[Grey District] Handyman [Solved]

New area, the Northside Row showed up too. With, of course, a new task.
info for the lazy or not logged in:
Spoiler (Rollover to View):

Handyman

Judging from recently leaked memos, DefenseCorp appears to be ramping up for a large scale demolition and reconstruction project in the Grey District, starting near the docks. I don't need to stress how devastating that could be to our mission. They already have a frightening foothold here, and we can't afford to let them dig in. We are going to need to slow the project down one way or another. Step one is figuring out just exactly what they have in mind. Sanjay Gillpatrick is the head of the DefenseCorp Civil Engineering department. If anyone has info on what is coming down the line, he will.

We have been trailing him for a couple of weeks now, and were able to snag some info. We were able to log into his comm station remotely, and got to his "forgotten password" prompt: the clue for his password is "the brother of Sampson at Queen's" but we don't know what that means. We also used one of our old buzz-copter recon bots with a magflux-optical scope to try and shoot some vid of him entering in his password. Unfortunately, the DefenseCorp EM micro-pulse targeting system noticed our copter and jammed its imaging plates pretty good. We got this one shot just as he was punching in the first letter, but after that it is all just static.

If you think you can figure out his password from what we have here, we will plug in and give it a shot. If you aren't sure though, don't send us in there just to get blocked and raise suspicion.
---
again, I can post image if necessary. It's got diagonal bluish lines and horizontal grey lines in a crisscross pattern, and my limited GIMP skills are, well, gimped. But it looks like he's hitting a key on the first alphanumeric row, most likely RTYUI. And wearing blue latex gloves.

Have at it!

For Sampson at Queen's:

There was a heralded surgeon who went by the name "Sampson" back in the mid 1800's. His full name was Joseph Sampson Gamgee. In 1857 he took the position as surgeon at Queen's Hospital, Birmingham.

From what I can find he had two brothers: Arthur and John Gamgee.

He also had a brother-in-law named Lawley Parker.

So far I've tried:

John
Lawley

Those have not worked. I'm not sure if we need to use First AND Last names, or what.

Thumbnail of untouched image for task:

Edit: I've also tried just Arthur as well seeing as there are articles stating that he actually WAS at Queen's hospital. He helped in one of his brother's surgeries.

Also, I've played with the image in Photoshop a bit. In trying to figure out what letter is being pressed I came to the conclusion that the image needs to be rotated 180 degrees and then flipped horizontally to be in the right orientation. Why? Well, I figure the long key is the keyboard firstly, hence the 180 spin. Then I thought about a few majority factors which ultimately led to me mirroring the image horizontally. #1 Most human beings are right handed. #2 Most public laws state that for safety purposes in an emergency that business or public building doors must swing outward in order to ease congestion in case of having to run out of the building. #3 In addition to those two, most entrances that have keypads, touch-pads, scanners have them placed to the right side of the door.

So assuming those things are correct, our handyman would walk up to the door, enter in his passkey with his right hand, and then grab the door handle with his left to open it yes?

The edited image looks like:

Note: I also inverted the colors so that they look normal.

Edit Again:
I'm confused about why John didn't work. Here's why:
In playing with the threshold values with the inverted image, in making it very dark with high contrast, with the location of the right index finger's home key and the shape of the other letters, it would appear that the "J" key would be the letter being pressed.

So here's another version of the picture with the threshold changed, and the keys labeled with what letters I believe them to be: (Thumbnail again)

After more research and image editing, I've come up on a possible edit to my theory.

The letter that I think could be being pressed is "G", with a possibility of "F".

New Edited Image:

Reason being:
I was looking down at my keyboard and then up at the image in Photoshop and realized, "The letters aren't oriented on the keys the same way!" So with that thought I decided to look up keyboard pictures. Those of you who have Apples will recognize the keyboard now. Why Apple keyboards? Well, Apple keyboards tend to actually be [b]white[b], not black, grey, or the off-white color that the majority of non-Apple keyboards tended to be. ALSO, and this is the main point, Apple keyboard's letters are oriented differently on the keys than non-Apple keyboards. See below images for examples

Apple keyboard:

Windows keyboard:

(Silly Side-note: This keyboard came up on the first page of images and happens to be the same keyboard I've typed all of this stuff out on. :-p )

Anyway, you can see the difference in the printing of the letters on the keys.

So, now it's late and I'm just confusing myself more. Hopefully you guys can help me make some sense of it all.

Just solved this - it's a lot less obscure than it seems.

For anyone just wanting a hint: they've spelt Sampson wrong - it shouldn't have the 'p' - and Unfeltkisss was definitely on the right track in finding the letter.

For anyone just wanting the answer:
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
Goliath - biblical references aside, Samson and Goliath are also twin shipbuilding gantry cranes situated at Queen's Island, Belfast, Northern Ireland.

Again, can someone repost the picture for this puzzle? The imageshack files expired and I'd like to get it up on the wiki.

Thanks ahead of time.

You should be able to attach the file through the UnFiction forums...look down to where it says "Add an Attachment", right above the "submit" button.

Either that, or just link to it, instead of dumping it into the post directly. Not everyone has these nifty new 25" monitors yet, y'know.

Also, it's much easier and causes a lot less clutter if you just edit your own post to add stuff when no one has replied to it yet, instead of replying to yourself.

Just some easy tips on keeping the forum as tidy as possible Cool
