San Francisco to walk the Marathon for the Leukemia Society
October 21 2007

I loved San Francisco. And, I used to run marathons before accident and injury and long rehab kept me from competing. But I see that I can walk this marathon. Or, should I say, I see that it is possible for one to walk this marathon- we'll have to see if "I" can do it.

Long story shorter - I am going to do this.

So that means I will be in SF the weekend of October 21st. I will probably be there longer than the weekend as I want to do and see some things I wasn't able to during ARGFest.

I'm telling all the locals now, I will need as much moral support as possible, as well as people to hang out with. I miss you guys that are so far away from here! Why doesn't everyone just move to the NYC area?

Maybe, if we get ambitious, we can plan a mini-ARGfest get together.

I think everyone should move to Canada Cool

I'd love to visit SF again, but it's just so costly... I hope you do well with your walk though!

I'm so up for a TO argfest =)

Quick update: I just started trainingon Saturday. The fundraising aspect of Team in Training is to raise money for research for Lymphoma and other blood diseases.

Big news: Maureen McHugh - writer of Science Fiction and a writer on the 42 entertainment game Last Call Poker agreed to be my "honored patient." Maureen is in remission from non-Hodgkins Lymphoma. Her blog called No Feeling of Falling talks about her life and illness. I'm not sure exactly what honored patients do, but I knowing someone who has had to fight this illness inspires me. The fact that she writes things I love, works with people I care about and contributes to my favorite genre, makes in mean even more.

EGo, Bagsbee and I got to meet her when she was in New York as a nominee for the Story Prize for her book of short stories called "Mothers and Other Monsters." A great book, by the way. We went to see her at the awards ceremony. She was telling her other fans and publishers that she know us from the internet. They didn't quite understand. She met Bagsbee and I for lunch the next day and we talked for a long time.

I'm sorry she has this illness. I know that the research has contributed to improving the treatment. I feel quite honored to be able to say she is my inspiration and honored patient for this walk.

Funny how things work in the ARG world. I only went to San Francisco because of ARGFest. Once I got there I fell in love with the city and the ARG players and wanted to return. I saw my chance to get in shape and return to SF by doing the walk. It was only today that I remembered that Maureen had non-Hodgkin's lymphoma. Maybe other communities are the same way. I make more connections in the ARG community than in others that I belong to, I think it is because we have to work closely together so we make more connections.
