Takin' a crack at it...

Ok, I'm finally looking at this card since I've solved all my others. Well, except 13th Labour, but we won't go there. Mad

I've looked over what everyone has done here, on Unfiction, and Perplexorum and decided to take a different approach. Seems efforts with ciphers, codes, and the like haven't gotten anywhere. I really think there is a biologic angle to this card, so I read about ligands and the biochemistry. Ligands bind to proteins, so I tried to find a database where I could find out what proteins these ligands bind to. I eventually used http://www.bindingmoad.org/moad/search.do.

On this site you can plug in a ligand and get a list of proteins that is binds to. What's better is that it also links the protein to a lifeform, and has links to taxonomy sites. Most of the ligands on the card are found, in fact some link to multiple lifeforms. I really feel like this is getting somewhere, but I haven't found any patterns so far. I've looked at names of the lifeforms and what they are. I've attached an Excel sheet with the species names and common names of what I found.

I'm going to start looking at shared proteins and other items, but I hope someone out there has time to look at this too. This is one tough nut to crack and there is a lot of information here.

i had one idea, which i haven't fully explored yet, but you know how gel electrophoresis sorts DNA into 3 groups...

i thought than maybe we are looking at the card sideways, and the top row isn't BR ALF BMZ, but is instead one of the two sides...

if the things in the grid reference to different living things, then maybe the electrophoresis comes from measuring the lengths of DNA in the creatures so the ones on the top side (from above idea) are things with shortest DNA and the last row, the longest...

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
Might be a red herring, but I did notice that the malus domesticus, or apple, is at the center of the chart in AAD. All I got from that was some kind of biblical connections with the card. I might see if I can figure something out on that.

Updated spreadsheet

Here's an updated spreadsheet. I've managed to fill everything out, and added tables listing proteins the ligands can bind to and how many proteins a ligand can bind to. I've been using a combination of the www.ebi.ac.uk and bindingmoad.org sites, along with the PDB protein database site.

I have yet to find any patterns, but here are some things I noticed:
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
* Apple is the only plant
* DNA and RNA appear as synthetics, which doesn't seem like a coincidence. I need to make sure what I found here is right
* Bacteria can be gram positive or negative. Useful?

And to round out my rambling, some ideas I've had:
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
* Use protein synthesis or something on this somehow
* Look at taxonomy again. The card background really makes me think of some kind of web of life or connections between lifeforms.
* Something with the six animals on the card and proteins.

This card is really reminding me why I hate biochemistry. It makes my head throb.

I haven't actually looked into electrophoresis with DNA yet. I looked at it for proteins, which didn't seem to help much. Interesting idea, I'll have to check it out.

You know, I noticed that the apple was the only plant, and had some thoughts along the same lines, but never paid attention to the location. It does seem odd and out of place.

if it has anything to do with the bible, then the garden of eden is the story you want...

however, since apple is the only plant, maybe there is more of a connection to the SNAKE which offered Eve the fruit...

does anyone else think that, or am i just going off on a tangent here?

ANYWAY... i'm gonna do some research into this AAD for you...

just wondering...

is it just mine, or does everyone's card have a line of weird print across through 6CL and 144?

it's like a different type of printing...

Mine has it too, but I think it's just a printing error that shows up on silvers. I'd need to check, but I think some of my other silvers (from Season 1 too) have it as well.

i had a look at the periodic table, and the atoms which the molecules on the sheet are made from are all non metals, except aluminum and zinc...

and in alphabetical order of their names, aluminum is first, and zinc last...

i wondered if anyone had any thoughts on this? Bang Head

i have updated the old one with the addition of a frequency graph, i thought that maybe it was a still from the equalizer (wavy up and down bar thing off stereos) off a song we should know...

i also tried:

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
42, forty-two, and flora... (the 42, and forty-two are the meaning of life, the universe, and everything from The Hitch Hiker's Guide To The Galaxy)

but alas; to no avail...

i just used my three goes, so if anyone is willing to try these for me, I'd be really grateful: carnivore, omnivore, herbivore...
