This looks like it will be really fun. I followed along with the forums for the Vanishing Point game but never really thought to contribute since I came into it kind of late but I'm looking forward to this one. As an interesting side note, I go to college in boulder, co and got trapped in the denver airport for that very blizzard trying to get home...

The whois data says spy.co.uk was registered back in 1996 (or earlier), so I think this is just an intriguing coincidence. Interesting find, though.

I desperately hope this impending doomsday scenario will in fact not
play out. If it does, however, we need to be prepared.

what are some of the possibilities that could be "gamed out"
to attempt to prepare.....

keeping in mind Mother Nature bats last......

We've hit the "RESET" button on our planetary life support system and we don't have a Plan "B".........

Maybe this is OT and I'm a terrible threadjacker, (If I was an SF writer I would be Kurt Vonnegut by the way (I think I'd rather be Ray Bradbury), which should never be an aside...a moments silence please)

But I was watching TV this morning hoping that Lorraine Kelly's dulcet tones would inspire me to finish my toast and head into work, when an advert came on that I thought was going to turn out to be WWO on the telly and got that tingly feeling in my tummy that you get when "made up" things are in real life. It turned out to be weird propaganda from Shell for their new drill-bit which is like a bendy straw, apparently (the ad-execs using what someone I really like would call "patro-powers").

The advert is currently on the front page of their site (erm...here) and I particularly like the way that they get the geologist's son to question his Dad's job, as obviously the green lobby is like a naive-child to be patronised. Hmmmm.

This looks interesting. I'll definitely join in.

I'll be using my shiny new VOX (http://msduck.vox.com/) for ingame things. I do need to mention that I will be posting my writings like I originally intended to so... please be careful when you read them, they may squick/set you off.

Just thought i'd give a heads up. Smile

EDIT: Um, if nobody has any objections i'll be adding the VOXes of the people who posted them.

Photos! And Analysis!

From the livejournal account, pachinko posted a photobucket with 19 pictures. The pictures are numbered 1-22, with three pictures missing (removed?) from the site. The link is here: http://s177.photobucket.com/albums/w222/Iniscool/?action=view&current=22-norvegicus.jpg

And here are my notes on them:

01: ksa-fracflow.jpg pipe system of some sort
02: iran-rigrecov.jpg man doing some sort of rig recovery?
03: opr-juyin.jpg picture of a man, clear view of a city street in the background
04: opr-sinoil.jpg young woman standing in front of a gate looking over a park. actually, that's NYC. I recognize the gates from Central Park (I remember, I was only dating my wife then, and we walked through the gates that Valentine's Day - http://www.christojeanneclaude.net/tg.html)
05: opr-tour.jpg apparently Nico?
06: opr-conf.jpg building (that looks so familiar to me, i just can't place it)
07: wtex-pipe.jpg truck and a pipe
08: wtex-anna.jpg woman standing in a field. oil rigger in background.
09: alb-jack3.jpg night scene, some kind of machinary
10: co-jack4a.jpg helicoptor
11: irantest.jpg two people covered with blanket/rugs
12: us-dec06.jpg picture from inside airplane. assumedly taken December 06.
13:
14: cotest.jpg airport picture. probably from the Denver trip?
15: cotest-bliz.jpg blizard, car stuck in the snow
16: cotest-inn.jpg an inn and cars coated by snow
17: nwt-hup.jpg a giant piece of machinery in the snow
18:
19: vib-pres.jpg a vibration recorder maybe? some instrument.
20: mtg-granda.jpg a map
21:
22: norvegicus.jpg apparently a person dressed as a norwegian rat. i can't read the language in the banner.

KSA (Saudia Arabia) is the owner of the the world's largest oil reserves. We rely on them heavily for our oil. Iran is obv. Iran. Not sure about OPR, but the photo set seems to be in NYC. Wtex is World Trade Exchange. alb might be Albany.

Something to think about: the missing numbers are 13, 18 and 21.

I thought it was a crane at first but it looks like part of an oil rig (?)

They seem to be about to detonate something.

I'm pretty sure it's Chinese (not sure which), I have a phrase book around here somewhere. I may be able to find something.

EDIT: After looking through, I think it may be Cantonese (if it is Chinese). I don't have anything for that though. Sry.

REVENGE OF THE EDIT: Working with lubbarlubab we have found this: http://wwo-mordy.livejournal.com/970.html?mode=reply

And come to the conclusion that pic 13 probably involves planes/airports, 18 with oil works and 21 with the map and rat. Razz

also, my aim is msduckenstein for those that are interested.

Ok I think I just added a bunch of you to my Vox (WolfHawk) and Live Journal (mistralwind76) things. I'm still pretty clueless about them, though, so if I didn't get you feel free to add me.

Where are you guys getting the Sci-Fi author alter ego info?

I love how the eight(/ten) seem like real people. Anywho, do you reckon we ought to try to figure out who's in that picture?

EDIT: Trout myself. You guys were just talking about this. Rolling Eyes

Dating the Photos

I suspect these photos (at least the NYC pictures) are two years old. Since the gates shown in the background of 04-opr-sinoil.jpg went down in 2005. We might be dealing with a large range of dates.

Localboy seems to be hanging around a lot, i'm not sure he's contacting the others...

Has anyone made actual contact with him?

Also, does anyone know where that map is from?
