[PUZZLE] Arithmetic Drawings

In several of our mailings, there have been similar drawings. Each is a set of four objects, with an arithmetic sign in each object:

Re: [tCotSA][PUZZLE] Arithmetic Drawings

So the order on the last puzzle was confirmed: X + / -

That said, let's take a crack at the first three, as they seem to provide clues to other puzzles (well, maybe).

Here are my guesses.

Puzzle 1:
Bottle (or Wine)
Arachnid
Spoon
Hand

Puzzle 2:
Tree
Apple
Glasses
Snake

Puzzle 3:
Turtle
Owl
Lemon
Domino

Anyone else want to try?

I get. . .

Bottle
Octapus
Spoon
Hand
(Bosh, unlikely but it does seem like tCotSA's style; and I really like the last definition.)

I get the same as Lovek for 2 & 3.

I have a pic of all four (enlarged) if it helps anyone, they're numbered in the order we received them.

The arithmetic symbols must have some meaning though, no?

I can think of several possibilities for #4:

Grapes
Oregon
Lemon (or Lime)
Die

Bunch
O
L
D

G
O
L
F
our

and

Cookie
Abyss
Triangle
Steer

or

Bite
A
T
S

No clue what the significance of the mathematical symbols is, though. Confused

Just looking at this from a different perspective, here are the pictures grouped by arthmetic symbol, rather than the group of 4 they belong to. (Ordered by their respective grouping)

X
BOTTLE
TREE
TURTLE
GRAPES
COOKIE(?)

+
SPIDER/INSECT/BUG
APPLE
OWL
ORGEON
ICICLE(?)

-
HAND
SNAKE
DOMINO
DIE
BISON/BULL/YAK

./.
SPOON
GLASSES
LEMON
LEMON
TRIANGLE/PYRAMID

Interesting to note that lemon shows up twice

The last word is CITY, of course, with Icicle and Yak.

So, the last three words are TOLD GOLD CITY. "Gold City" sounds like El Dorado to me, although it also appears to be a gospel quartet. I'm not too sure about the first two: for one thing that seems very clearly to be an eel, not a snake.

Edit: WISH TALE, with Wine, Insect, and Lens. So almost certainly El Dorado.

Edit 2: Hmm, I noticed I've been trouted on the GOLD CITY part, and also it must be arachnid, since insects specifically have six legs. Wash tale?

I think a "wish tale" is generally just that...involving a wish from a genie, monkey's paw, that kind of thing. Is there one involving El Dorado?

Or did tCotSA just find "wish tale" as a synonym for "myth" while they were thumbing through the thesaurus?

Actually, "wash tale" makes better sense here, because the legend is that the king of El Dorado would cover himself in gold dust and then wash it off in a lake. Don't know how that'll lead us to our contact, though...

The myth of King Midas is a gold-related wish tale and there's a wash involved too ("He prayed to Dionysus, begging to be delivered from starvation. Dionysus heard and consented; he told Midas to wash in the river Pactolus").

Maybe the city of Pessinus is the answer?

By the way, maybe the words are out of order. "Told gold city wash tale" would give us Juan Rodriguez Freyle, who wrote 'El Carnero' (The Sheep).

There's an instance of the arithmetic drawing in Deus City as well...only no drawings to go along with it.

Any puzzles done by the PM "Hank Eggrem" (an anagram for his real name) have the following picture next to it.

Sorry, no further news on what it might spell. However, it brings up the ugly proposition that we might be dealing with another anagram. As if this weren't hard enough as is.

So I tried eldordowatcher with a message alsomst exactly like what I sent Listen2reason. The reply
Quote:
eldoradowatcher says: Welcome to the interface. It is always wonderful to have new people in here. I certainly hope I can be a friend to you if our goals overlap. I can't say I am familiar with the Three Seven you speak of, so I am not sure if I am the one you seek.

So far it looks like Listen2Reason is the right contact
