Hello Nico Again...

"I trust Grace is well... And her Mom... I'm a little jealous of you..."

SO do you think that Grace might be the key to this somehow? That she possesses something? or IS something? Is Nico warning Sharon that the "bad people" are looking for her?

I might make an mp3 of the <slavic>(?) audio section of the video. Then just email to language folks.

I don't know if I already mentioned this...but I emailed Every Sunday through youtube..the woman who posted the youtube video on Nico.
Today I got this short response:

everySunday wrote:

> > Is Nico in trouble? ...I will tell him to come home for you if i find him.

Conclusion, do we know where Nico is? What should I do next?

Also, I am still waiting for an email from the Kyrgyzstan Embassy on the translation, but the may not respond at all.

How are we going to translate the video?

Mp3 of Nico Message

Stripped out just the <slavic> component of the message. You can snag it off my LJ. Download once, distribute many please, my bandwidth is limited and I'd hate to have to take it down prematurely.

Kyrgyzstani Baseball and my turkish roommate...

So my roommates downstairs are from Turkey, and one also spent time living in Albania. They confirmer it's not Turkish, not Russian, not Albanian. But definitely slavic. So I'm betting it is kyrgyz, especially given that everySunday, Novelle Wornyuk, is from Kyrgyzstan. So I found the blog of a kyrgyzstani cardinals fan, sent him the audio, and asked him to translate for some baseball cards or a hat or something. If he does it, I'll send it to him. Seems like a fair trade.

Apparently not Kyrgyz

I'm not a native speaker of Kyrgyz. And you're right, it's hard to
find native speakers who have internet access. I can't even think of
any of my Kyrgyz friends who would be able to access this very well.
I'm sorry I can't be more help.

That was definitely not Kyrgyz. If anything, I caught some Russian
words (thousand).

mpathy has a new away message:

Quote:
WTH?? Have you seen the Nico video? Advice, please! Leave it here while I'm at work!

THEORY!:
nico defected from some foreign operatives to the United States. they let him go at the time and didn't pursue him because he wasn't important enough to risk international incident. this foreign power wants nico to "come home" to their own government now that he knows something of value (regarding the oil situation).

what do you guys think?

This may not help at all, but my best friend is Bosnian and the language on the Nico video sounds vaguely like the Bosnian language. Bosnian is a Slavic language, so I guess that would reinforce the theory that the audio on the video is some type of Slavic language.

I seriously doubt that it is Bosnian, but I'll have my friend listen to the audio - in any case, maybe she'll be able to shed a bit more light on it.

I doubt it's Bosnian. My roommate downstairs emigrated to Turkey out of Bosnia when the conflict started. She'd recognize Bosnian for sure.

I knew chances were slim it was Bosnian, but I thought maybe she would recognize what dialect it was. If your friend couldn't, however, I doubt mine could.

I guess I'll share my thoughts:
She seems to speak a variant on Russian - maybe Belarusian (a random guess).
Unfortunately I do not speak any slavic language, therefore all I can do is guess upon similarities I believe having found.
Does anyone speak Belarusian to prove me (or prove me wrong)?

Wayfarer Map

I've added the locations of 4 characters as waypoints on the map.

Chuckles' soybeans - Beeville, TX
mPathytest - south New Jersey
Gracesmom - NH
Illiana - nw Indiana

what other characters have known locations? Also, make sure you're adding yourself as a person, not a waypoint.

translation

I have some past connections to the University of Illinois' Slavic and Eastern European Library. I've emailed a person there to see if she can help. I'll let you know what she finds.

Bulgarian

I talked to a professor at Berkeley, and she says that the language is Bulgarian. She's forwarding the email to a native speaker to hopefully translate.
