Strategy for ARGs?

Hello, I'm a new player to ARGS Very Happy . I was introduced to the genre like a year or so ago when I somehow found Perplex City, not quite sure how. I enjoyed the concept, but started a little too late to ever figure out what was going on and sort of let it pass. But I'm back now, looking to play.

Anyways, I'm just curious: What are your strategies when playing an ARG? What are the first things you look for when you're trying to move on and find that next place or that next piece of vital information? I'm just curious since there's one or two upcoming ones that I think I might try with my cousin and it'd be nice to know how the experienced players approach puzzles.

I personally try to have fun

when I'm playing I'm chatting it up with the other players ... digging into puzzles and often confused though sometimes they're more up my alley than other players. It's quite difficult to have any particular strategy though as each game is going to be so varied and the puzzles so intricate.

I'd say that some of the best things to do is to pay attention to what's happening... really pay attention, and if nobody is keeping a running account of what's happened - there's a great way of contributing to the game from a player aspect, and catching stuff that may not have been seen before.

Watch and learn as other people solve stuff that you think is impossible, I'm still confused on some of the solves from MHC, but I understand the "concept" ... just wasn't able to put it to practice lol. Excell at what you know and don't feel bad if you don't kow much... most of us don't and a slim few really know an extraordinary amount of what's happening.

Play play play and spread the word Very Happy The more people playing a game... assisting with trying to catch a solve (and sharing with the public)... the better the odds of fully understanding the game (if it is well written and developed)... the better the odds of more good/great developers coming and entertaining us... and the better the odds of becoming addicted to the community of UnFiction. Wink
