Prior Knowledge Needed? moved to questions/meta - MikeyJ Hey guys,
I never did play PXC season 1, and I was wondering something: In order to play Perplex City Stories, will I need to have prior knowledge of the story in season 1, or will it primarily be a stand alone game? The reason I ask is because there is so much story from season 1 to go through and I hate to go through reams of info, only to find out that it is not really all that related to Perplex City Stories. Although, I can go through the podcasts and overviews if I need to do that.

Don't think there's been any announcements either way, but I don't think it'd hurt to know the general gist of the city, like knowing things about the Academy, the city council, corporations, etc.
The info from the "map" from Season 1's probably a good primer.

I think they're well aware that there will be a whole bunch of new people, and will tailor things accordingly, so I doubt a vast in-depth knowledge will be required to start off with. But it can't hurt to do a bit of homework before things kick off.
I'd start with the podcasts, and then catch up on background for the major people/places/events from the wiki, which can be found at perplexcitywiki.com . As mentioned, the map at perplexcitymap.com will help you learn where things are and gives a bit of info about the main places in the city.
Apart from that, browse through the various forums, join in a few chats and forum threads to get to know people, and see how you go.
Stick with us, kid, and we'll all manage to get through it together. Eventually!

Generally any backround knowledge will apear in any relevent story threads as the story progresses, anything you aren't so sure about the wiki is probably the best place to go.

the back story may be useful but i don't get all of it and i played season 1 for all almost it life span. the good news is that that it's all backed up on the wiki so if you need to know soming if you need to know it.
but you going need the cards this time to under stand the stroy there so must going backs of them. that i think will tie into the plot.

Glad it's not just me - what with trying to not go bankrupt and writing final dissertations for uni it is hard to catch up with everything that has gone on - I am going to have to figure out some kind of action plan to go through things - Character profiles etc I figured might be quite useful to know about first so I was considering making my own from info I find - I know they are alreayd out there but it helps me to get things in my head better if I write things out myself!
Is there somewhere where we can find out the actual plot storyline of the first season from the off as well as that might be quite useful to figure out where things fit in...

I'm working on something nice and helpful. Until it's ready, might I direct you to the Story So fFar , which is the official running synopsis of everything to date. On the left hand Sidebar is a listing of "episodes", which describe all the key moments and elements, with ample links to points all over. Of course there's the wiki, which is a terrific way to get encyclopedic information about the world (but of course, may not be the best way to dive in and start reading, simply because it's so non-linear) Happily, it's searchable

You guys are great! The tips here should really help to get me on track and to not be so overwhelmed by all the stuff I need to go through. I really hope to be a help to all of us here once I learn the ropes. Also, being a newbie to ARGs, I just want to say that you guys, as well as the other guys in the forums, have really helped to make me feel welcome, and not feel like "just some guy" that wandered in one day and decided to be a part of all this, and for that you have my gratitude.
Also, thanks mikeyJ for moving this post to the proper forum. I was searching for this exact forum, but looked right over it.

I am in the same position of not having played Season 1. I found the link on Perplex City Stories to an overview of Season 1 very helpful. I also assumed that as that is an official retrospective, they will have included everything we need for Season 2 (maybe... )

We were all at one point some one how walked in of the street and said that looks like fun I'll have that. It kind of how you find new ARG to play. So there no point in poking new players and calling them NOOB'SS just because they ask for help when they start off. they where once you

Seriously, I personally hold the unfiction record for most noob mistakes by any one player. That record will probably never be topped, so don't worry about being new.

There also appears to be a trend to make the game more episodic and accessible for players, so I doubt much background information will be needed for season 2.
