[HS] Blog Updates

Mabel just updated her blog. More info on Scott, but also photos of what I believe to be pages from her father's journal from the early '90s, when he won the mayorship from Baron. On the second page, there were a list of 9 map coordinates.

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
34 38 N, 120 27 W - Lompoc, CA
43 06 N, 107 32 W - Utica, NY
40 30 N, 107 32 W - Craig, Co
41 05 N, 80 38 W - Kankakee, IL
41 05 N, 80 38 W - Younstown, OH
46 54 N, 98 42 W - Jamestown, ND
34 46 N, 96 40 W - Ada, OK
48 56 N, 57 56 W - Corner Brook, Newfoundland, CA
17 59 N, 76 48 W - Kingstown, Jamaica

I plotted out the coordinates here.

Now, how does this, along with the rest of the journal entry, help us find the chip? Where does "north east" come into play?

Transcripts from Journal pages....

Feb 5, 1992

Today I was witness to a revelation. All the questions I've had over the last few months, all theose unlikely games that fell in my favor and all the grief that it caused me and all the times I wondered why there was no place for one such as I. Today I found my answer as I sat across from Robert Baron in his town of broken dreams.

I hardly remember the hands we played and the bets made, but I will never forget his snake smile when I made the bet. I had made a habit of waking the line, not sparing a glance for the poor and broken I passed by, but I could not leave Parare in the hands of a man like Robert Baron. One of us would walk out of the game the mayor and one would leave for a full year. He agreed, that smile on his face, and I forced myself to laugh even though my insides were frozen like a river. The stakes were as high as they could get.

And then, in the last hand, before we revealed our cards, I thought back over my incredable [sic] streak of luck over the past few months. I traveled from town to town winning more than losing always making enough money to make me comfortable...and enough that people thougth I was a cheat and chased me out of town. I always found myself chased north east, always north and east, until I found myself stranded in Parare.

I always suspected something unusual was happening, but I knew for sure as Robert revealed a low straight flush, diamonds. His smile could not have been wider...until I revealed my royal flush. I felt something as the ace dropped on the table. My lucky chip felt hot in my hand.

And just like that, I became mayor of Parare, and the man who owns a lucky poker chip. But now, looking at this town that I need to rebuild, I wonder if it is luck I was witness to...or destiny. Does this chip mean more than a good hand of poker?

I suppose I will have to wait and see.

Below, he wrote the 9 map coordinates.

Sorry April you made a couple of errors transcribing the coords. The towns were correct though. No need for a map, the solve is the first letter of each town

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
34 38 N, 120 27 W - Lompoc
43 06 N, 75 13 W - Utica
40 30 N, 107 32 W - Craig
41 07 N, 87 51 W - Kankankee
41 05 N, 80 38 W - Younstown
46 57 N, 98 42 W - Jamestown
34 46 N, 96 40 W - Ada
48 56 N, 57 56 W - Corner Brook
17 59 N, 76 48 W - Kinsgton

The first letters give us Lucky Jack, and if you've been reading your Parare history you'll know it points us to the Lucky Jack room at the Three Oaks.

Well, that explains the end of Conelrad's podcast, although it obviously wasn't happening at the same time Scott got "stuck".

Perhaps it's a proximity thing.

Doh, didn't even click to that!

My only thought so far is we're looking for the name of a hand of cards, something around order out of chaos... Confused

True, but then, Mabel should have been affected. And Conelrad had to have been up in his location for a fair amount of time before broadcasting, so it's not like he would have walked over to that area and suddenly got stuck in the "loop".

Unless, somehow, Scott snapped out of it and walked over and whatever it was "jumped"?

I wonder if the "magic" of the chip is that it allows you to go back a few seconds in time? would be a great way to win at poker!

I didn't get that from Mr. Clarkson's journal, though...it sounded like it just felt hot...and then the "right" cards were dealt. However, that really does make sense.

Mabel was saying it was flipping in the air & changing color, I think the flip makes time "rewind"
