Iris receives stange phone call about the WAND Dear Pam,
I was just awoken from a very odd dream about the graffiti by an even
stranger phone call! I rolled myself over to the phone and picked it up,
thinking it was Phyllis calling to say that the walls had begun to bleed once
again. It took me a moment to realize that the voice was speaking and yet another moment to grab a pencil and paper, but I think I got it all and am going to attempt to give you a fair accounting of what she said, though as the call was not very clear, I fear I may have missed or perhaps wrote down incorrect words.
The caller was a girl, and her voice sounded unnatural. She said "We
are (unintelligible) out of time. The forces of Avalon and Analog are both
(unintelligible) and growing desperate. He must find the wand before
the way can be found."
I am not sure if she indeed said Avalon and Analog. I wrote them down
phonetically, so I could have the wrong spelling.
I do not know what this means. It makes no sense to me. Who needs to
find a way? I wonder if she means the entities in Phyllis's house.
Iris

Suggestion: There's no good place to put this, so I'll add it here -
I think we need to point Iris towards the hypnosis session that Kendra had recorded. Perhaps she can help us understand it better.
Unfortunately, as I went back looking for it, I couldn't find it at the Klepsydra web site.
1) Anyone still got a copy?
2) Anyone who has made contact with Iris willing to get it to her somehow?
I could ask Kendra about sending it to Iris, but I think that's backwards.

I sent all of that out earlier after I found out she had that sensitive recording equipment and barbarellany suggested I send the music from Brucies site

Something that is analogous is similar to something else. So is Analog the flip side of Avalon?

So which ones are the Guides, or the DEGs, or...

I think the guides are Avalon and the DEGs are Analogue.

Ok here goes.
This paragraph came from Phyllis's recounting of her trip to the ashram.
Wes stepped away from us toward the strange one who had spoken and said with a kind of quiet resignation, "It is true, then." And the strange one replied, "It is not your time yet, old man. Though once you served our enemies, you may yet be of some use to us. Go, and take these fools, and this message with you:We are the question and the answer, the disease as well as the cure. The secrets of the past joined to the wonders of the future. The servants of those above. As the old beliefs and ways
fade away, we are the inheritors of the numinous. Soon, those who have learned what they should not, will find what price that they must pay. The servants and followers of Avalon have no power here.Like the Nine, they shall lose their way and their power. You and your allies are but pawns on a board you cannot even see. The knowledge and power are the rightful reward of those who ascend. Now leave. There is nothing here for you."
Then there is this connection from Sarah's notes as retold by Phyllis to Enaxor.
Dear Roxanne,
You wrote:
"The "castle tower" symbol you described in the painting doesn't mean anything to me, but for some reason makes me think of King Arthur, Camelot, Avalon, Merlin, you know, the knights of the round table kind of things." Well, of course! I had forgotten Sarah Wyatt's notes that I found in the trunk! I believe she wrote about a dream or vision she had? There was a kingly figure with banners behind him. One banner had a six-fingered hand on it and the other had a castle on it. And he cried, Avalon! Oh, I wish I had made copies of those notes before giving them to Mrs. Dobbs for the auction.
And we know that six fingers is synonymous with the guides.
That leaves the DEGs and Analogue.

Wow, I'm on a roll this morning...
Mirrors. Reflections. Two sides of the same coin. What if the guides and DEG's are the mirror universe equivalents of one another. Just look for goatees and bad attitudes and you'll know which is which (sorry bad Star Trek joke).
Thoughts?

I'll be looking for the ones that are black on the left side of their face and white on the right side of their face. Anyone can tell that they're different !

hey, two sides of the same coin?? that reminds me of two of the real world objects that were mailed out (from Meaghan's box).
the clay coin, and then the foil impression of the same coin.

I've been reading Stephenson's "Cryptonomicon." (Wish I'd read it before the game started. I might have been more help on the puzzle codes if I had.) About page 802 in the paperback edition, Enoch Root goes on a riff about Athena and it got me thinking about the owl coin. The owl side is what has been shown repeatedly but the Athena side, the hidden side, might matter more in this story. Root defines Athena as representing technology. We've been looking at Avalon and Analogue as rival factions of science and religion/myth. But, we could be more accurately be thinking about the Guides and the Seven as technology and mythology and their current conflict would not be so much a war as the shake-up that occurs with a merger. Wes said that neither side was good or bad, that it was more complicated than that. So, I'm thinking that the seemingly opposed forces are actually united in their desires to keep secrets and in their efforts to keep humanity/us in the dark, they are actually working together and using the characters like pawns to achieve their goals.

I just picked up Cryptowhatever too! Hoping I can make more headway into it this week. only about 1/5 through it thus far. Reminds me of Pynchon.
