Front

THE CAT HERDERS OF HARBIN HAVE A LONG TRADITION OF ANIMAL HUSBANDRY. BUT EVERY YEAR, THEY SUFFER A CERTAIN AMOUNT OF NATURAL WASTAGE AS CATS STRAY FROM THE FOLD. OVER THE CENTURIES, THESE MATHEMATICALLY MINDED HERDERS HAVE CALCULATED THE MINIMUM SIZE FOR A PROFITABLE HERD.

SEE IF YOU CAN FIGURE IT OUT FROM THIS TRADITIONAL HERDERS' SONG:

In Harbin, the cats, I declare,
They numbered one third of a square.
If a quarter then strayed,
Still a cube will have stayed.
How many, at least, must be there?
(O, how many, at least, must be there?)

You've made a minor typo in the card title - it should read "Cats of Harbin", and not Harbain Wink

East

Travelling east from the Stone Sleeper Crossroads, it is less than twenty miles to Perplex City, making the stones a popular picnic-spot-cum-talking-point for day-trippers.

Wendy Maker had visited the spot many times and when she was looking for a new field of study to propose to the funding board of the Perplex City Ancient Sites of Mysterious Interest Foundation, she decided to take a chance. Instead of offering yet another research project into the Maraboria Caves or the Horizontal Falls, she proposed a small scale project investigating the myths surrounding the Stone Sleeper of the Stone Sleeper Crossroads.

She never expected to find, in her preliminary studies, that the scrapings she took from the stones revealed them to be made of a mineral compund that had no match in the geological archives - nor that news of her study would provoke such extreme reactions from the villages close to the site.

The project was put on hold while the concerns of the people of nearby Rempstone and Dee were heard. During the time, Wendy Maker tragically died of what was claimed to be a complication in her undiagnosed Morgan-Hatfield-Blumenthal Syndrome. Her project was indefinately postponed.
