"Prophet" Rabbithole on /x/? I was browsing 4chan's paranormal board and an odd thread showed up. I tried the search function and found nothing, so here's the link.
No idea what this is yet, but it smells ARGish.

The thread won't be around forever, so catch it while it lasts!
EDIT: a transcription of the thread:

He posted two pictures as well. Too small to be stegged, I think. I've hosted them on my photobucket:

I tried checking the barcode and nothing is coming up (unless it's some different form of barcode, but I checked EAN-13, UPS-A, ISBN, and EAN-8). My guess is that there's nothing in actual barcode.
EDIT: I don't think it could be stegged at all, since 4chan renames the file.

I think it is code 39 barcode. If so, I think it just says PROPHET. I didn't check the whole thing cause I don't have the time. gotta run, take care of real life.

Yep, it is code 39. I checked it (need the practice, lol) and it does just spell out PROPHET.
The other image - from the context of the text in it, I figured it was a firefly, but it's not. There's another type of bioluminescent fly called fungus gnats (eww), but they look even less like this pic, which is more like a moth or butterfly. I googled firefly + prophet combinations but didn't get anywhere. Same with the text underneath. Oh well.

Found something interesting...
When I googled the words in the picture it showed an old thread on 4chan.. when I googled the words on their it came up with a ton of books with the same passage in it... not sure if it means anything..
"
When all other light has failed you, I shall be your guide through the darkness. ...
(Googled)
the conditions are the same for all; and, this being so, no one has any
Passage I found..
For in the first place, as each gives himself absolutely, the conditions are the same for all; and, this being so, no one has any interest inmaking them burdensome to others.
Its in regards to a western philosphy called the Social Compact...

hey yall, jumpin on board here. hope yall don't mind.
there's more.
yeah, apparently part of the quote from the picture of the insect has to do with the philosophy of someone named Rousseau. Rudyard Kipling also wrote a poem talking about how he'd guide you if there was no light or w/e, but I was too lazy to read the poem.
maybe continual googling will yield more of the phrase
edit: did some more googling and a famous false prophet is John Leyden
and then my brain shuts off from there.
fixed super long url ~ varin

I remember Rousseau! Haha. He was a really influential French philosopher during the French Revolution times. He was one of the big pushers of the Social Contract, which stated that people living in society together can't exploit others in the society. One must support his fellow man and whatnot. It was very unitarian, and as I remember, pretty socialist.
I'm excited to see how this pans out if French philosophers are already involved. Haha.

Eegleburger and natas, can you please edit your google urls (or use tinyurl) so they don't stretch the page out so wide? (If you don't, kona may do it for you, but you may get points for saving her the trouble. )
