm of the impression there's a sort of trust between you and the manufacturer to not kill their suspenseful release dates. We can wait just a bit longer and all will reveal itself.

Over at the Perplexorum they seem firmly against it. Which is funny cause I don't remember them holding off opening up their packs on the Saturday before the last wave release when Firebox sent out the cards early.

speaking from experience it feels awesome being able to get something before everyone else, until the guilt sets in.. then it's just not worth it
but more importantly.. mine didn't even ship yet! =(
(and to add insult to the injury my distributor doesn't even have them yet!)

Are you sure you didn't already open them and now you are just asking for permission to post them? You might need to see what is up with new forums for the Season 2 cards, I guess you could post them all in threads to be moved later?
I can't see any harm in opening them for yourself. Also, I can't see that you would have any consequence in posting them. I am not even sure what that question means unless you have some sort of written agreement with Mind Candy.
Keep in mind, I am a strong advocate of sharing information, so I favor opening them and posting the cards. People have been waiting months for this, so, if it were me, I would go for it.

Trust me, my distributor will not ship the boxes until the day before the release date...
Although i suppose it keeps the suspense going, besides, theres not much point in having a release date then not sticking to it!

From the vote tallies so far, it seems my initial instinct is correct and to wait until other folks get them. To be honest, I am not really even that tempted, because I am busy with work for the next week anyway and couldn't give them the attention I will come the official start of the season.

The vote seems pretty close to me, but I think you should do what you like with the cards. If you prefer to wait, that is great. Thanks for offering to let us see the cards early. If you decide to open them, that is great too.
I'm not sure that the release date is of some magical importance in the new stories to be told. None of the other release dates were important in the story. Adrian mentioned how difficult it is to combine release dates and story. I thought they picked March 1 just because it is a good day to start selling the cards.
But, do what you want - they are your cards.

I was never going to post the actual cards. If I did anything, it would have been a list of the card names by color, and a distribution of blacks/silvers per box.

It might sound trivial but players want the chance of a first solve, or top ten. Yep, it does sound trivial, but everybody likes recognition in one form or another. Hopefully Mindcandy have been savvy enough to ensure no solve codes can be entered until 1st March. If so then I see no problem in opening & posting cards. We're all here because we just like puzzles.

This is entirely true. I have some S2 cards from Hamleys, aswell as the Hamleys cards themselves, and none of them are recognised by the site at the moment. I was told none could be solved until March 1st.
Still, I wouldn't open the packs if I were you. It's just courtesy not to spoil MC's work and their release date.

To me, the only gray area exists if you open them. That might be a good thing, a bad thing, or a neutral thing.
However, if you refrain from opening them, then it's fairly clear that you're not doing a bad thing.
So, since it's clearly not a bad thing to hold off, holding off is the safest solution. No risks, no hurt feelings, etc., etc.
We can wait.

Ah sorry I misunderstood.
Edit to add:
I totally forgot about getting first solves or one of the top ten solves as an issue for players. I don't think that is a trivial concern, I think that is an important concern. I forgot about it as I was never close to getting a first solve - being terrible at puzzles - it just isn't something I think about. But I completely understand the desire to be one of the first few people who solves a puzzle. And I can see that if the cards are posted early, then it might affect who solves what first.
